    6. BS

      (sighs)

    7. JR

(sips) Ah. We were just talking about how much fun last night was. What a goddamn line-up.

    8. BS

      Yeah, what a line-up, man.

    9. JR

      What a line-up.

    10. BS

      Ari, Dan Soder, Derek Poston.

    11. JR

      Ron White.

    12. BS

      Ron White.

    13. JR

      You.

    14. BS

      You.

    15. JR

      Tony Hinchcliffe.

    16. BS

      Tony Hinch- yeah.

    17. JR

      Wild line-up. Wild.

    18. BS

What a ... wild. Yeah, what a fucking-

    19. JR

      It's a great place, man.

    20. BS

      (sighs)

    21. JR

We were talking about this last night, the weird thing about that place is even though, like, we talked about it for so long when we were at the Vulcan, like it was almost like-

    22. BS

      Yeah.

    23. JR

... one day it's all gonna happen. And kind of we hoped it happened? Or were hoping it was gonna happen? But you never know until something actually happens.

    24. BS

Oh, yeah, yeah. Especially out here.

    25. JR

But now that it actually happened and it's been open for like ... What have we been open? Like six months now or something?

    26. BS

Yeah, since April or March. Since March.

    27. JR

Now it seems like it's always been there.

    28. BS

      The seem-

    29. JR

Like the Overlook Hotel or some shit.

    30. BS

      It's- it c-

Oliver Anthony’s viral rise and the power of unpolished recordings

    1. BS

I mean, 'cause that building, that building has a lot of ... I bet you a lot of dope shit's happened in that building.

    2. JR

      (puffs) 100%.

    3. BS

You know? Like just m- just magical moment like, like when, um, (smacks lips) when Oliver, um, (clicks tongue) Oliver-

    4. JR

      Oliver Anthony?

    5. BS

      Yeah, Oliver Anthony-

    6. JR

      Yeah.

    7. BS

... stopped in. That- the crowd at-

    8. JR

      Yeah.

    9. BS

They was not ready for that.

    10. JR

      Yeah. (laughs)

    11. BS

Man, it was incredible. No one like ... 'Cause, you know, I think people have ... They all might know that they can be surprised at some other shit, but like ... But it ... This is the first time it hasn't been a comic.

    12. JR

      Right, right, right.

    13. BS

You know? Like so ... And he got brought up by Sagura.

    14. JR

      Yeah.

    15. BS

You know, and I don't, I don't know what they were expecting. But man.

    16. JR

I wish I was there for that one. He had done the podcast that day, but I had too much shit I had to do. I had to take off.

    17. BS

      No, it was incredible.

    18. JR

      His story's nuts.

    19. BS

Yeah, he- and he's a genuine dude. I mean, I still-

    20. JR

      Very genuine.

    21. BS

I still don't know a lot about him, you know?

    22. JR

      Yeah.

    23. BS

Like, um, you know, but he seemed to just really care about people.

    24. JR

      He definitely does.

    25. BS

      Yeah, yeah.

    26. JR

He's a real good guy. And he ... You know, now the question is ... I mean, I, I think he's gonna hold onto it. But that's the question. Can he hold onto it? I, I believe he will. I think he'd be fine.

    27. BS

      Yeah.

    28. JR

He's, he's like ... Fascinating story because he gave his life to God like 30 days ago. (laughs) And then two weeks later he has the number one song in the world (snaps fingers) like that, that he recorded off of a phone. One of his songs, the audio that's up online, I mean it's like very highly rated song, it was number one at one point in time, it's the audio off of a video from his Android phone. So he uploads it to YouTube and then he cuts the wav file from the YouTube video and uploaded that as a song.

    29. BS

      Wow.

    30. JR

No mixing, no studio. This little bitch-ass microphone (laughs) they have at the bottom of your phone.

  3. 7:119:09

Taste, deep cuts, and why live music hits differently than comedy

    1. JR

Yeah, you hear about stuff. You know, we were playing, uh, Johnny Thunder last night. Uh, I'm Alive. And like that's, that's another cool thing about having friends that have great taste. Like you-

    2. BS

      Oh, yeah.

    3. JR

... you came up to me, and you're like, "You gotta hear this song."

    4. BS

      Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.

    5. JR

And I was... And I was like, "Okay." And he hit me with it, and I was like, "Oh my God, what is this?" And remember we were trying to figure out, like, what year it was made?

    6. BS

Yeah, yeah, it's old school. You know, 'cause that's, that's what I'll do-

    7. JR

      Yeah.

    8. BS

... every, every now and then I'll take a, you know, I'll take a song or I, I can take a playlist and I go make a radio station out of this playlist, you know?

    9. JR

      Mm-hmm.

    10. BS

And then, and then I'll he- you know, I'll hear new shit that I haven't heard.

    11. JR

      Yeah.

    12. BS

So, yeah, that just popped up on me when I was listening to Jimi Hendrix.

    13. JR

God damn, that's a good song. It's so good and it's whole... It's... It just... It made me sad-

    14. BS

      Yeah.

    15. JR

... knowing that the dude's dead, 'cause it's like, I bet he got fucked.

    16. BS

Yeah, and I, and I didn't like any of his other songs. That made me sad. (laughs)

    17. JR

      (laughs)

    18. BS

      You know, I'm real disappointed.

    19. JR

I only listened to one of the other songs. I wasn't into it either.

    20. BS

Yeah. 'Cause that's the thing. That's how I know, uh, Oliver Anthony is fine because, you know, you, you heard the hit go viral, but then-

    21. JR

      Yeah.

    22. BS

... you're like, "But does he have any other good shit?"

    23. JR

      Right.

    24. BS

      All his other shit's good.

    25. JR

      Yeah.

    26. BS

All of... Yeah, all of his-

    27. JR

      No, it's all good.

    28. BS

      Yeah.

    29. JR

And he writes it all himself too.

    30. BS

      Yeah.

  4. 9:0911:32

Beyoncé’s “mute” moment and what it reveals about crowds (and cities)

    1. BS

Yeah. And it's like people... So... Oh, I don't... You, you... I guarantee you're not aware of this, but, but this, this is a little, this is a little microcosm of what society is. Beyoncé is on tour right now, right? And she has a song where like in the middle of the song she goes, "Everybody on mute," and then you gotta, you gotta, you gotta be quiet for four or five seconds until the beat drops again.

    2. JR

      Mm-hmm.

    3. BS

And it's... So it's like a challenge. So every city she goes to, she gets to that part of the song and the whole, the whole arena has to be quiet for four or five seconds.

    4. JR

      Wow.

    5. BS

And people are fucking it up left and right. Like, like, thousands of people are on board, and there's always two or three motherfuckers that go... scream, "Ah, it's about Beyoncé." And, and everyone's like... You, you know, it's like those people-

    6. JR

      They ruin the moment.

    7. BS

Yeah, those people should be arrested, because they're, they're pro-... Like, those are people that are always fucking stuff up for everybody.

    8. JR

      Yeah.

    9. BS

It's like che-... All you gotta do is be quiet.

    10. JR

      Yeah.

    11. BS

I think Atlanta got it right. Atlanta got... LA fucked it up big time.

    12. JR

      Of course they did.

    13. BS

      Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

    14. JR

Fenway's gonna fuck it up. It's gonna be LA.

    15. BS

Fenway? Oh, yeah. Well, Fenway. (laughs)

    16. JR

(laughs) And if anybody's gonna get it right, it would be Atlanta.

    17. BS

      Yeah, yeah, exactly. But-

    18. JR

There'd be people completely disconnected from show business.

    19. BS

Well, I think, I think there should be a study done on this, on like why, why Atlanta? What specifically about Atlanta?

    20. JR

      Well-

    21. BS

      Right?

    22. JR

... it's always been known as, known as a fun town. A lot of great artists have come from Atlanta. Uh, a lot of great music, great comedy. It's, uh, it's a city, but it's not a city that is... has anything to do with entertainment. I think when you got anything to do with entertainment-

    23. BS

      No, they film. They f- It's a, it's a big film industry.

    24. JR

Right, but not because it started there.

    25. BS

      Oh, right, right.

    26. JR

Because they went there for the taxes.

    27. BS

      Mm-hmm.

    28. JR

You know, they went there because it's easier. Like Massachusetts has that too.

    29. BS

      Mm-hmm.

    30. JR

What I'm saying about is like you don't move to Georgia to make it as an actor, even though there's d- there's a lot of work there.

  5. 11:3222:41

Actors, performative relationships, and the Depp–Heard spectacle

    1. JR

And then if you have an industry that's like almost entirely filled with crazy people... Like acting, when I meet cool actors, it is so-

    2. BS

      It's shocking.

    3. JR

It's such a breath of fresh air. Like, dude, you're so nice. It's so nice to talk to you.

    4. BS

Mm-hmm. You know what they always have in common? They had a rough, rough life before they made, they made it big.

    5. JR

Yeah. A lot of them do.

    6. BS

      Yeah.

    7. JR

A lot of them do. Some of them are really impressive, and I'm... It makes me embarrassed that I sort of dismiss, uh, some actors.

    8. BS

      That's-

    9. JR

I dismiss them as being insane.

    10. BS

      That's the safest bet though.

    11. JR

      It is a safe bet.

    12. BS

      Yeah.

    13. JR

      It's like... I mean...

    14. BS

'Cause, because, 'cause an actor that is crazy...... if they in your life, it's like, they can act, so they can lie.

    15. JR

      (laughs) Yeah.

    16. BS

      So-

    17. JR

And they're practicing on you. (laughs)

    18. BS

Yeah. Yeah. And you would have no idea. You know? If Daniel Day-Lewis wanted to lie to your face, you wouldn't be able to tell.

    19. JR

Bro, when- when Amber Heard and Johnny Depp were having arguments that they recorded, I'm like, "This is peak insanity."

    20. BS

      Yeah. It's crazy.

    21. JR

You have two people who know other people are gonna listen to this.

    22. BS

      Yeah.

    23. JR

And they're both aware of it because they were told to record their conversations, so they're both being very performative. And they're both, like, conning each other. (laughs)

    24. BS

I know. My favorite part is Danny kept going, "Don't tell me what it's like to be punched. Punched."

    25. JR

      (laughs)

    26. BS

The way he says punched, I can't... (laughs) I laugh every time I hear it. "Don't tell me what it's like to be punched."

    27. JR

Isn't that crazy that she was try- trying to tell everybody that he hit her, but meanwhile she hit him? (laughs)

    28. BS

Yeah. Uh, oh, yeah. It was... That... Like, I- I still...

    29. JR

      Ugh.

    30. BS

I'll never get over that shit. Like, the... And the way, the way everybody just let her slide after that.

  6. 22:4126:32

Marlon Brando’s Oscars protest—and the fake Native American scandal

    1. JR

Oh, now I remember what it was.

    2. BS

      Yep, there it is.

    3. There it is.

    4. JR

      Thank you.

    5. BS

      (laughs)

    6. JR

This is what it was. Marlon Brando, when he won the Academy Award, did not accept the Academy Award, instead had a Native American woman go up there and accept the award. And it turns out she wasn't really Native American. (laughs)

    7. BS

(laughs) What? He had Elizabeth Warren accept his award?

    8. JR

She was fake. Yes, Elizabeth Warren went up-

    9. BS

      No.

    10. JR

... and accepted his award. It was, she was f-... And her fucking sister ratted her out, I believe.

    11. BS

      (laughs)

    12. JR

      (laughs)

    13. BS

Hated... It be your, it be your own people that be hating.

    14. JR

See, but she's beautiful. I mean, like, and she's probably crazy. Um, but if you, uh, find the video, it's kind of funny, 'cause like accepting the award for Marlon Brando, and she goes up and talks about... I think she talked about Native American genocide. She was... (laughs) She's a fake Native American. She just made it up. She just, just... She changed her name, like the whole deal. What was her name?

    15. BS

      Uh...

    16. Did he know?

    17. Sacheen Littlefeather.

    18. JR

Littlefeather. She just called herself Littlefeather. (laughs) He didn't know. He's Marlon Brando. He's on an island fucking everybody that moves. So this lady was not Native American at all. So the... Lookit, it's the Academy Award.

    19. BS

      She's from Oxnard, apparently.

    20. JR

      What's that?

    21. BS

I heard the Wikipedia says she's from Oxnard.

    22. JR

      (laughs)

    23. BS

      Wow.

    24. JR

And her sister was like, "You bitch, you're not fucking Native American." Imagine like your sister is crazy and you hate your sister and you're always fighting. And then one day you see that bitch at the Oscars telling everybody she's an Indian. (laughs)

    25. BS

But yeah, but how... But how she fool everybody? She don't even look native.

    26. JR

Well, watch, watch her talk. She kinda does. She kinda does. I mean, she could be. Here, go.

    27. NA

... seen this Coleman Micro to-

    28. Hello. My name is Sacheen Littlefeather-

    29. JR

      No, it's not. (laughs)

    30. NA

... and I'm Apache, and I'm president of the National Native American Affirmative Image Committee. I'm representing Marlon Brando this evening, and he has asked me to tell you in a very long speech, which I cannot share with you presently because of time, but I will be glad to share with the press afterwards, that he r- very regretfully cannot accept this very generous award. And the reasons for this being are the treatment of American Indians today by the film industry, excuse me-

  7. 26:3228:42

Theranos, phone-era media, and kids mastering short-form creation

    1. JR

"What the fuck are you do..." You know, that's one of the things that happened with Elizabeth Holmes, that lady who ran that Theranos scam-

    2. BS

      Oh, man.

    3. JR

... who, who created a fake voice.

    4. BS

      The king scammer.

    5. JR

Her friends from college were like, "Why is that bitch talking like that?" (laughs)

    6. BS

      Mm-hmm.

    7. JR

They would call each other up, "Hey-"

    8. BS

      Right.

    9. JR

"... have you heard her on the news?"

    10. BS

      They-

    11. JR

"Why is she fucking talking like she-"

    12. BS

They got her at a party, like, "Totally," and then she, she gets on the, on the stage and she's like...

    13. JR

"We're really excited to bring you-"

    14. BS

      (laughs) Right.

    15. JR

"... the most amazing blood data research from a drop of blood." That story is so wild. Have you listened to the Dropout podcast series?

    16. BS

      No.

    17. JR

      It's really good.

    18. BS

      No.

    19. JR

      It's really good.

    20. BS

But they made some real good... There, it's some great documentaries on YouTube that are made by, like, one person, you know?

    21. JR

      Oh, yeah.

    22. BS

That's the way I learned about it.

    23. JR

Oh, yeah. I mean, you can, I mean, you can do amazing stuff with your phone today.

    24. BS

      Oh, yeah.

    25. JR

And just edit it all on your phone and upload it to YouTube.

    26. BS

      I know.

    27. JR

      It's a wild time.

    28. BS

You ever try that shit though? You g-

    29. JR

No, I don't have the time.

    30. BS

I'm like these, these kids have-

  8. 28:4231:45

Slang, TikTok acceleration, and attention-span programming

    1. JR

Well, it's always fun to check in on the young generation, like, "What, what are you guys into?"

    2. BS

      (laughs)

    3. JR

"What is that, what does that mean? What does 'cap' mean?"

    4. BS

      (laughs)

    5. JR

      (laughs)

    6. BS

"No cap, what does that mean?"

    7. JR

      Oh, 'ca-'

    8. BS

That means "no bullshit." Why don't you just say "no bullshit"? Why do you have to have a new word for "no bullshit"? Oh, well, yeah, 'cause "cap", 'cause "cap" could also just mean lie.

    9. JR

      Right.

    10. BS

      Yeah.

    11. JR

      Right. How'd that happen?

    12. BS

      I have-

    13. JR

      How did "cap" become lie?

    14. BS

I don't know the originate, the origination of it, honestly.

    15. JR

I found out from Schultze. I heard Schultze talk about it.

    16. BS

      Yeah.

    17. JR

He goes, "Cap." I go, "What does that mean?"

    18. BS

      Yeah.

    19. JR

He goes, "I call cap." I go, "What are you calling?" (laughs)

    20. BS

But that, but that, but that's the thing is like, but cap, see, Black people been saying "cap" for, like, 20 years.

    21. JR

      Oh, so it's like woke.

    22. BS

      Yeah, it's like Tik-

    23. JR

      So-

    24. BS

      ... TikTok just, like-

    25. JR

      Mm.

    26. BS

... TikTok has, has shortened the amount of time from when Black people say some cool shit and then white people make it lame.

    27. JR

      Ah!

    28. BS

You know what I mean? 'Cause it-

    29. JR

Right, it's a fucking shorter window.

    30. BS

Yeah, yeah. It used to be, you know, Black people would say some cool shit, and it would be, you know, pushed to the side, and then maybe 10 years later, Black parents are saying it, and so now it's lame to the Black kids. But by that time, the white kids are saying it.

  9. 31:4535:33

Work, purpose, homelessness, and society’s visible breakdowns

    1. BS

Ma- ... Like, put ... You know, (clears throat) I was just, I was just telling the homie this, but there's n- ... There w- ... I don't remember ever feeling so bad about myself in life until ... Except for that ... The, the period where I was working my ass off just to make enough to go to work. Like, I only had enough money to, you know, to eat and go to work and go home and come back-

    2. JR

      Yeah.

    3. BS

... and go to ... And even ... So even on my days off I couldn't do shit 'cause I wasn't making enough money. You know what I mean?

    4. JR

      Yeah.

    5. BS

And that j- ... If all you can ... That's how I know ... That's how I know living is more important than working. You don't ... We don't ... You don't live to work. You work to live. So, so nobody wants to just work. If you ... 'Cause when you just work, you feel like shit. You wanna die.

    6. JR

      All the time.

    7. BS

But it's the opposite also. When you don't work at all, you die in a different way.

    8. JR

      Right.

    9. BS

You feel useless. You gotta have a purpose.

    10. JR

You feel useless and you don't get anything done.

    11. BS

      Yeah, and you don't grow.

    12. JR

When you don't have a job, like, you don't get anything done 'cause you don't have any money, so you can't really do stuff.

    13. BS

      Yeah.

    14. JR

And so you're just kinda at your house all day just waiting.

    15. BS

But sometimes, sometimes ... I'll put it to you like this. I've never been envious of somebody that's being worked to death.

    16. JR

      (laughs)

    17. BS

But I've walked past some homeless people that laid out on the sidewalk, you know? And I'm like, "You know what? There's something to that." Just not giving a fuck, like, you ... Wherever you are, you at home.

    18. JR

      Mm.

    19. BS

Now, y- yeah, you don't care about the smell. Who gives a fuck? It's, it's pissy out here, but you're comfortable.

    20. JR

      Mm.

    21. BS

That ... If I had to choose between the two, I, I don't know. I have a tough decision.

    22. JR

You could always find a public shower.

    23. BS

      (laughs) Yeah.

    24. JR

The thing is, like, y- ... It just sucks. It sucks being homeless. There's no good thing about being homeless. But there's also no good thing about wor- ... Y- ... Like, you don't want either or.

    25. BS

O- o- ... Once you at ... But once you at the point where you not rewarded for smelling good, you know?

    26. JR

      Right. No-

    27. BS

Like, like, my life's the same whether I smell good or not.

    28. JR

      Right.

    29. BS

      Who knows?

    30. JR

Yeah, you just live on the street no matter what.

  10. 35:3358:12

Anorexia influencers, body dysmorphia, and the genetics/trauma debate

    1. JR

You know what scares the shit out of me that I've been seeing on Instagram is, um, anorexics.

    2. BS

      Mm.

    3. JR

There was some anorexic lady who was dancing around on Instagram, and then I, I told my daughter about it, and she knew the girl's name. Like, Eugenia or something like that.

    4. BS

And is she ... Wait, wait. Is this, like-

    5. JR

She's a famous, uh, Instagram, or TikTok-

    6. BS

But she, she's famous ... She's famous for being an, an anorexic?

    7. JR

I believe that's part of what she's famous for, yeah.

    8. BS

      Oh, God.

    9. JR

Because when ... You know, I used to do yoga at this pla- ... Yeah, there she is.

    10. BS

      Oh, no, baby girl. No.

    11. JR

L- ... You should see the videos. See if you find videos of it, 'cause, like, when she's dancing arou- ... Like, that one down there with the microphone in her hand, that's the one I saw. Like, look at this. That's crazy, man.

    12. BS

      Ah, goddamn. That-

    13. JR

      That scares-

    14. BS

That wig look like it's weighing her down.

    15. JR

Bro, that scares the shit out of me.

    16. BS

      I, I ... So wait a minute. I ... Damn.

    17. JR

      Look at her hips.

    18. BS

Why are you showing me this?

    19. JR

Look at the bones. Look at the bones in her hips. I mean, (clears throat) I used to do yoga-

    20. BS

      God.

    21. JR

... with this lady who was an anorexic.... she, I, um, oh, I shouldn't say used to do, I did it once. I showed up at this class and this lady-

    22. BS

      (sighs)

    23. JR

... was there. And, you know, at the beginning of the class, like before the class starts, people are, like, warming up and stuff. And I, I, I look over and I had to do one of these, like, like, "Don't, don't freak out," go (gasps) because she was like 70 pounds. She looked like that lady. But she was, like, right next to me, on the mat right next to me.

    24. BS

      Oh, man.

    25. JR

I was like, "Oh my God."

    26. BS

      Is she doing jujitsu?

    27. JR

      No, no, no. Yoga.

    28. BS

      Oh, oh-

    29. JR

      (laughs)

    30. BS

... okay. (laughs) I was about to say, I was about to say, get her out of there!

Combat sports realities: kicks, liver shots, and fighters aging out

    1. BS

(laughs) Yo, you could g- (laughs) you could be canceled before my special come out.

    2. JR

You could kill a regular person if they just l- if, like, their back was against a wall and you kicked them in the stomach, you could destroy their organs.

    3. BS

      Oh, yeah, for sure.

    4. JR

What are they like, a turning side kick to the body?

    5. BS

Especially if you get them, like, right (smacks lips) right in the-

    6. JR

No, you would get them right in the fucking center.

    7. BS

      Oh.

    8. JR

      Like, right in here.

    9. BS

      Oh, like a Spartan kick?

    10. JR

You just sma- no, you d- it's, use a spinning back kick. That's the most powerful kick. It's a, a turning side kick it's called. It's my specialty.

    11. BS

I s- oh, yeah, I saw about this. Like, the ones I've seen you do on videos?

    12. JR

      Yeah.

    13. BS

Yeah, but it, h- uh, but most people can't pull that off with th-

    14. JR

No, no, no. I'm just saying that thi- there's human beings that are capable of killing someone with a kick.

    15. BS

      Oh, yeah.

    16. JR

You don't see it in an MMA fight because first of all these guys are heavily muscled, and generally kicks don't land perfectly flush and your back is not to a wall where you absorb all the impact. But if your back was to a wall and there was nothing, like, a concrete wall, there's nothing stopping the impact and someone, like, really fucking smashed you, you got a real good chance of bleeding internally.

    17. BS

      Yeah. I'm, I'm, I'm really-

    18. JR

A real good chance of having fractured ribs that go into your lungs and all kinds of shit.

    19. BS

I'm always blown away when I see a UFC fighter take one of those kicks.

    20. JR

      (sighs) Bro.

    21. BS

      You know?

    22. JR

The, just the f- you k- you know what the most painful shit is? The calf kicks. And I'm saying this anecdotally. I've never been kicked in the calf really. Not hard. Uh, not like by a UFC fighter in a fight. But i- just the, just getting hi- m- massaging your calves fucking hurts like hell.

    23. BS

      Yeah.

    24. JR

These guys are kicking each other in the calf and it deadens your calf where you can't walk right and so then you gotta kind of play it off, so mostly you're moving on your other leg.

    25. BS

      (laughs)

    26. JR

And you see it in guys. You see it, like, right away. Like Poatan, Alex Pereira, he's the best I've ever seen at that. I've ever seen. He's the best at it.

    27. BS

      The calf kick?

    28. JR

Oh, he's so sneaky. And Izzy, he got Izzy in the first fight and he was getting Izzy in the second fight with it and Izzy's like, "Goddamn, this motherfucker's getting me again." Like, right before he cracked him. He was catching him in that leg and he was deadening that leg and that's what fucked Izzy up in the first fight. He couldn't get away from him. He couldn't ... His leg wouldn't move.

    29. BS

      Oh.

    30. JR

He had kicked his left calf so many times, the whole thing was just useless. Who, and Izzy's (microphone thumps) just a great athlete, so he's moving around on it and you can't tell that much.
