What it does

uListen keeps a catalog of long-form podcast episodes from YouTube, with speaker-labeled transcripts, summaries, and chapter summaries made ahead of time, so Claude can answer from what was actually said. The connector gives Claude four tools, and all four are read-only:

Search podcasts search_podcasts
Finds catalog episodes by topic, person, show, or a quote you half remember, with filters for host, guest, speaker, show, and date. Returns summary points and matching transcript passages with timestamps.
Get transcript excerpt get_transcript_excerpt
Returns the transcript's exact words, labeled by speaker, for up to 30 minutes of one episode at a time.
Get episode analysis get_episode_analysis
Returns uListen's analysis of one catalog episode from its YouTube link or video ID: headline, summary points, key takeaways, and chapter summaries.
List channels list_channels
Lists the shows in the catalog and how many episodes uListen tracks for each, including episodes not yet analyzed.

How it works

Claude decides when to use uListen from what you ask. You can also name it: "Use uListen to find…"
uListen answers from episodes it processed ahead of time. Results link to each episode on YouTube, and transcript passages and chapters link to the moment they start, so you can hear it for yourself.
Summaries and analyses are AI-generated. Excerpts are the transcript's exact words, but transcripts are machine-made: a name, a term, or a speaker label can be off, and a speaker uListen couldn't identify shows as Unattributed. Check the episode when a detail matters.

Add it to Claude

You need a Claude account on any plan, Free included. uListen is a custom connector, added by its URL, and the Free plan allows one of those. Add it on claude.ai or in the Claude desktop app, and it works in Claude on your phone too. Use Add uListen to Claude to skip to step 3 with the name and URL filled in. Claude notes that an external link suggested the connector, so check that both match step 3.

In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors.
Choose "+ Add", then "Add custom connector".
Name it uListen, enter https://mcp.ulisten.ai as the URL, and choose Continue.
Under Authentication, Claude picks "No sign-in" for uListen. Leave it and choose Add.
In a chat, choose the + button, then Connectors, and check that uListen is on.

If your dialog shows the name, URL, and Advanced settings on one screen, fill in the name and URL, leave Advanced settings empty, and choose Add.

On Team and Enterprise plans, an Owner adds uListen for the organization first: in Organization settings, then Connectors, choose Add, then Custom, then Web, and enter the same name and URL. Members then find uListen, labeled Custom, in Customize, then Connectors, and choose Connect.

Limits

Catalog only. uListen covers a curated set of long-form podcast channels, not every podcast or YouTube video. Browse them on the channels page.
Read only. uListen can't add episodes, save what you send, or change the catalog.
Not every episode is ready. Some catalog episodes don't have an analysis or transcript yet. When one is missing, uListen says so.
Size limits. A search returns up to 25 episodes, and an excerpt covers up to 30 minutes of one episode.
Empty isn't absent. A search that finds nothing doesn't prove an episode isn't in the catalog. Different words, or a show filter, often find it.

Troubleshooting

Claude doesn't use uListen.: Check that uListen is on for this chat: choose the + button, then Connectors. Or ask for it by name: "Use uListen to…"
Claude says uListen has no analysis for a video.: The video isn't in the catalog, its analysis isn't ready yet, or uListen can't share it.
Claude says search is busy, asks you to try again, or can't reach uListen.: uListen is busy or hit a temporary error. Wait up to a minute and ask again. If it keeps happening, email support@ulisten.ai with roughly when it started.
The connector won't add.: Check that the URL is https://mcp.ulisten.ai and that Authentication is set to "No sign-in", or, on a one-screen dialog, that Advanced settings are empty. Claude won't add the same URL twice and can't change the sign-in setting later, so remove any earlier uListen connector and add it again. On a Team or Enterprise plan, ask an Owner to add it.
Claude won't add another connector on the Free plan.: The Free plan allows one custom connector. Remove the other one in Customize, then Connectors, and add uListen.
Something else.: Email support@ulisten.ai with what you asked, roughly when, and what Claude said.

Privacy

uListen needs no account of its own and keeps no profile of you. It gets only what Claude puts in each request: the search Claude writes, which can include words from your chat, a YouTube link, or time ranges. It never gets the rest of your conversation, your other chats, Claude's memory, or your files. Search text goes to Voyage AI to find matching episodes, and logs that can include your IP address are deleted after 90 days. The details are in the Privacy Policy.
