Key Takeaways

Trump is mishandling the Epstein controversy and inflaming his own base.

By dismissing Epstein inquiries as a distraction and attacking figures like Pam Bondi’s critics and Rosie O’Donnell, Trump appears defensive and guilty to both hardcore conspiracy believers and more moderate observers, igniting a MAGA civil war he can’t easily control.

Conspiracy ecosystems, once weaponized, eventually turn on their creators.

Years of training supporters to believe in QAnon, pedophile cabals, and ‘Epstein cover-ups’ make it impossible for Trump-world to walk back expectations; when the same logic is applied to Trump and his allies, the movement begins cannibalizing itself.

Tariff brinkmanship risks real economic damage and inflation spikes.

Trump’s threatened tariffs on Russia, the EU, Mexico, Canada, copper, lumber, and drywall could raise housing and tech infrastructure costs, potentially reignite inflation, and force the bond and equity markets—“the real adults in the room”—to push back hard.

Immigration restrictions are driving away elite talent and weakening U.S. leadership.

Galloway argues that America’s historic advantage came from attracting the ‘top million draft picks’ in global talent; hostile rhetoric and policy now push students and scientists toward Europe, risking an own goal larger than Iraq or Brexit economically.

AI’s current gold rush is centered on talent, not products.

Big tech is spending billions on “acqui-hires” like Windsurf’s team, essentially paying for clusters of elite AI researchers rather than mature businesses, creating a market where simply aggregating top talent can yield billion‑dollar exits.

Elite universities’ scarcity model fuels culture wars; expanding seats would defuse tensions.

Galloway contends that DEI has grown unwieldy but that the core problem is constrained admissions and endowment-rich schools behaving like luxury brands; forcing heavily endowed universities to grow freshman classes faster than population would open doors to more low-income, rural, and diverse students simultaneously.

It's always the cover-up, not the scandal itself.

Scott Galloway

When you foment a conspiracy theory, you know, and then they came for me. This is the ultimate example of that.

Scott Galloway

The most dangerous monopoly in the world right now is SpaceX.

Kara Swisher

This is gonna blow up because I listen to these people, and I've seen all the online stuff, and they, they really are, like, rabid.

Scott Galloway

It's always the cover-up. It's not the scandal itself.

Kara Swisher

(instrumental music) Hi, everyone. This is Pivot from New York Magazine and the Vox Media Podcast Network. I'm Kara Swisher.

Scott Galloway

And Donald Trump is definitely on that list.

Kara Swisher

(laughs)

Scott Galloway

That Epstein list.

Kara Swisher

But are you? (laughs)

Scott Galloway

Um, I think I'm one of the few people that's not. I feel-

Kara Swisher

I know. I was surprised.

Scott Galloway

Uh, it's, it's, um, uh, uh, first off, we have to start, we have to change. Rosie O'Donnell should legally change her name to Rosie Epstein.

Kara Swisher

Yeah. (laughs)

Scott Galloway

I have never seen a lamer attempt (laughs) to distract people-

Kara Swisher

(laughs) Right.

Scott Galloway

... from what is going on. And by the way, I would just wanna acknowledge, I thought this was gonna be old news and blow over.

Kara Swisher

Ah.

Scott Galloway

You were right on this.

Kara Swisher

Thank you.

Scott Galloway

I can ... Uh, I was thinking about it. I was-

Kara Swisher

Yeah.

Scott Galloway

... saying this (laughs) night to a friend. I went, uh, last, last week, I was in Ibiza-

Kara Swisher

Ibiza.

Scott Galloway

... on the most perfect night-

Kara Swisher

Yeah.

Scott Galloway

... at Calvin Harris. You know, I like the, like, the Top 40 DJs concert.

Kara Swisher

Okay. Uh-huh.

Scott Galloway

I had taken X for the first time in 30 years.

Kara Swisher

What?

Scott Galloway

Oh my God, I liked me so much on X, Kara.

Kara Swisher

Did you?

Scott Galloway

I really found a lot of-

Kara Swisher

Did you think about having me? Did you think about me?

Scott Galloway

I'm trying to think. You did not-

Kara Swisher

Yeah. (laughs)

Scott Galloway

You were not a front of mind of me when I was on molly.

Kara Swisher

(laughs) We should do that together.

Scott Galloway

And I'm like, the music sounds amazing, it was a perfect night.

Kara Swisher

Yeah.

Scott Galloway

And people are coming up to me and telling me how much they love-

Kara Swisher

Yeah.

Scott Galloway

... my work and how important-

Kara Swisher

Mm-hmm.

Scott Galloway

... my work is. And I'm like, you know, with my, my pupils that look like frying pans.

Kara Swisher

Mm-hmm.

Scott Galloway

And that was, like, one of the best nights I've had in such a long time.

Kara Swisher

Mm-hmm.

Scott Galloway

And I thought, "Would I rather have that again or just to be s- sitting back in my hot girl summer watching Republicans eat themselves alive-

Kara Swisher

Yeah.

Scott Galloway

... over this?"

Kara Swisher

Yeah. Yeah.

Scott Galloway

I got, I got to be honest, I am so here for this.

Kara Swisher

I agree.

Scott Galloway

I think it's fucking amazing.

Kara Swisher

I agree. Uh, thank you for acknowledging that. I actually ... Amanda had the same, um, I, I, you know, a lot of people thought it was distraction. And I'm like, "No, no, this is at the heart of what he's ..." He has ... And, uh, and Amanda did make this point, he has trained them into QAnon, right? He, they're gonna regret the training into QAnon, which was useful when it was useful, but these people really, truly believe this. And I've spent a lot of time on these networks, so I, I know it. Like, you know, when you, when there's like, "Oh, it's no big deal," I'm like, "No, no, this is like ..." I don't know. And, and the pedophile thing is particularly, um, resonant with them. They, they absolutely believe Hillary Clinton had a basement. They absolutely ... Some of them do. They absolutely believe that ge- there's a, there's a cabal to, to kill Jeffrey Epstein, et cetera, et cetera. So I, uh, he, i- it's at the, it's at the, it's one of the structures of his presidency, in a weird way. If you can believe it. I don't believe it, but it's true.
