- JRJoe Rogan
Joe Rogan, how are you?
- RBRalph Barbosa
What's up, young gun? How are you?
- JRJoe Rogan
What's up, man?
- RBRalph Barbosa
Ralph Barboza on the way up. What's happening? (laughs) Hey, it's good to be here.
- JRJoe Rogan
(laughs) Good to have you, man. I hear good things about you. I was just talking to Brian Simpson about you today.
- RBRalph Barbosa
Oh, I'm a huge Brian Simpson fan.
- JRJoe Rogan
I love that dude.
- RBRalph Barbosa
Yeah, he's cool.
- JRJoe Rogan
We were working out today and he was just saying great things about you.
- RBRalph Barbosa
No offense to Brian Simpson, but he works out?
- JRJoe Rogan
(laughs)
- RBRalph Barbosa
(laughs) I never, I never thought-
- JRJoe Rogan
Oh, shit. (laughs)
- RBRalph Barbosa
... I'd hear, like, that sentence.
- JRJoe Rogan
He does now.
- RBRalph Barbosa
Aye, hell yeah.
- JRJoe Rogan
He's, yeah, he's been working out with me for three weeks now. I got, like, a little comedy boot camp going on over here.
- RBRalph Barbosa
Yeah?
- JRJoe Rogan
Yeah.
- RBRalph Barbosa
That's-
- JRJoe Rogan
Yeah, Shane Gillis, Duncan Trussell, Hasan Ahmad, Brian Simpson, and me, we, uh, get together and put, get some workouts in.
- RBRalph Barbosa
All those guys are, uh, are living down here?
- JRJoe Rogan
Yeah, they're all living down here.
- RBRalph Barbosa
That's dope, man.
- JRJoe Rogan
Yeah, it's dope.
- RBRalph Barbosa
Austin's pretty dope.
- JRJoe Rogan
Austin's dope right now.
- 15:00 – 30:00
I bet. …
- JRJoe Rogan
best things ever for, uh, relieving, like, uh, tension. Like, if you're fucking tense, just like you got too much going on in your world, man, you just put on some good tunes. I have a Wu-Tang playlist-
- RBRalph Barbosa
I bet.
- JRJoe Rogan
... that I play when I hit the bag.
- RBRalph Barbosa
I, I would, uh-
- JRJoe Rogan
Oh.
- RBRalph Barbosa
I'd go, like, early, like, early in the morning for, like, private sessions.
- JRJoe Rogan
Mm-hmm.
- RBRalph Barbosa
And, uh, that's when I would put on some Wu-Tang, some RZA.
- JRJoe Rogan
Mm-hmm.
- RBRalph Barbosa
RZA specifically. He has that one song that, like, uh, You Can't Stop Me Now.
- JRJoe Rogan
Yeah.
- RBRalph Barbosa
It's like a boxing classic.
- JRJoe Rogan
R- RZA's got so many jams. But for me, number one is Protect Ya Neck. That has to be on every playlist. And, uh, that's like we... when we would drive... (laughs) we would drive to the arena shows and we'd... sometimes we'd get a police escort, and there's something wild about cop cars with flashing lights and you listening to Protect Ya Neck. (laughs)
- RBRalph Barbosa
Nice.
- JRJoe Rogan
(laughs)
- RBRalph Barbosa
We, we've never had a... I've never had a police escort.
- JRJoe Rogan
Gravel pit's another one.
- RBRalph Barbosa
But one time in a parking lot, I had a security guard escort.
- JRJoe Rogan
Ah.
- RBRalph Barbosa
But they have, like, the yellow lights. Those aren't as threatening or as fun, the yellow lights.
- JRJoe Rogan
No, that's not as fun. You need blue lights.
- RBRalph Barbosa
It was also like a, like a shopping center parking lot, so it wasn't...
- JRJoe Rogan
(laughs)
- RBRalph Barbosa
It's not exactly an arena, but I don't know.
- JRJoe Rogan
Dude, some of the best comedy clubs ever are in those little shopping center mall places.
- RBRalph Barbosa
Yeah.
- JRJoe Rogan
Little fucking clubs that you would never imagine were great, you know?
- RBRalph Barbosa
Little Funny Bones?
- JRJoe Rogan
Yeah, man. Shit, there's some... I've never been to that one that's at the Mall of America, but I heard that's dope too.
- RBRalph Barbosa
That was, like, the first club I got to do, like, when I started hitting the road. That was like... Or second club. I don't know. It was, like, November, like early November 2022.
- 30:00 – 45:00
Right. …
- RBRalph Barbosa
like, not a comic. Like, I don't know. My uncle has a, a body shop, and, uh, sometimes there's just random dudes that'll go hang out, dudes that are getting their cars painted there, dudes that... And sometimes I, like, miss those guys, 'cause I remember them-
- JRJoe Rogan
Right.
- RBRalph Barbosa
... just talking shit about, like, just random things.
- JRJoe Rogan
Just regular dudes.
- RBRalph Barbosa
Yeah. Sometimes they're curious about things, and they don't have the knowledge of, like...... the celebrity world or, like-
- JRJoe Rogan
Right.
- RBRalph Barbosa
... the outside this or that. You know, they're just kind of shooting the shit.
- JRJoe Rogan
Yeah.
- RBRalph Barbosa
Sometimes I do kind of miss those convos, but I don't know. I, I, I don't like them getting mad at jokes I say.
- JRJoe Rogan
Butthurt, yeah.
- RBRalph Barbosa
Yeah, so like-
- JRJoe Rogan
I know what you're saying. Yeah, I mean, I got a lot of friends that have regular jobs. One of my best friends used to work as a maintenance guy out of high school. I've known him since I was, like, 24, 23. We been friends forever.
- RBRalph Barbosa
Do you ever imagine, like-
- JRJoe Rogan
Shout out to Tommy Junior.
- RBRalph Barbosa
Yo, what up, Tommy Junior?
- JRJoe Rogan
(laughs)
- RBRalph Barbosa
Do you ever imagine, like, going back to something like that? Like-
- JRJoe Rogan
To, like, regular life?
- RBRalph Barbosa
Yeah. Do you ever-
- JRJoe Rogan
Yeah.
- RBRalph Barbosa
... yeah?
- JRJoe Rogan
Well, I think everybody that gets real famous, there's a certain amount of pressure that comes with that that's not comfortable for some people. You know, like, you think how it is, like, reading your comments? You imagine if I read my comments? (laughs)
- RBRalph Barbosa
(laughs) I was gonna ask you about that, too. Do you ever read them?
- JRJoe Rogan
No.
- RBRalph Barbosa
No?
- JRJoe Rogan
It's not... They're not good for you.
- RBRalph Barbosa
They're not?
- JRJoe Rogan
No.
- RBRalph Barbosa
No.
- JRJoe Rogan
I think the bad ones are not good for you, and the good ones aren't good for you, either.
- 45:00 – 1:00:00
Right. …
- RBRalph Barbosa
sentence.
- JRJoe Rogan
Right.
- RBRalph Barbosa
That shit made me never want to, like, check out the Bible anymore.
- JRJoe Rogan
(laughs) Yeah, the Bible was, uh, they think they, it was an oral tradition for hundreds, if not 1,000 years before they ever wrote it down.
- RBRalph Barbosa
God damn. That's a-
- JRJoe Rogan
Yeah.
- RBRalph Barbosa
Yeah, that's a lot of mix-up.
- JRJoe Rogan
Could be.
- RBRalph Barbosa
Yeah.
- JRJoe Rogan
Yeah, for sure people could've added some shit in there.
- RBRalph Barbosa
You religious at all? Like, do you go to church or anything? You follow a religion?
- JRJoe Rogan
I, I'm not religious, but I'm not an atheist. People always say I'm an atheist. I'm not an atheist.
- RBRalph Barbosa
I, I feel like I'm on something like that, you know. Uh, there's something going on out there, but, uh, I, I mean, I grew up like somewhat Catholic, like how most Mexican Catholics are. Like, maybe you don't go to church, but you do this thing all the time.
- JRJoe Rogan
Yeah.
- RBRalph Barbosa
So like I still like, you know, like, but, yeah, there is, I don't know, man. I don't know what to believe. I do want to have a religion. I'm not gonna lie, but sometimes I don't.
- JRJoe Rogan
It'd be nice if there was a good one, one you could like really lock into, like, "Man, you guys are making sense."
- RBRalph Barbosa
Well, I just like that people really like lock into something, and like, I don't know, man. I wanna, I wanna like defend something. I wanna be like, "You don't speak that way about Allah."
- JRJoe Rogan
Right.
- RBRalph Barbosa
But-
- JRJoe Rogan
It's a nice gang to be a part of.
- RBRalph Barbosa
Right?
- JRJoe Rogan
Very aggressive gang.
- RBRalph Barbosa
But I also feel like the gang I belong to, whether I like it or not, is like the comedy world.
- JRJoe Rogan
Yeah.
- RBRalph Barbosa
Just make fun of everything.
- JRJoe Rogan
Yeah. That's our gang. But I think religion helps a lot of people, and I don't necessarily think it's-
- RBRalph Barbosa
Oh, yeah.
- JRJoe Rogan
I, I think it came from somewhere, and I think there's, there's like real wisdom to these stories that people wrote down thousands of years ago. But there's a lot of problems in the translations, too, 'cause they're translating shit from, uh, like the... Here's a good example. The Dead Sea Scrolls is the oldest version of the Bible that they're aware of, and it's from, uh, Qumran. It's these, uh, it's this, the, they had these like, these caves, and they found these big pottery vessels with scrolls in them. And these scrolls, uh, they're all made of, uh, animal skins. Like that's how old they are.
- RBRalph Barbosa
Oh, shit.
- JRJoe Rogan
That was their paper. They wrote on animal skins. And the, one of the ways that they figured out, they had to put it all together again, and a lot of it was crumpled and falling apart. And so they had to do DNA testing so that they could figure out, okay, this sample, these samples are all from this cow, and so we'll put these here. And it took, it took them fucking years and years and years to do this. And out of, after 14 years of deciphering it, there was this one guy, his name is John Marco Allegro, and he was, uh, uh, he was a p- an ordained minister, but he was also agnostic because when he studied theology, the more he started studying it, the more he's like, "Wait a minute, what the fuck is, how come this is so much different than this? And what's the origins of these words, and where does this all come from?" So this guy studies this Dead Sea Scrolls for 14 years, and then he writes a book called The Sacred Mushroom and the Cross, and he said that the whole Christian religion was really about psychedelic mushrooms and fertility rituals, that these people had hidden all of these stories in these allegories and in these tales. They'd hidden all this information on what to do and when to do it. And that all, like it's a very, very controversial book, but that all of the, like even-
- 1:00:00 – 1:06:12
Oh, nice. …
- RBRalph Barbosa
like, you know, made sure that they lived there. He got out of prison like 2019 and he went back to like painting cars, working on cars, started saving money, started doing like contractor jobs, started his own business. Now he does like pretty big business, contract-type work with a couple other guys that have their own business. And he like built his dream house-
- JRJoe Rogan
Oh, nice.
- RBRalph Barbosa
... on that land. No more trailer home. He gave the trailer home to my cousin and they moved it like further back on the next piece of land so, you know, now he has to like start his own little journey or whatever.
- JRJoe Rogan
Nice.
- RBRalph Barbosa
But he built that, uh, he built that house and it's nice, man. I started building a house on that land as well before my cousin's house so I could like outshine my cousin's house.
- JRJoe Rogan
(laughs)
- RBRalph Barbosa
But it's not done. But my house is purely ... Like, I'm not even looking forward to ... I'm not even trying too much right now to like actually build a house and be like, "This is how I want my kitchen and living room." Not even worried about it. The h- Where I'm ... The living compartment is on the upstairs. I'm worried about the downstairs, 'cause that's gonna be like my shop. I used to paint cars and I wanna, I wanna do that in my free time again.
- JRJoe Rogan
What kind of painting?
- RBRalph Barbosa
... like, uh, I was, I was still very much, like-
- JRJoe Rogan
Like artistic painting, you mean?
- RBRalph Barbosa
No, like, you know, paint the cars, like-
- JRJoe Rogan
Right.
- RBRalph Barbosa
... paint them blue, paint them red, you know.
- JRJoe Rogan
Oh, just painting cars.
- RBRalph Barbosa
Yeah.
- JRJoe Rogan
Painting cars.
- RBRalph Barbosa
Detailing them afterwards, you know?
- JRJoe Rogan
Oh, okay.
- RBRalph Barbosa
Uh, I always wanted to paint candy, but you need a lot of experience. A lot of people don't know, when you're painting candy, you can't just do the quarter panel and then move to the door.
- JRJoe Rogan
What do-
- RBRalph Barbosa
You gotta do, like, the whole sur-
- JRJoe Rogan
What do you mean by candy?
- RBRalph Barbosa
Like, you know, candy paint, like real, real glittery, real pretty-ass paint.
- JRJoe Rogan
Oh, is that what it's called?
- RBRalph Barbosa
Yeah, yeah.
- JRJoe Rogan
All right.
- RBRalph Barbosa
Come on, man. You're in Texas now. You gotta learn about candy paint.
- JRJoe Rogan
I didn't know it was called can- I did- I didn't know that was what it was called.
- RBRalph Barbosa
Yeah, you ever go to a car show and, and maybe one car just fucking pops-
- JRJoe Rogan
Yeah.
