    2. JR

      Hello, Gilbert.

    3. GG

      Oh, hello.

    4. JR

      It's a pleasure to finally meet you. I can't believe I haven't met you.

    5. GG

      Yeah.

    6. JR

      It's-

    7. GG

      I know.

    8. JR

      ... been a while.

    9. GG

      Tha- Yeah, I don't think... Yeah, I don't think we've ever met.

    10. JR

No, it's, uh... We just must have just missed each other at every club.

    11. GG

      Yeah. Yeah, like, I-

    12. JR

      Which is kinda crazy.

    13. GG

Y- Yes, and we haven't even run into each other at the morning radio, uh, stations-

    14. JR

      No, nothing.

    15. GG

... where I'll, I'll usually run into comics.

    16. JR

      Yeah.

    17. GG

You know, doing like Captain Bob and Crazy Jim in his morning zoo.

    18. JR

Yeah, those are a lot of fun.

    19. GG

      Yeah.

    20. JR

Are those s- around anymore? You still do those things?

    21. GG

I don't... Uh, is radio totally dead now?

    22. JR

It's not dead, but it's definitely on life support.

    23. GG

      Yeah.

    24. JR

It's just, they're censored, you know? It's... And it's, you know, local, it's only like a, a small round arrange, unless you're on satellite radio. And satellite radio's kinda odd too, 'cause there's the internet. You can't really... You know, satellite radio is, it's hard for them to compete with the internet.

    25. GG

So, uh, radio's on life support, and movies are on life support.

    26. JR

(clicks tongue) Movies are doing good apparently.

    27. GG

      Yeah?

    28. JR

People are going to the movies. These reckless young folks, they don't give a fuck about diseases.

    29. GG

Yeah. No, I, I think even before, even before like it was, uh, e- the pandemic, movies, you know, they've got to that point where it's like, a movie would be in theaters and also, uh, at, at home on TV, so-

    30. JR

      Yeah.

  2. 15:0030:00

    (laughs) Exactly. You have…

    1. GG

ask you something, was this the first show or the second?" (laughs)

    2. JR

(laughs) Exactly. You have one flubbed line, it'll haunt you for the rest of the night, like, "Oh."

    3. GG

Yeah. And it, and it is like the difference between first and second, it's like you don't know. One, it could be tremendous, and, uh, the other one, it'll be like, uh, "You know, I, I, I fooled them long enough-"

    4. JR

      (coughs) Yeah.

    5. GG

"... and I shouldn't be in this business."

    6. JR

Are you, uh, working the road now? Are you doing the road these days?

    7. GG

      More and more.

    8. JR

      Yeah?

    9. GG

Yeah. Yeah. I'm going back to does, yeah, flying and whatever.

    10. JR

You moved out of the city?

    11. GG

Uh, yeah, I'm in Florida now, let's-

    12. JR

What is that like? You're a, like, lifetime New Yorker, right?

    13. GG

Yeah, well, yeah. So then now I'm going where Jews go to die. (laughs)

    14. JR

(laughs) What part of Florida are you in?

    15. GG

      Uh, in Boca Raton.

    16. JR

      Oh.

    17. GG

      Re- real, uh-

    18. JR

      Real Florida?

    19. GG

Yeah, real heaven's waiting for me. (laughs)

    20. JR

(laughs) What is it like down there?

    21. GG

I, the heat is intolerable and, uh, oh, there in, in, uh, in Aladdin, there was a line in the original song when they sing Arabian Nights, uh, where, where, uh, where he sings where they cut off, uh, where they cut off your nose if they don't like your face, it's barbaric, but hey, it's home. That was the line in, the original line in it. And they had to change that and they changed it to where the land is, uh, immense and the heat is intense. It's barbaric-

    22. JR

      Really?

    23. GG

      ... but it, yeah, yeah.

    24. JR

So the original Aladdin, was it a musical? Or...

    25. GG

      Uh, yeah, yeah, well, yeah-

    26. JR

      What was it? The movie?

    27. GG

No, the one that I did, I was in, yeah.

    28. JR

      Oh, okay.

    29. GG

It was, yeah, but it had songs in it.

    30. JR

So, and, but the song, was it an old song?

  3. 30:0045:00

    Yeah. …

    1. GG

would, they... You... After a while they were doing identical plots from one to the next with one or two scenes changed.

    2. JR

      Yeah.

    3. GG

But, yeah, I used to love those. And, I mean, they were the classic ones, you know, Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolf Man. And then there would... I, I would enjoy the crappy ones too, like, uh, The Hideous Sun Demon.

    4. JR

Yeah, there were some bad ones.

    5. GG

      Yeah, yeah.

    6. JR

The Hideous Sun Demon. I, I just remembered that one now, now that you brought it up.God, who, who was that? Who was in that movie?

    7. GG

I don't... I don't know that anyone was known, except for, like, those, uh, D movies. (laughs)

    8. JR

Yeah. Those were great though. They're so... They were so dumb.

    9. GG

      Oh, y-

    10. JR

There it is. There's The Hideous Undine.

    11. GG

      Yes, yes.

    12. JR

      (laughs)

    13. GG

      (laughs) Look at that thing.

    14. JR

      (laughs)

    15. GG

      (laughs)

    16. JR

Oh, my God. That's so ridiculous. Oh, my God. Look at that thing.

    17. GG

Yeah. It, it looks like, uh, like they put coins all over it. (laughs)

    18. JR

Get some, get some video of that, Jamie. We need to see that in video. God, I forgot about that movie.

    19. GG

      Yeah.

    20. JR

      That's hilarious.

    21. GG

Yeah. Yeah. They, they pulled a switch, rather than the sun coming out and turning him into a monster.

    22. JR

      '59.

    23. GG

Or rather than the moon- Yeah. ... it's the sun. Oh, it's atomic, so of course that means you-

    24. JR

      Of course.

    25. GG

      ... turn into... (laughs)

    26. JR

Yeah. They did a lot of those movies right after World War II-

    27. GG

      Oh, yeah.

    28. JR

Right, right after Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

    29. GG

      Well, yeah, like Godzilla-

    30. JR

      Mm-hmm.

  4. 45:001:00:00

    Yeah. …

    1. JR

to it, and as this thing's changing, and he falls to the ground, you see his, his hair pop up on his back. (character grunting) Fuck, this was good.

    2. GG

      Yeah.

    3. JR

      Oh, what a great movie.

    4. NA

I didn't mean to call your meatloaf, Jack. (character grunting)

    5. JR

It was such a great movie-

    6. GG

      Yes.

    7. JR

... because it was a combination of comedy and horror.

    8. GG

      Yeah.

    9. JR

But it was both. It was both actually really funny and really fucking scary.

    10. GG

      Yes.

    11. JR

Oh my God, what a great scene.

    12. GG

      Uh-huh.

    13. JR

Yeah, and completely well lit. Look at that. Fucking amazing movie. Oh, you have to turn the music off?

    14. GG

      Oh, th- that-

    15. JR

      Oh, yeah, I did it.

    16. GG

... that was once a case of like, uh...

    17. JR

And then the face, when his face stretches out.

    18. GG

      Oh, yes, that's this.

    19. JR

Yeah. I mean, Rick Baker's a fucking genius. Imagine being able to do this in like, what was it, 1980 something?

    20. GG

      Yeah.

    21. JR

I mean, there was nothing like this before this.

    22. GG

      Yeah.

    23. JR

      It was so revolutionary.

    24. GG

Yeah. These, these came out at the same time, this one and The Howling.

    25. JR

      Yeah.

    26. GG

      Both were.

    27. JR

I think this one came out first.

    28. GG

      Yeah.

    29. JR

If I'm r- and I think this was so successful that it sort of ignited this desire for, uh, werewolf movies.

    30. GG

Oh, and then there's, uh, a dopey horror film that I, I think it's called The Beast Within.

  5. 1:00:001:15:00

    Yeah, I would think…

    1. JR

    2. GG

Yeah, I would think so. Maybe, maybe it was, could've been even in the '60s. I don't know when Improv started.

    3. JR

And then Catch a Rising Star came after that. That was the first place I did in the city.

    4. GG

      Yeah.

    5. JR

And then, um, there was all the other ones, you know, The Cellar and, uh-

    6. GG

      Oh, yeah.

    7. JR

      ... Dangerfield's. I heard Dangerfield's went under recently.

    8. GG

Oh, yes, just recently. I was in New York, and we were in a cab, and I looked out the window, and there's that big awning of Dangerfield's, and it said, like, "Room," uh, you know, "space for rent."

    9. JR

      Isn't that crazy?

    10. GG

      Yeah.

    11. JR

That place was always so weird. Like, it was never really packed.

    12. GG

      Yes.

    13. JR

But it was a great room.

    14. GG

      Yeah.

    15. JR

      It was an amazing room.

    16. GG

Like, I'm wondering if his mob (laughs) friends were doing business there.

    17. JR

      Most likely. It's, I mean-

    18. GG

Well, that, another thing I always thought mob, uh, Grandpa Munster-

    19. JR

      Yes.

    20. GG

      ... had his own restaurant.

    21. JR

      Yeah, Grandpa's.

    22. GG

      And, yeah.

    23. JR

      It was in Staten Island.

    24. GG

And, and that place, I, I always think, uh, "Eh, I'm-

    25. JR

      Maybe.

    26. GG

      ... sure, yeah." (laughs)

    27. JR

      Yeah. (laughs)

    28. GG

      Oh, and-

    29. JR

      They knew some friends.

    30. GG

And, and, uh, uh, the chief from, uh, Gilligan's Island. He ha- he had his own restaurant.

  6. 1:15:001:28:08

    Yes. …

    1. GG

people the news." And it's like, if it's a b- I, I, I, it, I understood it exactly, 'cause if it's a bit you've been doing for a while, you know, like, rah-nah-nah-nah-nah-nah-nah-nah-nah-nah, and then you gotta go, "Oh, wait, wait. Let me actually, uh, perform this." (laughs) Rather than-

    2. JR

      Yes.

    3. GG

      ... yeah.

    4. JR

Yeah. Well, you got... The thing about comedy to me has always been, if I care about what I'm saying, then it's gonna be good.

    5. GG

      Yeah.

    6. JR

But if I don't care about what I'm saying, I'm, it's g- the audience are gonna know.

    7. GG

      Yeah.

    8. JR

      They smell it.

    9. GG

      Yeah.

    10. JR

      They smell it. Right?

    11. GG

      Yeah.

    12. JR

When you were 15, when you started, uh, had you been a fan of watching comedy before you did it? Like...

    13. GG

Well, I, I was a fan of just, I was just a fan of show business and a- actors and comics and, uh, so I started watching people on TV and imitating them. And so, when I first, the first, uh, couple of years, like maybe two, three years that I was doing it, I wasn't that different than like, you know, when they used to have impressionists, you know? Rich Little, Frank Gorshin, uh...

    14. JR

      Yeah.

    15. GG

Will Jordan. And, you know, that, uh, hey, you know, which was always like, "Ah, and imagine if your waiter was Cary Grant. It-"

    16. JR

      Yeah.

    17. GG

"... might go something (laughs) like this."

    18. JR

That was a lot of people's act back then.

    19. GG

      Yes.

    20. JR

      Yeah.

    21. GG

And, and you don't see, with the exception of Las Vegas, you'll see impressionists.

    22. JR

      Yeah.

    23. GG

But you, you don't see them on TV. There used to be all those guys.

    24. JR

There used to be prop guys too.

    25. GG

      Yes. Yes.

    26. JR

Yeah. But then Carrot Top became so successful...

    27. GG

      Yeah.

    28. JR

... that like, he owns props now.

    29. GG

      Yes.

    30. JR

      He's the only prop guy.
