Elizabeth Holmes trailer: unsettling interviews and the “fake voice” reveal

    1. JR

Joe Rogan Podcast, check it out.

    2. DP

      The Joe Rogan Experience

    3. JR

Train by day, Joe Rogan Podcast by night. All day. [upbeat music] So there's a new documentary that's coming out on Elizabeth Holmes, and rarely have I watched a trailer for a documentary and known within the first five seconds I'm gonna watch the documentary. Watch how crazy this bitch looks.

    4. EA

      Oh, jeez.

    5. JR

      Just watch this.

    6. SP

Listen, I can promise you that. I don't have anything to deceive you on. Of course I'm not deceiving you. I'm engaging with you as a human being. Hmm? Why would I deceive you? There's no, there's no reason for me to do that. Okay. All right. Okay, good chat. Mm. You're being real right now? I'm always being real. [baby cries]

    7. JR

      [smacks lips] Yo.

    8. EA

      [laughs]

    9. DP

      What the fuck was that?

    10. JR

She's the president of the Lindsey Clancy Fan Club.

    11. DP

      Oh my God.

    12. EA

Yeah, I mean, ch- oh, she is completely out of it.

    13. JR

      Bro.

    14. EA

Or like, no you could like see her, like, calculating the right moves to make in her face. It's crazy.

    15. DP

I don't think she blinked. That was terrifying.

    16. JR

      [laughs]

    17. EA

      [laughs]

    18. DP

      That w- the wide shot-

    19. JR

      Oh

    20. DP

... when she's rocking her kid. Joe, that was terrifying.

    21. EA

      Oh.

    22. JR

Oh, no, the, it's the baby crying-

    23. EA

      Oh

    24. JR

... at the beginning. When you realize there's a baby in there.

    25. EA

      Her eyes are so big.

    26. JR

      I know.

    27. EA

They're so big. Like, that's, you see all of the pupil.

    28. JR

      Yeah.

    29. EA

You see all of, you know, you see the whole eyeball and the white all around it. That's kinda weird.

    30. JR

It does look like a snake almost, just like eyeing down, like-

  2. 2:296:35

Theranos explained: how the blood-testing scam worked and why people believed it

    1. JR

So there was a company called Theranos, and Theranos was a completely scam company made by this woman, and she dropped out of college to create this company that's a blood testing company, and they can test your blood by just pricking your finger, just get a little bit of drop of blood. Instead of getting a big draw like they have to do it.

    2. DP

      Yeah.

    3. JR

And so they set them up at all these Walgreens, and it was gonna be this huge thing, and she used to wear a black turtleneck and talk like Steve Jobs. Not only that, she changed her voice. Okay? She changed her voice to sound more like a man. We'll get to that later.

    4. EA

      [laughs]

    5. JR

So anyway, this company, I mean, who knows how many people used their product? And it didn't work at all. Like, literally didn't work at all. So all these people that got blood tests from it and thought, "Oh, good, no cancer. Oh, good, don't have to worry about my cholesterol. Oh, good, don't have to worry about my..." It, it's all fake. It was all fake. So she was the richest self-made woman ever. She was worth, like, nine billion dollars at one point. And then someone from the company who's, like, a whistleblower I think starts it off, and then they start investigating, and then they realize, like, there's nothing here. Like, the whole company's completely full of shit. It never worked. It never worked at all. Like, the, the blood testing, they used to have to get actual blood on top of the little prick. The only way they could really test you is to do it the old-fashioned way and pretend that there was something wrong with the machine or something. "Wait a second. We gotta recalibrate this, but don't worry, we got this." And so they would just get regular blood, like normal. Like, they'd take it out with an IV.

    6. DP

      Yeah.

    7. JR

The whole thing was a scam, and it took, like, a long time because no one wanted to believe 'cause they had this narrative in their head. But this woman who looked like Steve Jobs. Here's the other thing, girls that went to college with her was like, "Hey, that's not her voice."

    8. EA

      Oh my-

    9. DP

      Hmm.

    10. JR

'Cause how she talks there in that video-

    11. DP

      Yeah

    12. JR

... of course I'm not trying to deceive you, now I want you to see how she talked when she was talking at these conferences. So she would give these speeches about how powerful it is to be, like, a strong woman and all this crazy shit, you know, like women in business-

    13. DP

      Yes

    14. JR

... and that kind of stuff. A- and she's talking like she smoked 100 cigarettes a day for 1,000 years. She's talking like a dude. She's talking like a, like someone's in transition, they're taking testosterone. Like, listen to this.

    15. SP

      And a woman.

    16. EA

      Oh.

    17. JR

No, no, no, this is some lady-

    18. EA

      Hello

    19. JR

... making fun of her voice.

    20. EA

      [laughs]

    21. DP

      [laughs] No.

    22. JR

      Go to her actual talking.

    23. DP

      Stop.

    24. JR

Just go to her, Elizabeth. There, yeah, right there, right there, there.

    25. SP

I don't know which one was-

    26. JR

Just go to any speech, any speech where she's giving. Just l- Elizabeth Holmes speech.

    27. EA

Oh, the, the, the first video should real voice versus fake voice? That's a-

    28. JR

Yeah, you could do that, but then-

    29. SP

      Elizabeth Holmes, the convicted-

    30. EA

      Oh, it's just some guy

  3. 6:357:46

Tech culture, performative language, and “bullshit worlds” that enable scammers

    1. EA

It- it's so funny to me that in her TED Talk, in her mind, she's probably like, "Uh, what the fuck? This is still going?" [laughs] Like, how is this still... At a certain point, you have to know the house of cards is gonna fall.

    2. DP

      $9 billion?

    3. JR

I don't think so, dude. I, I think that world is so full of shit in so many ways.

    4. EA

      Mm.

    5. JR

The world of, like, the tech startups and the, the super woke lefties in tech, especially during that time period. I think it's changed quite a bit now.

    6. EA

      Mm-hmm.

    7. JR

People are way more pragmatic, and it's gotten, like, way away from a lot of that stuff 'cause they realize it's actually, like, really bad for business, you know?

    8. EA

      Mm.

    9. JR

But back then, y- as long as you have, like, the right dynamics, "Oh my God, we got a strong woman with a turtleneck."

    10. EA

      [laughs]

    11. JR

"Like, we're gonna fucking make a trillion dollars."

    12. DP

      Ooh, a deep voice.

    13. EA

      Yeah.

    14. JR

Yeah, a deep voice, and she's a wizard. Like, she's just this wizard who dropped out of college who's too smart for college.

    15. EA

      And a female Steve Jobs.

    16. DP

They love that. It's the story.

    17. EA

      Yeah.

    18. JR

      You know, the story-

    19. DP

She's too smart for college. She's too smart

    20. JR

... well, Bill Gates dropped out.

    21. DP

      Yeah.

    22. JR

Yeah. There's a lot of stories like that.

    23. EA

      Mm-hmm.

    24. JR

Like, yes, you don't need to go to college. Look, he's the richest man in the world.

    25. EA

      Right. [laughs]

    26. JR

      [laughs]

    27. EA

It's a really good backstory to create if you're trying to scam people in the tech world, too.

    28. JR

But the thing is, man, that world is full of shit in so many ways socially. Like, the way they communicate is full of shit.

    29. EA

      Mm.

  4. 7:4611:12

Portland bar kicks out “XX/XY” shirt: identity politics vs. basic biology

    1. JR

Like, they have these agreed upon ways of discussing things, referring to things, that if you deviate from them at all, like even, uh, even things that don't make sense. Like, uh, go to that thing that I sent you, Jamey. This is not, um-

    2. EA

      Yeah

    3. JR

... San Francisco, this is not the tech world, but this is Portland. So in Portland, this couple went to a sports bar that, uh, is for, it's, like, features mostly women's sports.

    4. EA

      Mm-hmm.

    5. JR

Okay? And so they, the guy went in with an XX XY chromosome shirt on, and they kicked him out because the shirt was making people uncomfortable. Chromosomes make people uncomfortable.

    6. DP

      That's insane, bro. Who-

    7. JR

      Bro-

    8. SP

I'm uncomfortable with those shirts, and so I'm asking y'all to leave. If I, if I have to call authorities to get y'all removed, I will, but I don't want to do that. We don't, I'm not sure you need to. No.

    9. SP

No. What I, I am just asking if you would please consider the depth that-

    10. SP

I have considered the depth of our science and the, um, the research that went into the rainbow. And I- Why, why did you invest thousands into these shirts? I didn't realize until I, until someone- You did why? There's nothing wrong with these shirts ... I don't look at people's shirts when they come in. There's nothing wrong with these shirts. What is wrong with these shirts? I have had complaints by customers already. What is wrong? I don't understand what's wrong with those shirts. I've already complained to- Why, there's nothing wrong with these shirts.

    11. JR

Look at those people, that, that big lady that keeps looking over.

    12. DP

      Yeah.

    13. EA

      Yeah.

    14. JR

You know that's the bitch that complained. [laughs]

    15. DP

Yeah, I'm looking at her. Oh, boy.

    16. JR

You know she complained. She, she has the requisite shitty tattoo on her tricep.

    17. EA

It is, it is also very funny to go into a women's sports bar with a chromosome shirt, like [laughs] 'cause you know-

    18. JR

      And get kicked out

    19. EA

... yeah, you know, you knew that's gonna happen.

    20. JR

But why? Why would it happen if it's women's sports? Like, this is where, this is where things have-

    21. EA

      Mm

    22. JR

... gotten so weird. Like, if there's anything that's supposed to be pro-women's sports, it's the recognition that there's a difference between men and women, which is what Title IX was all about. Which gave-

    23. EA

      Right

    24. JR

... women, like, what, what is, what is Title IX specifically? It was, like, e- equal funding.

    25. EA

      Yeah, if you-

    26. JR

      Yeah

    27. EA

... you have to fund the women's sports as much as you fund the men's sports.

    28. JR

      Right.

    29. EA

      Right, right.

    30. JR

But that's a very big distinction, that there's women XX and there's men XY. Like, everybody knows this.

  5. 11:1215:21

Scammers in everyday life: fake NFL player “DeJon Love” and pyramid schemes

    1. EA

So it's like, 'cause we were literally just talking about this earlier. You heard about this DeJon Love guy?

    2. DP

      Oh, man.

    3. JR

      No.

    4. DP

The 49ers, the fake 49ers receiver?

    5. JR

Oh, I did see something about that.

    6. EA

      Yeah. [laughs]

    7. DP

      [laughs] That's, that's a legend.

    8. JR

      What did he do?

    9. EA

      Yeah.

    10. DP

      That's a legend.

    11. EA

So he would, he would go on social media... Oh, not social media, on these dating apps, and pretend to be a 49ers guy.

    12. DP

But he would have his helmet with him in his car. So he'd have, he'd be driving in the car-

    13. EA

      There's a-

    14. DP

      ... and you'd see his 49ers helmet.

    15. EA

There's a great video, Jamey, can you pull him up, of him, like, running routes on the beach? It's incredible. It's, like-

    16. DP

      With his 49ers helmet.

    17. EA

      Mm-hmm.

    18. DP

So he has all these things to scam women, and it w- he got $1.3 million-

    19. EA

      Million dollars

    20. DP

      ... out of these women.

    21. EA

      Uh-huh.

    22. JR

      Whoa.

    23. EA

      And, and-

    24. DP

      On a dating app

    25. JR

      They don't have Google?

    26. EA

No, but here's, okay, here, here, here's the thing. Here's the thing, right? He got real- he p- made enough fake profile, [laughs] like he's just out here running routes on the beach.

    27. DP

Him outside the stadium. That's him outside the stadium. [laughs]

    28. JR

He got girls to give him money?

    29. EA

      Yeah.

    30. DP

      Yeah.

  6. 15:2121:50

Nathan Fielder’s interview tactic: silence exposes manipulators

    1. EA

That document, she's like, she has, like, something like 34 days before she's going to jail, and she let Nathan Fielder have, like, full access.

    2. DP

      Why Nathan Fielder?

    3. JR

First of all, of, well, I would be like, "Bro, why are you so close to me?"

    4. EA

      [laughs]

    5. JR

"This is crazy. You and I can have a conversation a little bit further away than this. You don't have to, like, literally by, like, leaning in like you're telling me a secret."

    6. EA

What Nathan Fielder is a master of, though, is getting people going to that place where, like, oh, I think that's their true them.

    7. JR

      Yeah.

    8. EA

He's just not saying no to you. He has no limits-

    9. JR

      He also-

    10. EA

... so he'll let you go all the way

    11. JR

... did something very wise right there, which is when someone says something, you say nothing back.

    12. EA

      Mm-hmm.

    13. JR

You give them nothing, and, 'cause their, their whole game is ping pong, right? And if you don't... And then they're just holding the paddle, "Hi." [laughs]

    14. EA

      [laughs]

    15. JR

They just look, they look fucking crazy. [laughs]

    16. EA

      [laughs]

    17. JR

I just know. You get to see who they really are.

    18. EA

      Yeah.

    19. JR

You can pretend who you, you're different. "Oh, yeah, I would never deceive anyone."

    20. EA

      Yeah.

    21. JR

"Oh, yeah. Why would I? What's the point? I'm going to jail anyway. I'll tell you what happened."

    22. DP

'Cause that's what she wanted. She wanted him to say something back so she could, so she could-

    23. JR

      Ping pong.

    24. DP

      Boop, boop, boop.

    25. JR

      Boop, boop.

    26. DP

      And he didn't.

    27. EA

      Boop, boop.

    28. DP

      So she just stood there.

    29. JR

Yeah. So just stood there with the paddle. [laughs]

    30. EA

[laughs] Looking stupid as fuck. Yeah, there is something. There was this guy, you know, this guy named Vister Lu- Victor Lustig. He was a guy who was a prolific scammer, sold the Eiffel Tower. Almost, almost sold it twice. But he wrote the-

  7. 21:5028:39

SSRIs, libido loss, and the idea that culture replaces intimacy

    1. JR

Look, how... I know a lot of people that are on those fucking things, man. I mean, I think a lot of people, they go to a shrink, and they go, "I... Yes, I'm depressed. I'm not feeling good." It's, uh, uh... If, if they're inclined to prescribe, you're inclined to take.

    2. EA

      Mm-hmm.

    3. JR

It's a doctor, they know what they're doing. Next thing you know, [snaps fingers] you're kooky.

    4. EA

Yeah. And I think we're, we've been so conditioned to think that a pill can make you happy-

    5. JR

      Yeah

    6. EA

... that people are like, "Yeah, let's, let me get on it."

    7. JR

[tsks] And for some people, man, it's doing this weird thing where it doesn't just kill their sexual feeling, like they no longer or- orgasm, but they don't have any sexual desire anymore, like ever.

    8. DP

      Yeah.

    9. EA

      Hmm.

    10. JR

It, like, kills it. There's, like, an, a term for this SSRI problem with sex that some people get. Like, this lady was giving a speech where she was describing what happened to her when she was young. You know, like, she, like, I think she was in her 20s when she started taking it, and then it's just totally numb. Like, there's nothing going on.

    11. EA

      Mm-hmm.

    12. JR

No orgasms, no feeling, no desire.

    13. EA

Do you think that's an accidental side effect or an intentional side effect?

    14. JR

No, it's an accidental side effect.

    15. EA

      You think so?

    16. JR

      It doesn't happen to everybody.

    17. EA

      Okay.

    18. JR

What, you think they're trying to numb us?

    19. EA

      Maybe.

    20. DP

That's what I... Joe, yeah, my brain went, "Man, they're trying to neuter us?"

    21. EA

      Yeah, maybe.

    22. DP

"Are they trying to neuter us? What are they trying to do?"

    23. EA

I mean, we've, we've, uh, you know, experimented so much with stuff like this through our military and our government to begin with.

    24. JR

Well, here, here's the thing. This is one thing that is possible. If you were gonna do something like that, the, the way you would... If you wanted people to be much more invested in, like, cultural and political issues, you eliminate any possibility of a sex life.

    25. EA

      Hmm.

    26. JR

No sex life. So now all of their identity is all involved in whatever they're doing, whether it's being a, a right-wing patriot lady, or whether it's being a left-wing whatever. Like, you're gonna go all in on that. You're not gonna have children. You don't have sex. Right? You're not even interested in it. So what are you interested in? You have to have a team. You have to have a thing. Well, you-

    27. EA

      Right

    28. JR

... do you watch college football? Like, what do you watch?

    29. DP

      Yeah.

    30. EA

      Mm-hmm.

  8. 28:3931:15

Lindsay Clancy case and “psyop” thinking: polarization as a control strategy

    1. JR

Bro, they're kicking people out of bars for X, X, XY shirts. We're, this is-

    2. DP

      It's getting crazy.

    3. JR

      It's crazy. It's like-

    4. DP

We're fighting over if a, a, a lady killed her kids, and there's a fight over it.

    5. JR

      Bro, there's h-

    6. DP

So it's like, what's going on?

    7. JR

Okay, I wanna know how those women knew to wear pink.

    8. EA

      [laughs]

    9. JR

      How did they decide?

    10. EA

How many of them have kids?

    11. JR

How did they get together? H- how much USAID money was involved?

    12. EA

      [laughs]

    13. DP

[laughs] How much USAID money was involved?

    14. JR

You wanna talk about divide and conquer?

    15. DP

      Yeah.

    16. JR

Like, that's a great divide and conquer. H- organize hundreds of women who are out of their fucking minds to wear pink shirts and stand outside of a courthouse where a woman who one at a time strangled her kids with an exercise cable.

    17. DP

They brought their kids. There were women out there holding their kids up.

    18. EA

      Like a sacrifice.

    19. DP

      Like Michael Jackson. Yeah.

    20. JR

      This is a psyop.

    21. EA

      [laughs]

    22. JR

      This is a psyop.

    23. DP

      It's a psyop.

    24. EA

      Yeah.

    25. JR

If it's not a psyop, I'm disappointed in our government.

    26. EA

      [laughs]

    27. DP

[laughs] It's gotta be a psyop.

    28. JR

It has to be a psyop.

    29. EA

      Oh, man, yeah.

    30. JR

That Lindsay Clancy thing has to be a psyop. And by psyop, understand this, it doesn't mean that those people involved all know it's bullshit.

Parenthood changes empathy: rage, protection instincts, and baby-cry perspective

    1. JR

Jim Breuer said this to me once, and I'll never forget it.

    2. DP

      Mm.

    3. JR

He goes, "Once I had kids, I really understood murder."

    4. DP

      Ooh.

    5. JR

I was like, "Ooh." You know, as a person who-

    6. DP

      Yeah

    7. JR

... also has kids, I'm like, "Right?"

    8. DP

      Yeah.

    9. JR

      I know what you're saying.

    10. DP

The ra- uh, the ra- I, I didn't know how rage... One night in our apartment, somebody yelled. Our baby was crying, it's like 3:00 AM. And it's like, you know, we got a, a, a balcony. So baby's just crying on the balcony. I'm just going outside, trying to do anything at this point just to calm her down, and I didn't know where it came from, but a guy was like, "Shut that fucking baby up."

    11. JR

      Oh my God.

    12. DP

Jo- [laughs] I didn't know I could get that mad.

    13. JR

      Oh my God.

    14. DP

I didn't know. And I was ready to kill a guy.

    15. JR

      Oh my God.

    16. DP

I'm ready, I was ready to go door to door to find the guy, to be like, "Bro, you out of your fucking mi-" Like, so I get what you're saying. And I didn't, and that's when I called my wife, said, "You gotta get the baby out of my hands." I was like, "Because I'm, I'm about to go kill it. I don't know what's going on."

    17. JR

People who don't have babies have such a different feeling than when, when babies are crying. Like, if I would be on a plane and a baby would be crying when I was young, I'd be like, "Oh, no, I'm never gonna sleep. This sucks. Fucking baby. Shut that baby up." I wouldn't obviously say it, but you know-

    18. DP

      We all, yeah

    19. JR

... I'd be like, "God, this baby's annoying."

    20. DP

      Yeah.

    21. JR

Now if I'm on a plane and a baby's crying, I'm like, "Aww. Aww."

    22. DP

      [laughs]

    23. EA

      [laughs]

    24. DP

      Yeah, so true.

    25. EA

      Yeah.

    26. JR

      "What's up, sweetie? What happened?"

    27. DP

      [laughs] Oh, no.

    28. JR

      "It's okay. We're just on a plane."

    29. DP

      First flight.

    30. JR

"Do your nose hurt? Do your ears hurt?" 'Cause, like, their ears get stopped up.

  10. 38:0142:34

Comedy careers then vs. now: sitcom-era looks, plastic surgery, and hair panic

    1. JR

We were in a different era though, man. You have to understand that era was, uh, the motivations were very different. There was two giant motivations.

    2. DP

      Mm-hmm.

    3. JR

There was get a late night talk show, hopefully The Tonight Show, 'cause then you're the king.

    4. DP

      Mm-hmm.

    5. JR

'Cause there can only be one king.

    6. DP

      Yeah.

    7. JR

It was Johnny Carson, and then it was whoever took Johnny Carson's place. And then it was Letterman was like the cool guy. He was like the cool late night guy. He was like, if you were like smarter, you went to college, you watched Letterman. And if you like really appreciated comedy, you watched Letterman, 'cause he got like some of the best comics on. He had Kinison on-

    8. DP

      Yes

    9. JR

      ... when Kinison debuted.

    10. DP

      That was a famous one.

    11. JR

But then there was the sitcom, and the sitcom was the giant carrot. 'Cause the sitcom could make you Jerry Seinfeld rich. Jerry Seinfeld, I don't know what he's worth, I don't wanna say what he's worth, probably worth close to a billion dollars.

    12. DP

      Gotta be. Mm-hmm.

    13. JR

Like the, you got that syndication money.

    14. DP

      Right.

    15. JR

      You know, like Kevin James.

    16. DP

      Mm-hmm.

    17. JR

You get that syndication money, that's a different animal, man. That's, you own the show and you get that syndication money, that's a different animal. It's only for the people that own the show. Like I don't, I never got that kind of money from news radio. Uh, but if you owned it, you got beaucoup dinero. 'Cause they played that shit on all these different local channels all across the country. So that shit was on at 5:00 in Milwaukee, and 7:00 at San Francisco, and 8:00 in Chicago. It was everywhere. So Seinfeld was just raking it in.

    18. DP

      [laughs]

    19. JR

So everybody had that dream. That was the big dream. And that dream, you know, well, you know, he's not the best looking guy. Like, fuck. You go home, you're like, "What do I gotta do?"

    20. DP

      Mm.

    21. JR

"I'm gonna get a hair piece, I'm gonna get my eyes done, I'm gonna get my fucking, I'm gonna get this, I'm gonna get contacts, I'll get LASIK, I'll get my teeth, I'll get my fucking this, da, da, da, da, da, da."

    22. DP

Yeah, 'cause you hear way less of that nowadays.

    23. JR

      Yeah.

    24. DP

Like that seems like a, if you were trying to be on TV-

    25. JR

      Oh, yeah

    26. DP

... it would be your whole thing. I gotta get my teeth, I gotta get my-

    27. JR

      Yeah

    28. DP

      ... my nose.

    29. JR

That's why I got hair transplants. I was panicking. I was panicking.

    30. DP

      Whoa.

  11. 42:341:29:30

Crowd work hate, comedian jealousy, and why engaging online poisons you

    1. EA

      Crazy.

    2. DP

But I like that this world, 'cause it's like, man, like Stavros exists and Matt Rife exists.

    3. EA

      Yeah.

    4. DP

      Like, I like that.

    5. JR

      I know.

    6. DP

      You know?

    7. JR

People hate on Matt Rife, but he's a nice guy and he doesn't do anything bad to anybody. It's like hating on Taylor Swift.

    8. DP

      Yeah.

    9. JR

Like, why, why would you hate on her? Obviously people love her.

    10. EA

      Well, pe- pe- people-

    11. DP

Also, you worked that hard to be Taylor Swift. You worked, like you worked that hard to be Matt Rife.

    12. JR

      Yeah.

    13. DP

That's, 'cause you can say, oh, you wanna like, "Oh, it's 'cause of how he looks." Bro, it's hard to look like that.

    14. EA

      Well-

    15. DP

Not to say that, first off, his comedy's incredible, but I don't like that people go, "Oh, it's just because of how he looks." It's like, hey- You look like that. This motherfucker works out every day. This motherfucker, you don't just look like that.

    16. JR

      There's that.

    17. DP

      That, that's a choice.

    18. JR

      But he's also-

    19. DP

      I respect that

    20. JR

... he's really good at crowd work.

    21. EA

      He's, he's incredible.

    22. DP

And he's incredible, he's a great comic, too.

    23. JR

      Yeah.

    24. EA

      Yeah.

    25. DP

      Two things are happening.

    26. EA

      Well-

    27. JR

And he's a super nice guy.

    28. DP

He's the man, yeah. If you hang out with him, you're like, "This guy's the fucking man."

    29. JR

He's a very, very nice guy.

    30. DP

      Yeah. [laughs]

  12. 1:29:301:35:40

Energy budgeting and choosing positivity: routines, exercise, and breaking self-pity loops

    1. JR

Yeah. I always try to tell people, and I, I apologize if you've heard me say this before.

    2. EA

      Mm-hmm.

    3. JR

You only have a certain amount of energy for your whole day. And think of your energy, instead of, like, just wantonly living your life on impulse, think of your energy as units. Imagine you have 100 units in your day, 100 units of attention and energy. Why would you give any of it to something that you don't love?

    4. EA

      Mm.

    5. JR

There's no time. You have no time. I'm almost 60 years old. I turned 59 years old.

    6. EA

      Huh?

    7. JR

It happened like that, like that.

    8. EA

      [exhales]

    9. JR

You know? Lucky I'm still healthy. But the reality is, the time is fleeting. You don't have time. And also, more importantly, time in every day is finite. It's 24 hours. That's all you get. Why, why are you spending any of it doing something you don't like on y- o- on your own will? Like, you're not being forced to do it. It's not like a job that you hate or a class you have to take.

    10. DP

      Yeah.

    11. JR

You, you're not even being forced, but you're engaging in something you hate on your own will, and you're robbing yourself of all that extra energy. So the energy that you have, if you have 100 units of energy, and you devote them 100% to things you love and 0% to things you hate, you will just naturally get way further in everything you're trying to do than anybody who's dedicating 60 units to something they hate all the time, and gives them anxiety, and also cripples the 40% that they have left.

    12. EA

      Mm.

    13. JR

'Cause it poisons it all day long. It floats around in their head all day long, all the arguments, and all the negativity, and all the fucking angst-

    14. DP

      Stress

    15. JR

      ... and all the anxiety-

    16. DP

      Go back to your phone

    17. JR

      ... and all the stress.

    18. DP

      Go back to your phone

    19. JR

... and you can see it in how they progress in their life. They have less energy. It's really that simple. They literally have less horsepower that they can dedicate to getting where they wanna go. So their car doesn't go as fast. They don't have as much fuel. They don't, they don't have the energy-

    20. EA

      Mm

    21. JR

... to make whatever the, it is that they do, the best version of it that it can be.

    22. EA

      Ooh. Damn. [laughs]

    23. JR

      Damn.

    24. EA

      That, that is, that is-

    25. JR

      It's very pragmatic-

    26. EA

      ... preaching right there

    27. JR

... and it's very simplistic, right? I mean, uh, it's maybe a little too simplistic, but realistically-

    28. DP

      No, that's real

    29. JR

      ... there's something to it.

    30. EA

No, yeah. I, I think that's sort of-

AI future: hive minds, OpenAI’s mission drift, agents that cheat, and US–China dynamics

    1. EA

      But it's just, it's just b-

    2. JR

      It's so simple.

    3. EA

Mm-hmm. But it is, like, it is constant maintenance and constant-

    4. DP

      Yeah

    5. EA

... like, all right. If I'm feeling sad, let me go down the checklist. Have I ac- have I drank water?

    6. JR

      Right.

    7. EA

That's huge. Sometimes I'll be sad and I'll drink water-

    8. DP

      Yeah

    9. EA

... and I'll be like, oh my God. I hadn't done that all day. [laughs]

    10. JR

      In, as you probably-

    11. EA

      You're dehydrated. [laughs]

    12. DP

      Yeah.

    13. JR

And you're wondering why you're sad.

    14. EA

      Yeah.

    15. DP

Yeah. Looking back, it probably didn't help that I would also be yelling at you, "Stop being fucking sad!"

    16. EA

      [laughs]

    17. JR

      [laughs]

    18. DP

      I was, I was a bad roommate.

    19. EA

      Yeah. How-

    20. DP

If I'd see him sad, that would make me mad

    21. EA

... how do you avoid it? 'Cause you've always been, like, super positive. Like, the whole... A- all the time I've known you, you've always been, like, super happy.

    22. DP

I've... This is my whole life. My... Every memory I have of me, I've been this guy.

    23. EA

      Mm-hmm.

    24. JR

      That's amazing.

    25. DP

If I still feel the same I do when I logged online probably, like, five years old, whenever that-

    26. JR

      [laughs]

    27. DP

... I feel like that every day.

    28. EA

      Deric, Deric-

    29. DP

I don't need coffee. I've never had a sip of coffee, nothing. I wake up like this.

    30. EA

      Yeah.

Monster erotica and culture’s weirdness: Bigfoot books, censorship, and Twilight ethics

    1. JR

You're literally an ecosystem. You, you have billions of cells in you that aren't you. There are all sorts of bacteria. There's, there's more, there's more E. coli living in your intestine than I think all the people that have ever lived ever.

    2. EA

      [laughs]

    3. JR

See if that's true. I think that's true. There's l- w- something nutty about being a person. 'Cause we're not an individual.

    4. EA

      Mm-hmm.

    5. JR

We, we are really an ecosystem, and this idea that being consciousness, that being conscious is you, and that you are this one unit, and this one unit is just a person. But the person is an ecosystem, and this consciousness that exists in conjunction with this ecosystem, when this, when this ecosystem shuts down, it clearly goes somewhere else. Like, the body gets abso- well, not really with us, 'cause we like to embalm each, our bodies-

    6. EA

      Right, or put 'em in-

    7. JR

      ... and fuckin'-

    8. EA

      Put 'em in caskets and-

    9. JR

      Or light 'em on fire.

    10. EA

      Yeah, we're such cunts

    11. DP

      Yeah, and ash.

    12. JR

      All the other animals die-

    13. DP

      Put 'em in walls

    14. JR

... and they feed all the life, and-

    15. EA

      Yeah, but-

    16. JR

But we're like, "No, no, no, you can't eat me, worms."

    17. EA

Yeah, that is how selfish we are.

    18. DP

      We're gonna eat ourselves.

    19. EA

Get out of this back, earth.

    20. JR

Imagine if that's, like, what's preventing our consciousness from transferring.

    21. EA

I have thought that, of like, what-

    22. DP

That we're not going back to the dirt? Nah.

    23. JR

      Yeah.

    24. DP

Just right to the dirt, right back to the soil.

    25. JR

Imagine, imagine if that's, like, what's ruining the human race-

    26. EA

      Mm

    27. JR

... and we would be more in sync with nature if we didn't do that practice.

    28. EA

      I would ... Yeah, yeah. I, I, I-

    2. DP

      Three inches. For three inches.

    3. JR

For three inches. Oh. But first of all, don't get your dick operated on period. And if you do, don't do it in Thailand. [laughs]

    4. DP

      Hey.

    5. JR

Yeah. Yeah, I, I- I understand. Look, you wanna get a hair transplant in Turkey? Go for it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's true. But- He went to the place where they, uh, specialize in taking dicks off. [laughs]

    6. DP

      Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

    7. JR

Right? This is a whole new venture for them.

    8. DP

Seems like in Africa it's like-

    9. JR

      [laughs]

    10. DP

... you wanna make it bigger.

    11. JR

They might also be sabotaging their work. Yeah. [laughs]

    12. DP

      [laughs]

    13. JR

Like, look, it went south, but I can turn you into a girl for another 3,000. It's like, yeah, it's also like, damn, man, like, three inches? Was this worth it?

    14. DP

For three inches, I wanna know-

    15. JR

      What is this?

    16. DP

... 'cause it, that, was it worth it? It's like, well, if he, if he was at one, one to four is nice.

    17. JR

      But-

    18. DP

But if he was at seven, seven to 10 doesn't seem worth it

    19. JR

... it's like cosmetic. Look, you got a bad hand. [laughs]

    20. DP

      [laughs]

    21. JR

You're just gonna have to make it through this experience. I don't know what you did in your past life, but you- [laughs] You're born with a little dick. [laughs]

    22. DP

      You got a bad-

    23. JR

You're gonna have to keep on keeping on and- [laughs] ... see what's next. All, this reeks of me. [laughs] Maybe you'll come back as an NBA player in the next life. [laughs] You just gotta do your penance- Yeah. [laughs] ... as a micro dick dude. [laughs] Oh. It's just like, uh, how many inches did he have? I, yeah, that's the big question. Because this reeks of me, of a guy who had, like, an average sized dick and felt really weird about it- Oh ... or whatever, and just let it get into his head. Well, there's a- 'Cause if you watch too much porn, your idea of what a dick should be would, would be really warped. There's this dude I follow on Instagram. We talked about him before. He was, like, 6' tall or 6'1", and he decided he wants to be 6'6", so he did that bone lengthening operation.

    24. DP

      Yeah.

    25. JR

And it's been years, and he's still not right yet. He still can't, like, 100% function. He still doesn't walk good. Like, he's, he can barely walk. He, for years was, like, getting the strength back, and he's got giant, god, giant upper body, and his, but his legs are, like, all, still all fucked up 'cause he stretched his bones out six inches. I know, right? It's like what? And the way they do it, they, you, they break your bones, and then they slowly micro adjust them, like... Well, they stretch them out, and then they heal, and then stretch them out more, and then they heal, and ... But here's another thing to take, take into consideration. Your muscles aren't supposed to be longer. You have muscles for this length leg. If you stretch your leg out six inches, what the fuck are you doing to your muscles and your tendons and all the other stuff? Yeah. 'Cause it's gotta stretch out too. How, can it, can it do that? Or are you gonna have it constantly pulling on your knee?

    26. DP

      Ooh.

    27. JR

      Like, all, you're walking like...

    28. DP
