    Intro

    1. CG

      ... videos. (gasps)

  2. 0:011:55

Radio’s last superstars and why podcasts are the new center

    1. JR

Boom, and we're live. Uh, ladies and gentlemen, Charlamagne, the God. My man, Andrew Schulz-

    2. CG

      Yeah.

    3. JR

Thanks for being here. Thanks for-

    4. CG

      Joe Rogan.

    5. JR

      ... setting this up.

    6. AS

Thank you for having me, sir.

    7. CG

      Pleasure.

    8. AS

      Thanks, guys.

    9. JR

My pleasure. I've been a fan of yours for a while. You, I think you're the last great radio host, and you will be the last famous radio host because I think radio is-

    10. CG

      Yeah, don't.

    11. JR

... a dying thing. You're the last great one. You're the, you're the one who made it famous from radio. Who the fuck else?

    12. AS

      Yeah.

    13. JR

      In this era?

    14. CG

I mean, I, yeah, I think radio is, like, one of those, uh, one of those rare lanes where it's really not a lot of people who prosper in it.

    15. JR

      Yeah.

    16. CG

      You know what I mean?

    17. JR

      Yeah.

    18. CG

Like, if you think about it, especially in, in the Black radio space. I mean, you've got the Tom Joiners, the Doug Banks, the Wendy Williams-

    19. JR

      Yeah.

    20. CG

You know, so it's, it's rare in that lane, but I think, I think you've got people that have, have established good careers in radio, though.

    21. JR

      Yeah, but in the past.

    22. AS

Oh, but that's a great question.

    23. JR

      But in the past.

    24. AS

      Who is the last one?

    25. JR

He's the last one. That's the Last Samurai.

    26. AS

You're the last person to become-

    27. CG

      Ah, I think-

    28. AS

      ... famous from radio.

    29. CG

      Nah.

    30. JR

      100%. Last Samurai, 100%.

  3. 1:552:46

Breakfast Club as a podcast/YouTube brand + the Howard Stern/Sirius paywall problem

    1. CG

The brilliant idiots- But, you know we do-

    2. JR

      Yeah.

    3. CG

      You know Podtrak, right?

    4. JR

      Mm-hmm, yeah, sure, sure.

    5. CG

You know of that? Like, we just cracked Podtrak, The Breakfast Club. We was number 20 on Podtrak.

    6. JR

Oh, okay, so you put that online as well.

    7. CG

Yeah, we put it out as a podcast.

    8. JR

      That's a good move.

    9. CG

'Cause I feel like, with radio, that's what it is. Like, people still listen to terrestrial radio, but-

    10. JR

      Yeah.

    11. CG

... you have to go where the people are. So, you have-

    12. JR

      Yeah.

    13. CG

... to have the podcast. You have to have the YouTube following. Like, you can't wait for people just to come to radio every day.

    14. AS

I wish, wish you could s- I wish you could swear, though. See, that's the problem with radio.

    15. CG

Well, they do. That's the thing. He, so they, they release all the interviews they do on Breakfast Club, and those things explode.

    16. JR

      Right on YouTube.

    17. CG

      And-

    18. JR

      Yeah.

    19. CG

... they have all the curses-

    20. JR

That's where I found out about it.

    21. CG

... and everything like that. Exactly.

    22. JR

      Yeah.

    23. CG

I think that's where most people globally-

    24. JR

      Yeah.

    25. CG

... would watch and listen. I mean, right? Yeah, yeah. That's what separates this radio, this era of radio from other eras of radio. Like-

    26. JR

      Right.

    27. CG

... Howard Stern didn't have YouTube. You know what I'm saying? If Howard Stern had YouTube, it wouldn't be no question. He'd still be the motherfucking guy. I mean, even though he is the guy.

    28. JR

      Right.

    29. CG

But he'd still be like, super, super the guy in this era.

  4. 2:463:41

Big money media deals, stock jokes, and nostalgic tech shifts (Blockbuster → Netflix)

    1. JR

Mm-hmm, right. He's in that paywall, which is very strange. That Sirius paywall. That's the strangest paywall.

    2. CG

(sighs) Yeah, yeah. He took the check.

    3. JR

      He took a big check.

    4. AS

But then you get financial independence, man.

    5. JR

      Well, he's already-

    6. AS

      It's a big check.

    7. JR

Let's be realistic. He was already financially independent.

    8. AS

      So why'd he do it?

    9. JR

And he could (smacks lips) aw, he just, the numbers they're throwing at him.

    10. CG

Yeah, that was a different level of number, though.

    11. JR

      It was $300 million, right?

    12. CG

      Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

    13. JR

Well, I think that was just initially.

    14. CG

      Yeah, that's the difference.

    15. JR

I mean, I think he makes like $100 million every year or something crazy.

    16. AS

So, $300 was flat, and then another $100.

    17. JR

I mean, he's been doing it for years.

    18. CG

And then he has so much stock. Like, that's the difference between, like, your kids being straight and, like, your great-great-great grandkids being straight.

    19. AS

      Right.

    20. JR

Yeah, but Siri- stock in Sirius to me is like Blockbuster stock.

    21. CG

      (laughs)

    22. AS

      (laughs)

    23. JR

It's like, hang on to that.

    24. AS

      (laughs)

    25. CG

      Blockbuster stock-

    26. AS

      It's like-

    27. CG

... meant something at some point-

    28. JR

      Yes!

    29. CG

... until Netflix came the fuck along.

    30. JR

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I remember when Netflix used to have those DVDs that you would get, like-

  5. 3:415:38

Regional speech, “li-berry,” and why correcting people is usually pointless

    1. CG

No, that was, that was so funny. I was home this weekend. Uh, I was in, I was in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. And like, there was a Black Panther DVD from the library in my mom's house. I'm like, "What the fuck?"

    2. AS

      The library?

    3. CG

      Yes! (laughs)

    4. JR

Wait a minute. Black Panther as in the original Black Panthers or-

    5. CG

No, the movie that just came out.

    6. JR

Oh! I was like, "Yo, she was true from back in the day."

    7. CG

      (laughs)

    8. JR

"Okay, that's an original Black Panther."

    9. CG

I'm like, "Who got the Black Panther DVD that they checked out from the library and have not brought it back yet?" You don't even bring it back to the library yet?

    10. JR

      Nah, you don't have to.

    11. CG

      Like-

    12. AS

What are they really gonna do? They're gonna get mad at you.

    13. CG

... why would you bring the Black Panther from the library?

    14. JR

'Cause you wanted it and it was there, and you were at the library, I guess.

    15. AS

I'm still trying to understand why you call it li-berry.

    16. CG

      What is it?

    17. AS

      Library.

    18. CG

      I don't fucking know. I didn't graduate college.

    19. JR

      Li-berry. It's like, uh...

    20. CG

      Library.

    21. JR

Yeah, it's one of those words, you, you know?

    22. CG

      It's that-

    23. AS

      Don't bail him out.

    24. CG

      (laughs)

    25. JR

It's like, you know what I'm saying?

    26. CG

      Li-berry, library.

    27. JR

      Like, especially.

    28. CG

      Library.

    29. JR

You ever talk to people in Texas?

    30. CG

      Especially.

  6. 5:388:14

Hunting as an ethical response to factory farming + outdoor fantasies vs reality

    1. CG

'Cause you got a lot of southern sensibilities. Like, before we started the podcast, you was talking about all the hunting you, hunting that you do.

    2. JR

      I didn't get into that until 2012.

    3. CG

      Wow.

    4. AS

      Why?

    5. JR

Because I was thinking about being a vegetarian. I was like, I, I was watching these animal rights videos.

    6. AS

      Right.

    7. JR

These PETA videos. And I was like, "I don't want to participate in this factory farming shit." It just, it's fucked up. You watch these pigs slammed into these cages together, and cows and chickens. I was like, "This is inhumane."

    8. AS

      Right.

    9. CG

It's insane. But then you decided to go out and start killing them yourself?

    10. JR

I decided one of two things. Either I was gonna, I was gonna try hunting, and either I was gonna become a vegetarian or I was be- going to become a hunter. And so I became a hunter.... I did it, I killed a deer, I ate it. I was like, "This is perfect. I love this."

    11. CG

Oh, I'm trying to figure out-

    12. JR

      Like, this makes sense.

    13. CG

I'm trying to figure out the thought process to that.

    14. JR

It was a thought process. (laughs)

    15. AS

      That makes sense.

    16. CG

Where you saw that it was inhumane for these-

    17. JR

      (laughs)

    18. CG

      ... animals to be dying-

    19. JR

      No, no, no. Not dying.

    20. CG

... and that made you wanna kill them?

    21. JR

      Factory farming.

    22. AS

      Factory farming.

    23. JR

Factory farming. Uh, not that they're... Look, every animal dies.

    24. AS

      Yeah, yeah.

    25. JR

They don't live forever and become angels. They live in the wild.

    26. AS

      Yeah.

    27. JR

When you hunt, you dip your feet into the wild. You go out there-

    28. AS

      Yes.

    29. JR

... and you, you fair chase. You go find them, you track them, you stay downwind, you get in a good position, you kill them, then you eat them.

    30. AS

      Right.

  7. 8:1412:35

City wildlife to Bigfoot: Jersey bears, moose logic, and belief vs evidence

    1. CG

I'm surprised. Like, you should try hunting in New York. Like, nobody's ever done that.

    2. JR

      You can-

    3. CG

Like, go out and hunt the rats.

    4. AS

      (laughs)

    5. CG

I'm ser- I'm serious. (laughs) Think about all them big ass rats in New York.

    6. JR

      (laughs)

    7. CG

      Like, nobody's ever done that.

    8. AS

      I'm not gonna lie.

    9. CG

You'll probably get a lot of attention for that shit.

    10. AS

Bro, back in the day, you could go to 125th Street in like Spanish Harlem-

    11. CG

      Yeah.

    12. AS

... and you could buy pigeons. People were like catching pigeons and they were selling them and trying to front like they were exotic pigeons.

    13. CG

      Bullshit.

    14. AS

I swear to God in my life.

    15. JR

Well, you know, pigeons were brought over here for food. That's what squab is.

    16. CG

      What the fuck is squab?

    17. JR

Squab is like a v-, like a bougie restaurant item, and it's actually young pigeons.

    18. CG

      Really?

    19. JR

Yeah, that's what, that's what squab is. Yeah.

    20. CG

      I didn't know that.

    21. JR

All pigeons, all the pigeons you see in the United States are all brought in from somewhere else for food and then they release to become feral. They're like the wild hogs of the bird world.

    22. CG

What are young rats called that are used for food?

    23. JR

It's a good question. Who uses young rats for food?

    24. CG

      I have no idea.

    25. AS

      I don't know. But there's a, there's a comic-

    26. JR

Oh, is it that rats documentary?

    27. AS

No, this is... Well, this is just the dogs that hunt rats in New York.

    28. JR

      Oh, yeah, I saw that.

    29. AS

      Oh, right.

    30. The Rottweilers.

  8. 12:3517:59

Memory, false confessions, and ‘the hag’—sleep paralysis and night terrors

    1. CG

But in third grade, I did.

    2. AS

      But- but-

    3. JR

      Yeah, it was third grade.

    4. CG

... he believed that his ears actually changed shape.

    5. JR

No, they did. I was sitting at the lunch table- (laughs)

    6. AS

      (laughs) 50 cent.

    7. CG

      (laughs)

    8. AS

      That's surreal. That's so real.

    9. CG

And I was telling everybody I was gonna turn into this werewolf at lunchtime. And I was saying this for, like, a week straight, and we was all sitting at the table, and I was just sitting there like, "It's gonna happen."

    10. JR

      (laughs)

    11. AS

      (laughs)

    12. CG

"It's happening. It's happening. It's happening." And my ears actually went from round to pointy for like two seconds.

    13. AS

      There's no fucking way. (laughs)

    14. JR

      (laughs)

    15. CG

And when all, all the kids at the table saw it and jumped up and ran. So they fucked up my concentration. So if I had have kept that concentration going, I probably would have turned full-fledged w- werewolf in that moment.

    16. JR

      Or maybe levitated.

    17. AS

      Possible.

    18. CG

      I've done that before.

    19. JR

      Really?

    20. CG

Oh, yeah. I used to, I grew up Jehovah Witness, so I used to leave the Kingdom Hall. And I would walk outside of the Kingdom Hall-

    21. JR

      (laughs)

    22. CG

... and I would like jump in the air and be looking down at the Kingdom Hall. And I'd stay up there for a while, and then I would come down.

    23. JR

      Whoa.

    24. AS

(laughs) You see how he believes... But here's the thing-

    25. CG

      That's a fact. (laughs)

    26. AS

... he's not, he's not doing bits, right? He really-

    27. JR

      I understand.

    28. AS

      ... believes this shit.

    29. CG

Okay, I'm just telling you what happened in my life. I mean-

    30. AS

      Uh-huh.

  9. 17:5926:37

Aliens, infinity, relativity, and the ‘light sail’ idea (plus Bob Lazar & Space Force jokes)

    1. JR

It could be. The thing about extraterrestrials, right?

    2. AS

      You believe in them?

    3. JR

      Well-

    4. CG

You know I believe in him.

    5. AS

This ... Well, you believe in everything.

    6. JR

      The r- the reality is-

    7. AS

You believe in toys that can harass you as a child.

    8. JR

There's, there's no evidence, but the numbers of humans ... I mean, the numbers of planets, rather, that could support humans, they're, they're pretty ... W- w- just what we've documented so far is pretty interesting. Just what they know about the thousands of planets they've discovered, there's hundreds that could possibly support human life. And then there's hundreds of billions of galaxies.

    9. AS

      Right.

    10. JR

So the idea that we're the only one ... Not only that, Neil deGrasse Tyson explained this to me. It's r- this is, this is a mind fuck and a half.

    11. AS

      Mm-hmm.

    12. JR

That the universe is so big that not only is there another you out there, that has done everything exactly as you've done, to e- every pause-

    13. AS

      Mm-hmm.

    14. JR

Like that pause? Every pause, down to the second.

    15. AS

      Yeah.

    16. JR

      An infinite number of times.

    17. AS

Yeah. Y- yeah. You're talking about ... Is it called the, uh, infinite ... In infinite universes, there's this exact conversation happening-

    18. JR

      Yeah.

    19. AS

... with people who look exactly like that. Because infinity implies that there could be a million-

    20. JR

      And infinite variations.

    21. AS

      Right.

    22. JR

There's, there's one where you get up right now and you have to take a piss.

    23. AS

      Right, right.

    24. JR

And you run out of the room. Where Charlamagne-

    25. AS

'Cause there's ... There you are here, I'm there. Yeah.

    26. JR

There's one where you get up and you're mad-

    27. AS

      Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

    28. JR

... that we don't believe you, that you saw Bigfoot or something.

    29. AS

      Yeah.

    30. JR

You know? That that kind of shit-

  10. 26:3744:06

NDAs, reputation leverage, and media ‘cancellation’ (Bill O’Reilly as a case study)

    1. CG

      NDAs mean shit anymore.

    2. JR

      (coughs)

    3. CG

Nobody gives a fuck about NDAs, bro.

    4. AS

      Yo, so we had-

    5. CG

You can pay people and they don't care. They'll come out and talk about it later. Or like...

    6. AS

We had, uh, La- Lisa Anne on a, on a podcast, right? It was a podcast called s-

    7. JR

      The porn star?

    8. AS

Uh, yeah, called Flagrant 2, right? And Lisa Anne came on and, um, she was talking about NDAs and how stupid women are for, uh, obeying them. And I was like, "What are you talking about?" And she's like, "What do they have to lose? They don't have any money."

    9. CG

      Exactly.

    10. AS

So she's like, "You have a bunch of fucking heels in your apartment. You think that Leonardo gonna, DiCaprio is gonna take your heels? You could break-"

    11. CG

      (laughs)

    12. AS

"... any fucking NDA." But for whatever reason they get scared.

    13. CG

You pay a woman a half a million dollars, tell her to keep her mouth closed. She breaks the NDA. In the NDA it says she has to pay you back. What, when you gonna be waiting-

    14. AS

      With my money.

    15. CG

Exactly. You're gonna be waiting on that money forever.

    16. AS

      With my money.

    17. JR

My favorite one is Bill O'Reilly. He had to pay a lady $32 million.

    18. CG

Un... There's no pussy worth that.

    19. AS

I need to see what she looks like.

    20. JR

      Watch... What did he do?

    21. AS

Can we look at this woman?

    22. JR

      I don't know.

    23. CG

      (laughs)

    24. AS

      I need to see that.

    25. JR

What did (laughs) what did (laughs) -

    26. CG

      (laughs)

    27. AS

Yo, Bill is into some wild shit.

    28. JR

      Wild shit. Yeah.

    29. AS

Can we... There's no picture of this woman?

    30. JR

      I don't... I don't know.

  11. 44:0651:05

OJ on Twitter, fame as currency, and people attracted to dangerous men

    1. JR

Dude, do you watch those videos?

    2. CG

      No.

    3. AS

      It's amazing.

    4. CG

And why do you? Why do we entertain that shit?

    5. AS

      You love it.

    6. JR

      Fascinating.

    7. AS

      Oh, you love it, dude.

    8. JR

      Fascinating.

    9. CG

      Until-

    10. JR

      "Hello, Twitter world."

    11. AS

      (laughs)

    12. (laughs)

    13. CG

      (laughs)

    14. JR

(laughs) "There's a lot of BS out there." Up until now?

    15. CG

First of all, that video, it pisses me off that he does videos on Twitter. Take that shit to Instagram.

    16. AS

He doesn't know. He does, he thinks Twitter is that.

    17. CG

      Just go to fucking Snapchat.

    18. AS

      That's what he thinks.

    19. JR

Ugh. He's holding his reading glasses in his hand. I mean, he's going blind. He's 71 years old.

    20. AS

      You could-

    21. JR

Did you see the, the DM he sent that dude?

    22. CG

      Amazing.

    23. JR

      With all the knives.

    24. CG

      All the knife emojis.

    25. AS

      (laughs)

    26. JR

      (laughs)

    27. AS

      (laughs)

    28. CG

But yo, you understand that was strategic, right? He sent that on Monday, Monday was the 25th anniversary of the fucking Bronco chase. So you think that he didn't just wanna be in the news? Like, that was, uh, that was, that was a strategic move.

    29. JR

I don't think he's that smart. I think what's going on is he's reacting to someone fucking with him, and he, he doesn't, he doesn't know how to just let shit slide. So somebody makes a parody video where he's doing his Twitter, you know, he says, "Hello, Twitter world." And then someone's got, "Help, police," in the background.

    30. CG

      (laughs)

Dominican Republic resort deaths + the ‘people chase danger’ phenomenon

    1. JR

What the fuck is happening in the Dominican Republic?

    2. CG

      I don't know.

    3. JR

Wait, wait. What happened? All these people are dying.

    4. AS

Well, they sh- tried to get at Big Papi.

    5. CG

      No, man.

    6. AS

No, no, no. This is a different thing.

    7. CG

      People are dying at resorts.

    8. JR

That d- that was an assassination attempt.

    9. AS

      Hold on.

    10. JR

People are dying at these resorts. They're, they're... Listen.

    11. CG

      Yes.

    12. JR

All these Americans that are being poisoned. One lady got r- beaten to death and raped. She didn't get beaten to death, but, like, beaten half to de-... She survived, but, like, her whole head was just a big swollen mass of-

    13. CG

      Yeah?

    14. JR

      ... blood and injuries.

    15. AS

Yeah. (laughs) Every day it's in the store.

    16. JR

Some guy who worked at the... worked at this resort. She saw him wearing... At least he was wearing an outfit. Clubbed her over the head, and did all kinds of crazy shit to her, and left her for dead.

    17. AS

      (exhales)

    18. CG

Did... I read a story today. It was a group of high school kids who went to the DR of... Celebrating graduation or whatever. All of them ended up in the hospital, and nobody knows why this shit is happening. Nine people have died at these resorts and nobody knows why.

    19. JR

And a lot of them are dying from pulmonary edema and heart failure.

    20. AS

      What is that?

    21. JR

It's, like, some blood issue, and they're drinking things from the minibar and fucking croaking.

    22. CG

      From the minibar. Yes.

    23. AS

      (laughs)

    24. JR

      What? That's-

    25. CG

You didn't hear about that shit?

    26. AS

      No.

    27. JR

      You didn't hear about this?

    28. CG

Oh, yeah. They gonna be building a wall around DR in a minute.

    29. JR

      What is the number-

    30. AS

      (laughs)

Drugs stories: fake-sniffing coke, coca tea, MDMA crashes, and Burning Man feelings

    1. AS

      You ever do coke?

    2. JR

      No. Never. Never done it.

    3. AS

      You ever do coke?

    4. CG

I've fake sniffed coke once. I smoked it in a blunt with some weed-

    5. AS

      Okay.

    6. CG

... back in the day, but I f- I fake sniffed it. Like-

    7. AS

      Fake sniffed?

    8. CG

It was like, the lines were on the table, and I just wanted to make the people that I was around feel comfortable, almost like on some Training Day shit.

    9. JR

      Yeah.

    10. CG

'Cause I didn't want them to think I was, like, an undercover cop or anything.

    11. JR

      (laughs)

    12. AS

      (laughs)

    13. CG

So, I motherfucking... You just do like this.

    14. JR

      Yeah.

    15. CG

      And you knock it off.

    16. JR

      Yeah.

    17. AS

      (laughs)

    18. CG

And just make sure you get a little on your face, and then you just go, "Whoo!"

    19. AS

      (laughs)

    20. JR

      (laughs)

    21. AS

      (laughs)

    22. CG

And everybody's high, so it's not like they really fucking notice.

    23. AS

Wait, do Black dudes say "whoo" after doing coke too?

    24. CG

I don't know. I did. (laughs) I thought that's what, I just thought that's what you did after you fucking sniffed the line.

    25. AS

'Cause people watch white people movies-

    26. JR

      Every movie I saw-

    27. CG

      ... and saw Ric Flair.

    28. AS

      (laughs)

    29. CG

Every movie I saw, they let out a goddamn Ric Flair whoo.

    30. JR

I've had that tea, that mata de coco tea. It's like tea made out of coca leaves.... yeah. And it goes-
