People with AuDHD are often called introverted extroverts, but psychiatrists are starting to talk about a new personality type which better describes someone with AuDHD, and it's called the otrovert. An otrovert can be sociable, but they'll need more time to recharge before being sociable again. Some days they crave social connection, but some days they genuinely fear it. The interaction they do have is more meaningful. They choose who they give their energy to. They don't simply talk to fill the silence. Otroverts are amazing at reading body language. They have an internal BS radar. They can spot when someone's not being genuine. Otroverts can't stand small talk. Anything that feels forced or artificial feels deeply uncomfortable and drains them. When they talk, it's intentional, and they like to go deep, fast. Otroverts bail on plans often at the last minute. How they feel now is different to how they felt when they agreed to see you. It's not rudeness, it's self-regulation. Otroverts know lots of people, but will only have deep connections with a few. To an otrovert, fewer deep friendships is more valuable than lots of surface level ones.
