COVID antibodies, vaccines, and comic trash talk to start the show

    1. NA

    2. NA

The Joe Rogan Experience. (rock music)

    3. JR

Train by day, Joe Rogan podcast by night, all day. This is basically a super show, ladies and gentlemen. Shane Gillis.

    4. AS

      Hey, super spreader of love.

    5. JR

      Ari Shaffir.

    6. NA

      What's happening?

    7. JR

And Mark Normand with a mask on. He's got a shtick going.

    8. MN

      Hey. Just wanna be safe.

    9. JR

We just saw your, uh, antibodies. Y- we all have antibodies except Ari.

    10. AS

I ha- I have other things, guys. I'm on a different level.

    11. MN

      Ve- ve-

    12. JR

You have the most bitch ass antibody line from that vaccine.

    13. MN

      (laughs) Auschwitz.

    14. AS

      (laughs)

    15. JR

And you had it in June?

    16. AS

      I had that-

    17. JR

So July, August, September, October, November, five months. It's useless.

    18. AS

Wait, July, August, September, October, November. Five months?

    19. JR

      Useless.

    20. AS

      Does nothing.

    21. MN

      There are weaker people.

    22. AS

And yet I've never gotten it. I've survived everything. Overdoses.

    23. JR

      It's amazing. It's amazing.

    24. AS

      Yeah. Yeah.

    25. JR

      It's amazing.

    26. AS

      Resilience. Resilience over strength.

    27. JR

Maybe it's all the drugs. Maybe it's the drugs. Maybe the drugs.

    28. AS

Kills everything else. Kills brain cells, can't kill those cells?

    29. JR

Right. That's good. Th- I like how you're thinking.

    30. AS

      (laughs) Prove me wrong.

  2. 2:304:06

Chappelle backlash vs. real-world audiences and out-of-context outrage

    1. JR

Yeah, right now. But meanwhile, when the guy goes on stage, I r- I filmed him going on stage, uh, when we did, uh... New Orleans or Nashville? I think New Orleans.

    2. AS

      Yeah.

    3. JR

It's the fucking craziest sound you've ever heard in your life.

    4. AS

      Yeah.

    5. MN

      Really?

    6. JR

Oh, my God, they're so happy he's there.

    7. MN

How is New Orleans, though? 'Cause they can be notoriously shitty-

    8. AS

      They were great.

    9. MN

      ... audiences.

    10. JR

      They were great.

    11. MN

      All right.

    12. AS

      They were a good time.

    13. JR

It was wild. It was wild. No, it was wild.

    14. AS

The same thing with Louis when he went up as a seller, it was always, like, explosions.

    15. JR

      Yeah, it's-

    16. MN

      Yeah, it was-

    17. JR

      People are happy, you know?

    18. AS

      People are happy.

    19. JR

It's a small percentage of very loud people that are canceling him, and all of them didn't see the special.

    20. MN

      (laughs)

    21. JR

      That's why, that's why there's no quotes.

    22. MN

      Right.

    23. JR

'Cause you notice the thing about Chappelle, all the hate?

    24. AS

One word quotes. He finds them, quote unquote, "funny".

    25. JR

      Yeah.

    26. AS

      Quote unquote. Yeah. (laughs)

    27. JR

Someone said, I had a guy on the other day, Rob Kearney, who's a, um, uh, he goes by the name World's Strongest Gay on Instagram. He's a power lifter who happens to be a gay guy. And he, that was the thing that bothered him. He said that he finds him, that, that, that, just Chappelle saying he finds him funny, he thought was, you know-

    28. AS

At some point, aren't we all just supposed to be like, "This is... Whatever this is is a misquote. Anything you're exposed to is probably a misquote."

    29. JR

      Yeah, it's-

    30. AS

      Like, everyone.

  3. 4:064:40

Labor strikes, NYC sanitation power, and vaccine mandate blowback

    1. MN

And then they all walk out, but there was, like, real strikes at John Deere and Kellogg that nobody cared about.

    2. JR

      What was the real strikes?

    3. MN

Yeah, they were all getting horrible work conditions, so they all striked.

    4. JR

Oh, well, what about the sanitation workers in New York City?

    5. AS

      Yeah.

    6. JR

That's what's crazy. Is that happening?

    7. AS

They could bring the state to their knees. Those are the most important people in, in the city.

    8. MN

      They get paid the least.

    9. JR

      They get paid the least.

    10. NA

      NYPD too.

    11. JR

      Yeah, well, NYPD-

    12. NA

      That was, like, this week.

    13. JR

... there's quite a few that are... And, and fire department too. They're shutting down a bunch of firehouses-

    14. NA

      Why?

    15. JR

... 'cause they don't want to get vaccinated. It's crazy, man.

    16. AS

      Sanitation is striking over that?

    17. JR

Yeah. Th- the- the- va- vaccination-

    18. AS

      They have-

    19. JR

      ... mandates.

    20. AS

      ... the utmost power.

    21. MN

      Yes.

    22. AS

'Cause also, you got to train to come in. You, anybody can be a teacher.

  4. 4:405:59

Rats, subway horror stories, and how hard it is to climb out of trouble

    1. JR

I lived in New York when it went really bad in the '90s. In the '90s, there was a sanitation strike that lasted a long time, and there was fucking six-foot piles of garbage.

    2. MN

      Oh, wow.

    3. AS

      Is that every night? (burps)

    4. MN

      Yeah, it feels like that.

    5. AS

      Ugh.

    6. MN

      Damn.

    7. AS

It's like the... It moves. You ever see the movies?

    8. MN

      Oh, the rats.

    9. NA

      Yeah, with the rats.

    10. MN

      And the hobos.

    11. JR

      The rats are insane.

    12. MN

      They're insane.

    13. JR

The rats are just running around. The... You ever seen that documentary on Netflix, Rats?

    14. AS

      Yeah.

    15. JR

      Woo!

    16. MN

No, I can't watch that shit.

    17. NA

      That's awesome.

    18. JR

      Oof.

    19. NA

      It's good stuff.

    20. JR

When you find out how many rats are actually in New York City-

    21. AS

      Yeah.

    22. JR

... and you're like, "Oh, my God." The same biomass-

    23. NA

      There's rivers.

    24. JR

... as people, if not more.

    25. AS

      Ugh.

    26. JR

      Yeah.

    27. MN

      Ugh.

    28. JR

      Yeah, imagine. All-

    29. MN

You ever jump down on the tracks before on the subway?

    30. JR

      No.

  5. 5:598:42

Muscle-ups, parkour fails, and watching high-risk climbing videos

    1. JR

You ever see that thing that people do in a bar called a muscle-up?... where you, like, you, you, you start from a hanging sit up and then you push all the way up?

    2. AS

      Yeah, yeah.

    3. MN

      Oh.

    4. JR

      Fucking very hard to do.

    5. MN

      Insane.

    6. AS

You see that guy fall off the building who tried to do it but he couldn't 'cause there's nothing to grab onto?

    7. MN

      Who? What?

    8. JR

      No.

    9. AS

      In Tokyo or wherever?

    10. JR

      No.

    11. MN

      What?

    12. AS

Yeah. He tried to do pull-ups, you know, the parkour pull-ups and then he was like-

    13. JR

      No.

    14. AS

... couldn't do the last one and he was like-

    15. JR

      Oh, my God.

    16. AS

      ... "Ah, shit."

    17. JR

      And fell?

    18. AS

And you see him go, "What am I gonna do?" And then he just, like ... The guy's filming from across the, the way and he just like try... (laughs) Nope, and then falls.

    19. JR

      Yes.

    20. MN

      Oh.

    21. JR

Yeah. There was those dudes that were taking pictures, like filming themselves, like Russian kids.

    22. AS

      Yeah.

    23. JR

They got on ... I think his was, his was on like a crane. He went to like the edge of a crane. His arms just gave out so he- Oh, Ari's gonna show it to us.

    24. AS

He hung there for like a minute.

    25. JR

      Ari loves-

    26. AS

Here, let me, let me put that on for you.

    27. JR

I mean, uh, Jamie's gonna show it to us.

    28. MN

      That's a big TV.

    29. AS

      It's a big TV.

    30. JR

      Oh, God. (gasps)

  6. 8:4212:14

Skydiving skepticism, parachute deaths, and freak survival falls

    1. JR

The worst one I ever saw was these people on a bridge and this guy in a flight suit was timing it where he was gonna fly through the bridge and he missed it and he slams right into the side of the bridge-

    2. AS

      Oh.

    3. JR

      ... with this loud clang.

    4. AS

      That, oh-

    5. MN

      Wait, this is him?

    6. AS

Oh. (laughs) That was you guys. He's like, "Watch this."

    7. MN

      From the '20s.

    8. AS

      Check this shit out.

    9. MN

      What is this, late '80s?

    10. AS

      1912.

    11. JR

Look at that thing. It's like a blanket.

    12. AS

      The Eiffel Tower looked-

    13. MN

      Oh, it's gorgeous.

    14. JR

That guy was suicidal. He just wanted everybody to watch.

    15. AS

I mean, he got a permit for this.

    16. JR

Ooh, what kind of permits did they have back ... Oh, Jesus.

    17. AS

      (laughs)

    18. MN

      (laughs)

    19. JR

      Oh, my God.

    20. MN

      Oh.

    21. AS

      That was the wrong brother.

    22. JR

No, look at ... Go, go back to what it says. Look at this. "The parachute failed to deploy and he plummeted 187 feet to his death. His right leg and arm were crushed, his skull and spine broken and he was seen bleeding from his mouth, nose and ears."

    23. AS

He didn't even a little bit get it.

    24. MN

      No.

    25. JR

      Yeah.

    26. MN

      No glide at all.

    27. AS

No, no. R- rewind it a little.

    28. MN

      No chill.

    29. AS

I think they drag him away. I don't think there was any like, "Don't move him."

    30. JR

For real? That's how they did it back then.

  7. 12:1417:57

Suicide bridge talk, surviving huge falls, and action-movie references

    1. MN

You ever seen the Bridge, The Bridge documentary where the guys jump off the bridge?

    2. SG

      It's called the bridge.

    3. JR

      Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

    4. SG

      Of San Francisco.

    5. JR

Oh, yeah. A friend of mine just did that.

    6. SG

      He died?

    7. JR

Yeah. He just committed suicide there, yeah.

    8. SG

      Donnell Rawlings? Off that bridge.

    9. JR

A guy I've known for... No, Donnell's alive.

    10. SG

      (laughs)

    11. Oh.

    12. JR

Guy I've known for, uh, more then 20 years, yeah. Damn. Yeah.

    13. SG

And that's the ba- bridge he picked?

    14. JR

Yeah, that's the one. Parachute plummets through roof into kitchen of California house. (laughs) Man survived the fall after his chute failed to open. Wow.

    15. SG

      Wow, in the kitchen.

    16. JR

Mm, interesting. That one in New York with the guy falling off, over- onto the car.

    17. SG

      Oh, that was crazy.

    18. JR

      Whoa.

    19. SG

      Yeah, nine stories.

    20. JR

How did he... All he had was, like, a busted arm. You see that? Yeah, he had a Tom Segura arm.

    21. SG

      (laughs)

    22. JR

Yeah. Everyone's like, "Stop moving," but he's so shook over there like, "Ah, ah, doh!"

    23. SG

      Yeah, that noise.

    24. JR

Someone throw him out of the window? I don't know. I think they think someone threw him out the window.

    25. SG

      Oh.

    26. JR

There was an investigation. He looked like the kinda guy that someone would... 39 stories.

    27. SG

      Wow.

    28. JR

Is this another one? This is, yeah, 2010.

    29. SG

      Oh, wow.

    30. JR

Okay. 39 stories, landed on a car and survived.

  8. 17:5718:49

Movies returning to theaters, reboots everywhere, and Zuckerberg’s Meta alarm bells

    1. JR

Did you see the, the Mark Zuckerberg Meta demonstration?

    2. SG

      (laughs)

    3. No.

    4. JR

It's... You watch that and you go, "Hey, motherfucker, what are you trying to do? Are you trying to make the Matrix for real?"

    5. SG

      (laughs)

    6. JR

Yeah, he is. He is, yeah.

    7. SG

      Well...

    8. JR

It seems like he's being sneaky about it.

    9. SG

      What... Yeah. That's just... They're, they're gonna... That's, that's Facebook's version of it.

    10. JR

He just wants it to be under his banner.

    11. SG

      Not all of it.

    12. JR

It's crazy that they're changing the name of Facebook to Meta and they're gonna call it the Metaverse.

    13. SG

      Yeah.

    14. ... which is, by the way-

    15. AS

I thought that was also so, like, you can sue me, but our parent company's over there now. So you can sue me. We only have a 100 bucks in our holding. So Meta's got all the money. So you're suing Facebook for fucking evil shit of, like, turning brother against brother, but Facebook only has $100 in assets. So Meta's got all the assets, so you can't sue them. That's what it felt like to me.

    16. SG

      It's a weird respon-

    17. JR

Man, you do have a real Jewish way of thinking.

    18. SG

      It's lawyer style. (laughs)

    19. AS

      (laughs) It helps us survive-

    20. SG

      (laughs)

    21. AS

... in times when we have no antibodies. What choice do we have but to be religious.

  9. 18:4923:23

Algorithms, “watch puppies” mood-hacking, and the Fauci beagle controversy

    1. SG

The whole algorithm thing, it's very strange because, you know, I, I bring you up all the time, Ari, that-

    2. AS

      Yeah.

    3. SG

... you did that thing where you went and looked for puppies on YouTube.

    4. AS

      Yeah.

    5. SG

And then all YouTube would show you is puppies.

    6. AS

Here's what no one understands about that.

    7. JR

      Right?

    8. AS

It's not just that it would do that. It's that it affects your mood for the better. You get to be the person who watches puppies all day.

    9. JR

      Right.

    10. AS

And you're, you're just a happier person during that time-

    11. SG

      Right.

    12. AS

... than watching videos about how everyone's uh, upset at each other. Then you also get upset.

    13. SG

But do puppies keep you happy? I feel like you see a puppy randomly, it's nice. But if you see a puppy every day, you're immune to the happiness.

    14. AS

      Uh, it's all fun.

    15. JR

      (laughs)

    16. AS

      Great times.

    17. SG

      Ah.

    18. AS

Nah, not really. But I get that with birthday cake.

    19. SG

      You don't have a puppy?

    20. JR

You obviously don't have a puppy.

    21. SG

No, I got a cat. Yeah, see-

    22. AS

      Oh, yeah.

    23. SG

... cats are fine, but puppies are way better.

    24. AS

They come... When you come home... Oh, you used to have a bit about that.

    25. SG

      Yeah.

    26. AS

Jamie, play that bit in its entirety. Seven minutes.

    27. SG

      No, don't do it. (laughs)

    28. JR

      (laughs)

    29. AS

      (laughs)

    30. SG

      Yeah, start. Go.

  10. 23:2334:55

Skankfest plans, cigars, and why audiences are tired of preachy comedy

    1. JR

So you guys are, uh... What's the gig you guys are all doing together?

    2. SG

      Uh-oh.

    3. JR

      It's a fucking hell of a gig.

    4. SG

      Ask Ari.

    5. AS

When is this coming out? Is this coming out right away? Doesn't matter.

    6. JR

      It's coming out tomorrow.

    7. SG

      Oh.

    8. JR

      This is rich.

    9. SG

      Pretty good.

    10. JR

      You gig tomorrow?

    11. AS

Yeah, I gigs tomorrow. Norm is the secret guest.

    12. JR

      Oh, whoops. (laughs)

    13. AS

Ah, what are you gonna do?

    14. JR

Yeah. We, we kind of thought we were gonna get a lot more.

    15. AS

      Like-

    16. JR

Like when you and me planned this show.

    17. AS

      Yeah.

    18. JR

We were like, "We'll get, uh, we'll get Rogan. We'll get all the... We'll get Louis."

    19. AS

      We're making a crazy-

    20. JR

"We'll get all the guys." (laughs)

    21. AS

So there's Skank Fest, and we-

    22. SG

      You got this douche.

    23. JR

Yeah. It's just like, ah, it's me and Norman.

    24. AS

At Skank Fest, we decided to do a spite show right ahead of it.

    25. JR

Yeah. We need, um... Where is that? You can't... You have any of that can of, uh, propyne or whatever the fuck it is?

    26. AS

So we called the Secret Group and we're like, "Hey, we wanna do a show, just us," the day before. And he goes, "Let me, uh, make sure it's okay with Louis."

    27. JR

      Oh, you wanted to tank?

    28. AS

Yeah, we wanted to fuck it up.

    29. SG

      Yeah.

    30. JR

      Fuck Louis.

Explain what's going on. You got Save East River Park. What is happening?

    4. AS

Oh, yeah. There's this fucking great park in New York, they're tearing it up. It's like a-

    5. MN

    7. MN

      This whole act is different.

    8. JR

      What are they doing there?

    9. SG

      Ugh.

    10. AS

They said they need fucking barriers for the next Sandy thing, but...

    11. SG

Let it go. Let the park go.

    12. JR

Yeah, but is, you, you also wrote that they might put condos up.

    13. AS

      They're gonna.

    14. SG

      They have the right?

    15. AS

They have, so they put in the, in the laws like, like, uh, in the subt- whatever, subtext. Like, "Hey, if we run out of money for this project, we should be allowed to put in high rises or maybe a prison-

    16. JR

      Oh, God.

    17. AS

      ... to pay for it."

    18. JR

      A prison?

    19. AS

Which means that's what they're going to do.

    20. JR

      Oh, my God.

    21. SG

You don't want a prison there?

    22. AS

This is past Avenue D. This is all poor people, Blacks, Latinos-

    23. MN

      It would help the neighborhood.

    24. AS

      ... little Puerto Ricans.

    25. MN

      That area is crazy.

    26. AS

It's great out there. It's softball.

    27. MN

      Avenue D?

    28. AS

      No, no, the park.

    29. MN

Oh, but you gotta go through Avenue D. It's like an obstacle-

    30. JR

      Yeah.

Louis CK’s new hour, comics’ personal stories, and underrated legends (Tony Woods)

    1. JR

      I heard his new special-

    2. MN

      Come on.

    3. JR

... is fucking amazing. I heard the same.

    4. MN

      Sure.

    5. JR

      I heard it's amazing.

    6. SG

      I was-

    7. JR

And then that fucking sign behind him that just says, "Sorry." You were there for it?

    8. SG

I was just with him. I was on the road with him for the last...

    9. JR

Oh. Oh, yeah. Did you get him to do an Instagram?

    10. MN

      How was his set?

    11. SG

      I did get him-

    12. JR

      Was that you?

    13. SG

... to do an Instagram. Yeah.

    14. JR

      I know that was you.

    15. MN

      Oh, that's hilarious.

    16. SG

      I made him get Instagram.

    17. MN

      He just got one.

    18. SG

I was like, "You gotta get back in." And then I think he already deleted it.

    19. JR

      Ah.

    20. SG

As soon as I left the tour, he deleted it. (laughs)

    21. JR

      What a pussy.

    22. MN

      (laughs)

    23. SG

      What a bitch.

    24. JR

Well, you know, he had a hard time, man.

    25. MN

      He should be on there.

    26. JR

He's, you know, he was the beloved guy, and then all of a sudden they turned on him. Yeah. I heard his new set is amazing. That's what I heard.

    27. SG

All right. I'll tell you a cool story.

    28. JR

      Oh.

    29. SG

He's gonna be mad. This is, it's, uh, I don't wanna disrespect the king.

    30. JR

Don't get the guy in court trouble.

Forgetfulness, name-saving social tricks, and Larry David’s offscreen mystique

    1. SG

      Texas.

    2. MN

      I'm joking.

    3. SG

I have four, I have four.

    4. JR

      So wait, so wait-

    5. SG

I'll fill in the ones that are missing, the ones we smoked, I have four in that. I'll give you those, you have a full box. But I have an extra bo- I'll have them send you boxes-

    6. MN

I, I told Bobby about it. I was like, "I wanna try one of those." He sent me one and then a month later he's like, "Where is it?"

    7. SG

      My head's-

    8. MN

      I'm like, "Dude-"

    9. SG

      Listen, I am so busy.

    10. MN

He's got bus- he's got stuff going on.

    11. SG

I'm so busy. I forget... My, my wife tells me shit, I forget it five minutes later. I go, "When did you tell me that?" She's like, "Five minutes ago."

    12. JR

      I think that's pretty normal.

    13. SG

Yeah. Well, I have a filter, it's amazing.

    14. MN

      Maybe marijuana.

    15. SG

'Cause I remember shit from, like, the '20s. I remember shit from, like, the old days. Like, I remember facts and statistics that I should not have in my head at all, 'cause they don't do me any good. But yet, things that people tell me, like... How many times has someone told you their name and it's just gone-

    16. MN

      Gone. (whistles)

    17. SG

      ... in a second?

    18. JR

      Gone.

    19. SG

What is that? How come that happens?

    20. JR

      I guess they're not memorable.

    21. SG

It's not that. Because sometimes you wanna know their name, like, they're really nice.

    22. MN

You just don't set it in.

    23. SG

      Yeah.

    24. JR

      Dude, I have, like, cousins.

    25. MN

      (laughs)

    26. SG

      (Laughs)

    27. JR

That I'll see them at a party-

    28. SG

      You just call them dude?

    29. JR

      ... and be like, "Ah."

    30. SG

      Ha-ha, cousins.
