Boom, boom, boom, boom,…
- JRJoe Rogan
Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. Four, three, two, one. Oh, and the sweet, sweet sound of amplified voices and my man, Shooter Jennings.
- SJShooter Jennings
(laughs) Hey, man.
- JRJoe Rogan
Dude, you look like you're supposed to wear sunglasses. Some dudes wear sunglasses and you're like, "Bitch, get those sunglasses off."
- SJShooter Jennings
(laughs)
- JRJoe Rogan
But you, you look like you're supposed to be wearing sunglasses.
- SJShooter Jennings
There was a point in time when I moved here, uh, I remember... Well, for a while they were, uh, prescription, so I had an excuse for a long time, but I went back to contacts. But there was a point in time wh- when I, I remember turning to my friend, I was like 21, and I was like, "I think I'm just gonna keep them on all the time. And then-"
- JRJoe Rogan
(laughs)
- SJShooter Jennings
"And then it'll just be a thing. And that way I can just... If I have to close my eyes, nobody will notice, or if I'm stoned, nobody will notice."
- JRJoe Rogan
When people get super famous, like Jay-Z famous, they wear 'em inside everywhere, just so people don't catch a glimpse of their eyes-
- SJShooter Jennings
(laughs) Right.
- JRJoe Rogan
... and hand them a demo tape. "Hey-"
- SJShooter Jennings
See, if you start out like a scrub wearing them-
- JRJoe Rogan
(laughs)
- SJShooter Jennings
... then, then it's weird if you take them off, you know?
- JRJoe Rogan
Well, it's a different thing in the Black community too. Um, like a real cool Black artist is just allowed. They're just allowed. They can just do it.
- SJShooter Jennings
Right, right.
- JRJoe Rogan
They can-
- SJShooter Jennings
I mean, I, I'd be disappointed if, like, I saw Bob Dylan out somewhere and he wasn't wearing them. Like, Kris Kristofferson-
- JRJoe Rogan
Right.
- SJShooter Jennings
... wears them all the time.
- JRJoe Rogan
Yeah.
- SJShooter Jennings
He has the good fade too. It's like black, brown, white kinda.
- JRJoe Rogan
Yeah, he fits right the fuck in. Conor McGregor, he can wear them indoors.
- SJShooter Jennings
Oh, yeah.
- JRJoe Rogan
Some dudes can wear them indoors.
- SJShooter Jennings
(laughs)
- JRJoe Rogan
If I wore them indoors, I'd be a douchebag. I can't-
- SJShooter Jennings
(laughs)
- JRJoe Rogan
(laughs) Plus, the kind I wear, I wear like, you know, fucking sport ones. I have a couple pairs of those that look cool, like a cool-ass aviator type ones.
- SJShooter Jennings
Hey, these are Porsches. My dad used to wear-
- 15:00 – 30:00
You could smack it.…
- JRJoe Rogan
driving by. He's got-
- SJShooter Jennings
You could smack it.
- JRJoe Rogan
He's got a f- there it is. That's it.
- SJShooter Jennings
Wow. (laughs) Look at that.
- JRJoe Rogan
Dude, it's a floating Apple Store.
- SJShooter Jennings
See, I don't want that. I don't wanna have to deal with that and the maintenance-
- JRJoe Rogan
Mm-hmm.
- SJShooter Jennings
... and everything. I'm fine. I'd rather just-
- JRJoe Rogan
Yeah.
- SJShooter Jennings
... just, first class-
- JRJoe Rogan
Just coin it.
- SJShooter Jennings
... it and, uh, and go to, you know, go on a trip and maybe rent that yacht for, like... if I had the money to do it.
- JRJoe Rogan
Even renting that yacht would be, like, a half a million dollars a week.
- SJShooter Jennings
Oh, fuck that. I'll just get a boat and go up to it right, right away.
- JRJoe Rogan
Yeah, see, the difference between the experience in a boat that big and an experience in a boat that's, like, a fraction of that size, it's not that different. Like, that's pretty fucking awesome. But ultimately, it's like a hou- like, that's, there, there you get a good impression of what it's like. It's, it does, it doesn't really do it justice in an image, because it's so, so modern, right? Like, uh, when you, when you get near it, it's so strange looking.
- SJShooter Jennings
Yeah, I mean, (clears throat) again, it'd be awesome to party on that for, like, a week. But the rest-
- JRJoe Rogan
Look at that guy's boat there.
- SJShooter Jennings
... the rest of it would suck.
- JRJoe Rogan
Look at that boat they just pulled right up. Hey, man.
- GUGuest
Mm-hmm.
- JRJoe Rogan
Yo, Steve.
- SJShooter Jennings
(laughs)
- JRJoe Rogan
My fucking iPad's broke.
- SJShooter Jennings
(laughs)
- JRJoe Rogan
Dude, my fucking iPad just broke.
- SJShooter Jennings
(laughs) I mean, I don't know, man. He built it-
- JRJoe Rogan
Wake up, Steve.
- SJShooter Jennings
Did he ever ride it?
- JRJoe Rogan
No, he, he shit the bed before he wrote it.
- SJShooter Jennings
Oh.
- 30:00 – 45:00
Oh, come on, let…
- JRJoe Rogan
back on and I just don't know if I could do it.
- SJShooter Jennings
Oh, come on, let him come on. They're fucking shutting him down.
- JRJoe Rogan
It's not that they- they are shutting him down, but the problem is (clears throat) he's still on trial. This, this whole trial that's going on with, uh, Sandy Hook.
- SJShooter Jennings
I know.
- JRJoe Rogan
Like, all that shit has to be resolved first. But it doesn't make sense-
- SJShooter Jennings
I get it.
- JRJoe Rogan
Like, Bill Maher, respect to Bill Maher, he was-
- SJShooter Jennings
I love, respect to him for saying he gets to speak too, and I agree too.
- JRJoe Rogan
Yeah, he was, he was on his show and people were clapping and cheering that he was pulled off of these networks and pulled off of everything. He's like, "Look, this guy said crazy lies about me," this is what Bill Maher said. He said, "The guy said crazy lies about me." He goes, "But he still gets to talk." Like, this is what America's about.
- SJShooter Jennings
It is.
- JRJoe Rogan
Free speech means all speech.
- SJShooter Jennings
But see, like, here's what I don't understand.
- JRJoe Rogan
(laughs)
- SJShooter Jennings
Like, Alex had me on many times, and he supported my record Black Ribbons when it came out.
- JRJoe Rogan
Did he really?
- SJShooter Jennings
And, and, yeah, he did.
- JRJoe Rogan
You've been on the Alex Jones Show many times?
- SJShooter Jennings
I, I've been, I've been on it three times.
- JRJoe Rogan
Were you ever sober?
- SJShooter Jennings
Yeah, every time.
- JRJoe Rogan
Really?
- SJShooter Jennings
Ev- yeah, yeah.
- JRJoe Rogan
You've never been on a show sober?
- SJShooter Jennings
Every time, 'cause I've never, I, it was never a situation-
- JRJoe Rogan
(coughs)
- SJShooter Jennings
Well, the first time, I was, the, uh, we had the Black Ribbons record that I did that has Stephen King on it and stuff. Like, so when that record came out, nobody would support the record. So Alex Jones came-
- JRJoe Rogan
Stephen King's on your record?
- SJShooter Jennings
Yeah, o- o- older record from way back.
- JRJoe Rogan
What did he do? Like, voiceover the show?
- SJShooter Jennings
He's in, he plays, he plays a DJ, a radio talk show host that comes in and out of the record, um, probably-
- 45:00 – 1:00:00
Right. …
- SJShooter Jennings
out for a specific thing. Yes, it involved the lives of children and everything like that. I understand that. I'm not, I'm not at all sympathizing for the, those family or for him versus-
- JRJoe Rogan
Right.
- SJShooter Jennings
... those families. But I'm just saying, I just think that like, at the moment, everything is so hot with this. And it's, and it, it's kind of exhausting and it's, the internet is the reason for it, uh, in, uh, in my opinion because I think that like, all the years that have come along, the mass amount of people that have migrated to social media, the way that the integrated conversations happen, the way that that stuff ends up on the news now. Like AOL chat rooms in fucking 1998, that shit did not end up on CNN. People were not listening to those thing- the, the, the best you could get-
- JRJoe Rogan
Thank God.
- SJShooter Jennings
... the closest you could get to fucking TV was To Catch a Predator when, when you were on that-
- JRJoe Rogan
Right.
- SJShooter Jennings
... at that time, you know? And I feel like at this point in time, people need, again, not those families. Their lawsuit, that's fine. Uh, that's, that's their thing. But, but I just feel like people need to lighten up a little bit in the sense of, um, I just think that the social media thing is very hazardous. And I think that people's faith in all of it, it doesn't have to do with, with fake news and it doesn't have to do with Russian bots and all this shit. I just think that like, Alex Jones is a casualty because he's always been that guy.
- JRJoe Rogan
What do you, what do you mean by it doesn't m- have to do with fake news and Russian bots?
- SJShooter Jennings
I, I mean that like-
- JRJoe Rogan
But do you, do you-
- SJShooter Jennings
... 'cause there's always excuses for all the reasons why people believe.
- JRJoe Rogan
Right. But you, you do understand that's real, right?
- SJShooter Jennings
I believe that, of course fake news is real. Of course-
- JRJoe Rogan
But no, no. Russian bots are real.
- SJShooter Jennings
I mean, on-
- JRJoe Rogan
They make, they, there's like, there's tr- there's a- an NPR document... No, no, no.
- SJShooter Jennings
I'm sure.
- JRJoe Rogan
A Radiolab podcast about, um, Russian troll farms. It's fucking fascinating. It's really interesting.
- SJShooter Jennings
I mean-
- JRJoe Rogan
Where these people show up at work and their, their basic job is to put propaganda out on Instagram and social media and Twitter and comments and-
- SJShooter Jennings
I agree.
- JRJoe Rogan
... all that stuff.
- SJShooter Jennings
I agree. But, but let's, let's get out of the, let me, let me tell you an example, uh, what I, what I have seen of this. I run a bulletin board system called Bit Sunrise, which is like old technology that used to be modems used to dial into bulletin board systems. You can Telnet into it. Telnet is a port, port 23 is the Telnet port. Well, DVRs also share port 23. So-
- JRJoe Rogan
DVRs like, uh-
- SJShooter Jennings
DVRs like your, your DVR-
- JRJoe Rogan
... your DirecTV where you're-
- SJShooter Jennings
... that is connected to-
- JRJoe Rogan
... storing your foot-
- SJShooter Jennings
... not all, not all... Yeah, where you, w-
- JRJoe Rogan
Where you, like, if you, if you record a show on a weekly basis-
- 1:00:00 – 1:03:54
Right. …
- JRJoe Rogan
underground or the-
- SJShooter Jennings
Right.
- JRJoe Rogan
... fucking earth being flat.
- SJShooter Jennings
Like the flat earth thing, yeah.
- JRJoe Rogan
There's a lot of stuff that's just nonsense, so it's, it's hard to separate. Here's what I think. I think we are going through an adolescent stage as a, as a being, as an evolving being. And I think our bodies and our minds and our consciousness are becoming synchronized with technology. And along the way, like right now, we are in this chaotic, screaming, sweating, crying, pissing, shitting state of chaos. And we are looking to figure out how to stop the bleeding. We're looking to shove thumbs into dykes. Dykes meaning, like, dams and-
- SJShooter Jennings
(laughs) Oh, goddamn.
- JRJoe Rogan
And we are looking to try to figure out a way to stop the bleeding. We're trying to put patches and Band-Aids on things. We're trying to manage the chaos. We're trying to figure out what... And this is a stage that we're going through because this-
- SJShooter Jennings
But see, I think the synchronization is bad.
- JRJoe Rogan
Hold on a second. This is a new thing. This is a new thing for human beings. The ability to communicate widespread over millions and millions of people instantaneously is a new thing. So people have say that never had say before. They have influence that never had influence before. They have their ability to contribute, and they might not have thought these things through, and these things catch fire. And they run through dry forests like a goddamn tornado of, of, of, of flames that you see on CNN when the Mendocino fire up in northern California.
- SJShooter Jennings
Yeah, yeah.
- JRJoe Rogan
This is, this is what happens with ideas because there's no way to contain them, and they don't know what's right or what's wrong. I think that what we're going through from the period of 1994 to the period of 2018 is like a crazy fire in the middle of a hurricane. It's like everything is nuts, and no one knows how to stop it, and no one knows what to do. And what do we do? We get together in shelters, and we fucking give people water. And we try to stop the fire and take away everyone's lighters. And that's what we're doing right now. We're trying to take away lighters. We're trying to stop people who start fires. And this is what's happening with Alex. And it's, it's not that Alex is a bad guy. It's that he has... He's by himself, okay?
- SJShooter Jennings
Irresponsibility.
- JRJoe Rogan
It's irresponsible to say that you know for sure, a fact, that these parents from Sandy Hook are crisis actors and their kids never died. It's irresponsible.
- SJShooter Jennings
Right.
- JRJoe Rogan
And he didn't think it was irresponsible when he was doing it because he's probably caught up in what he does, and he's caught up in the wave of ad-libbing just like you and I are ad-libbing.
- SJShooter Jennings
Right.
- JRJoe Rogan
I didn't... We didn't even talk about what the fuck we were gonna talk about, right?
- SJShooter Jennings
No, you just turned on and we went.
- JRJoe Rogan
We just-
- SJShooter Jennings
Yeah.
- JRJoe Rogan
We just turned on and went. We had a couple of drinks.
- SJShooter Jennings
You're, you're, that's very right. You're, what you're saying there is very right. I don't mean to cut you off.
- JRJoe Rogan
It's okay.
- SJShooter Jennings
But the, but what you're saying there is very smart because to me, uh, y- you know, it i- it's... You're right. He, he has always been doing this.
- JRJoe Rogan
He does.
- SJShooter Jennings
And at this point in time, his reach has grown.
- JRJoe Rogan
Right.
- SJShooter Jennings
And, and that way-
- JRJoe Rogan
He's now, there's a wind behind him.
- SJShooter Jennings
Right, which-
