EVERY SPOKEN WORD

Joey Diaz tweet backlash, MMA media clicks, and “where the line is”

    1. BS

... they get me all the time. I'm more famous than them.

    2. JR

      Aye, aye.

    3. BS

      (laughs)

    4. NA

      (laughs)

    5. JR

(laughs) I wish we could tell you what we were talking about, but we can't.

    6. BS

      Oh, I wish.

    7. JR

Uh, yeah, we were talk- talking about Joey getting in trouble, though. He just, uh, just texted me about it.

    8. BS

      How's-

    9. JR

      He's mad at these people.

    10. BS

... how's Joey Diaz getting in trouble with, what, the MMA community?

    11. JR

      Yeah.

    12. BS

MMA outlets? (laughs) They have nothing to do?

    13. JR

Well, here's the thing, though. I see where they're coming from. They're, they're journalists. If someone says something that fucking outrageous about what Mackenzie Dern's derriere must, uh-

    14. BS

He said, I s- I think your ass smells great right now, something like that.

    15. JR

Yes, something along those lines, we're trying to be careful how to, how to respect.

    16. BS

Oh, the, you're talking about the comic, Uncle Joey, said this?

    17. JR

Yes, the comic, Uncle Joey. But I get it. I get where they would ... And then Vinny Magalhaes backed him up. I get it.

    18. BS

      Backed up Joey? (laughs)

    19. JR

Yeah, he backed up Joey, says something like, "And tasty, too."

    20. BS

      (laughs) Yikes.

    21. JR

Yeah, yikes. I get it. Um-

    22. BS

I don't get it. That's Joey Diaz, the great comic, who's commenting on a hot girl in the UFC. He is not a writer. He is not a journalist. These writers have nothing to do, so they're like, "How can we get hits? Let's talk about Joey Diaz."

    23. JR

      Right.

    24. BS

'Cause no one's reading any of our shit.

    25. JR

I agree with you in s- somewhat, but he definitely did do it. Like, it ain't a bad ... Here's my thing. They could say whatever they want about what he said, but if he was your friend and he texted you that-

    26. BS

      (laughs)

    27. JR

... you would do what I did. Look, 'cause I'll show you, he fucking texted me that before he tweeted it. (laughs)

    28. BS

      (laughs) Of course.

  2. 1:354:56

Joey’s texting era and the upcoming Joey Diaz + Yoel Romero podcast chaos

    1. JR

I love that Joey texts now. Joey never would text message, but now he's a-

    2. BS

Oh, I hope he doesn't keep texting.

    3. JR

Joey Diaz is a full-on texter now.

    4. BS

      Is he?

    5. JR

      Yeah, yeah, I'll text you.

    6. BS

He still calls, though. He called me last week.

    7. JR

Oh, fuck yeah. Most of the time he calls, but, um, he texted me this. (laughs) Yeah, right there. See?

    8. BS

      It's Joey Diaz, man. (laughs)

    9. JR

(laughs) Sorry, folks. Wish I could let you in. You can go Google what he said. I'm trying to be respectful.

    10. BS

It's, it's Joey Diaz. There, there's ... He can say whatever he wants. He doesn't work for the UFC. He's not a, he's not at Mackenzie Dern's gym.

    11. JR

You're right, you're right. I'm glad he does, I'm glad he does think like that.

    12. BS

      Hell yeah.

    13. JR

I'm glad he does send me texts like that. But if I was a news website and I was gonna report on, first of all, anybody who's reads-

    14. BS

      You want clicks?

    15. JR

      Uh, yeah.

    16. BS

      You want clicks?

    17. JR

For sure, that's what they want. But also, anybody who reads that, are you really ... You're either gonna be like me or you're like-

    18. BS

      (laughs)

    19. JR

... you're gonna start laughing or you're gonna get-

    20. BS

      Oh, it's 90-

    21. JR

      ... really upset.

    22. BS

      Really upset?

    23. JR

And then you're not a Joey Diaz fan anyway. It doesn't matter. It's not gonna-

    24. BS

You know, if, if you read that and 95% of that is dudes reading it and they're like, "That's hilarious."

    25. JR

      Yeah, 95%.

    26. BS

The other, the 5% are like, "What the hell? What are we doing?"

    27. JR

      Mm-hmm.

    28. BS

      "How could you report this?"

    29. JR

Yeah, I think that's a good number, 95. 95% are sort of going ha ha.

    30. BS

95% of dudes are like, "That's hilarious. I was wondering the same thing."

  3. 4:567:36

Great offstage entertainers: Bryan Callen, club dynamics, and the Improv stage layout rant

    1. JR

Well, Joey's just, he's a great entertainer. And people don't understand, like part of the reason why he's so funny is he knows what's entertaining for you.

    2. BS

      Correct.

    3. JR

Like, he knows, he knows how to be the life of the party like, like no one. Callan's pretty goddamn good at it too.

    4. BS

Callan's up there. Callan can entertain a room.

    5. JR

Yeah. Cal- Callan can take over a room and, and-

    6. BS

Some of the best there is.

    7. JR

      ... bring the party.

    8. BS

      Yeah.

    9. JR

I think that's his best art form, honestly.

    10. BS

      Me too.

    11. JR

I've told him that. I think that your best art form is, like, inappropriate comedy around people who are trapped.

    12. BS

      Correct.

    13. JR

      (laughs)

    14. BS

(laughs) Okay. Who are stuck at a party or some shit.

    15. JR

Yeah, you're at a playing with them or something and you can't go anywhere.

    16. BS

He's the funniest person I've ... He's made me laugh harder offstage than, than anyone.

    17. JR

      Than almost anybody, yeah.

    18. BS

      It's so ridiculous.

    19. JR

He's right there. He's right up there, offstage, with Joey. But onstage, Joey's just, he's on different planet.

    20. BS

      Different level.

    21. JR

Especially right now, he's on another planet. Although, though Callan's fucking hilarious onstage too, but Joey right now. Jesus Christ.

    22. BS

Yeah, Callan just did his, uh, like his showcase at the Improv.

    23. JR

      How'd that go?

    24. BS

He did, you know, Callan, like, "Murder. He murdered. It was murder."

    25. JR

      (laughs)

    26. BS

      "Got killed."

    27. JR

      Oh, that's good.

    28. BS

But I've been hearing good things. I mean, we-

    29. JR

      That's good.

    30. BS

      Yeah.

  4. 7:3612:41

Shaq as a DJ, Russell Peters’ real turntable skills, and what even counts as a ‘DJ’

    1. BS

You know who else DJs is Shaq. You ever seen Shaq like straight up DJing? His giant ass is a DJ.

    2. JR

      Really?

    3. BS

Yeah. That's what he does like in his off time.

    4. BC

      He's got platinum records, multiple.

    5. BS

      Being a DJ?

    6. BC

      As a rapper.

    7. BS

No, that Diesel CD went platinum.

    8. BC

He's, yeah, he's got two. I have- I have one of them.

    9. BS

      That's embarrassing.

    10. JR

      (laughs)

    11. BC

      Jackson Spade Returns. (laughs)

    12. JR

      (laughs)

    13. BS

      That's embarrassing. That's tough.

    14. BC

I didn't buy it. I got ... It was given to me.

    15. BS

I saw some video of him DJing and it's like thousands of people, like kids just jamming out. Obviously high off their ass on ecstasy, but it looked like a good time.

    16. JR

      (laughs)

    17. BS

      That's what he does.

    18. JR

      Why not, man?

    19. BS

      Why not?

    20. JR

      Russell Peters is legit.

    21. BS

      DJ?

    22. JR

      Legit DJ.

    23. BS

      Really?

    24. JR

Like legit, friends with all the old school rappers like Big Daddy Kane and shit.

    25. BS

      I had no idea.

    26. JR

Yeah. Dude, Russell is seriously legit. Like when we had him on the podcast a long time ago, he actually ... Look at the size of Shaq towering over that fucking equipment. (laughs)

    27. BS

The biggest DJ in the world.

    28. JR

      He's so big.

    29. BS

      He's so fucking big.

    30. JR

So crazy. Um, but Russell doesn't like those other guys calling themselves DJs, those like Tiesto guys.

  5. 12:4116:21

Extreme lifting videos and the CrossFit danger debate (high reps, bad form, big risks)

    1. BC

This guy is lifting. You said blood, spitting blood, this is the guy lifting at the Arnold thing. Blood started going everywhere on him.

    2. BS

Oh, he needs to see a, he needs to see a doctor.

    3. JR

So his nose starts spraying blood right in the middle of his lift.

    4. BC

      Yeah.

    5. JR

      Whoa, that's pretty cool.

    6. BS

      Bro.

    7. BC

They did, like, clean up everything. They take a little break there.

    8. BS

You need to see a doctor, sir.

    9. JR

      Ah, he's fine.

    10. BC

Yeah, he got the lift up done.

    11. JR

Got a little stomach and thing going on.

    12. BS

      That's internal bleeding.

    13. JR

He's got a little, uh, nah, it's probably a nasal infection.

    14. BS

      You think?

    15. JR

      Eh.

    16. BS

      Bursting out like that?

    17. JR

      Walk it off.

    18. BS

      Can't be good.

    19. JR

Guy just dead lifted 1,000 pounds. He looks pretty healthy to me.

    20. BS

      Yeah, he looked, he's-

    21. JR

How many did he dead lift?

    22. BS

      ... he's gonna live a long time.

    23. BC

      939 it says.

    24. JR

Jesus Christ, (laughs) that's so much weight.

    25. BS

      It's a lotta weight.

    26. JR

That's so much weight. I saw a crazy one where a dude was doing this squat and the, the bar couldn't handle the weight. And the bar bent, and he couldn't get it back onto the, the rack. And so, he had to, like, kinda dive out from under it.

    27. BS

      But it snapped.

    28. JR

But he was squatting a shitload of weight, obviously.

    29. BS

      Jesus Christ.

    30. JR

Imagine having that kind of weight on you and you've gotta figure out how to get it off you?

  6. 16:2121:36

Training alternatives: yoga, fake martial arts jokes, and buying home cardio equipment

    1. BS

I, uh, (clears throat) my schedule's been so crazy man, I haven't been able to go to the gym like I typically do. You know, where I, I, I work with my trainer and I'll do weights-

    2. JR

      Mm-hmm.

    3. BS

... I'll do mi- stuff like that. So I've been trying to find some alternatives.

    4. JR

Yeah, man. It's fun to mix shit up.

    5. BS

      Yeah, I, I've been bored.

    6. JR

You know, just doing something different.

    7. BS

Yeah, I've been bored, like I-

    8. JR

Take a yoga class, take a-

    9. BS

I've been doing yoga, I've been doing hot yoga, which I love.

    10. JR

      Some fucking Taekwondo, bro.

    11. BS

      That's some Taekwondo.

    12. JR

How about that? You wanna go deep?

    13. BS

      Hi-yah.

    14. JR

      Double knife ambilock.

    15. BS

      Wanna go deep? (laughs)

    16. JR

      After, post UFC career-

    17. BS

      (laughs) Wanna go deep?

    18. JR

      ... front kicking motherfuckers.

    19. BS

      Wanna go deep? (laughs)

    20. JR

(laughs) It's a good workout though.

    21. BS

You and I big you'll take the... I'll, I'll hard pass on that, man.

    22. JR

      (laughs)

    23. BS

I don't want anything to do with martial arts.

    24. JR

(laughs) But here's the thing, it's, uh, if you like, do like, uh, some sort of McDojo style Taekwondo, as long as they teach you good technique, you're gonna get a good workout in.

    25. BS

I'm trying to burn some calories. You know-

    26. JR

You'll, you'll get a good workout in doing-

    27. BS

      I'm sure, I'm sure.

    28. JR

... those wheel kicks and shit.

    29. BS

      Hard pass for me.

    30. JR

      (laughs)

  7. 21:3626:40

Fasted cardio, too much coffee, keto fallout, and the mental game of consistency

    1. JR

Dude, I've become addicted to the fasted cardio.

    2. BS

I used to do that before ... Remember when I started throwing up?

    3. JR

Yeah, but I think that's your coffee intake.

    4. BS

Yeah, you're probably right. Yeah, you're right.

    5. JR

You talk, your coffee intake's up. What, are you to like 20 cups a day or something?

    6. BS

      I was at 12 to 16 cups a day.

    7. JR

      (laughs)

    8. BS

And then fasting till 2:00. The doctor's like, "Let's not do that, you moron."

    9. JR

That's so crazy. (laughs) That's so much whatever and so much caffeine.

    10. BS

It's just too much of any- Yeah.

    11. JR

      It's too much of everything.

    12. BS

      Yeah, I know.

    13. JR

And if you're not having any food-

    14. BS

      Yeah.

    15. JR

... then it's just getting straight in there. It's all getting absorbed.

    16. BS

I'm on all these medications now. I had to get off keto.

    17. JR

      For real?

    18. BS

I'm dying, Joe. I have stage one diabetes.

    19. JR

What is the medications they're putting you on?

    20. BS

I don't, it's some anti-acid, like super strong stuff so I can still drink my coffee.

    21. JR

      Wow.

    22. BS

      It's just not a possibility.

    23. JR

That's so crazy. You just have to keep coffee-

    24. BS

I have to. Yes, I have to.

    25. JR

      (laughs)

    26. BS

I was like, "You will, you will fuck up my entire workflow if I can't drink coffee."

    27. JR

      That's so crazy.

    28. BS

Yeah. But fasting cardio is the way to go.

    29. JR

Yeah. I love it, man. I get addicted to it. You know what I get addicted to? I get addicted to the feeling of having done it when I didn't want to do it. That's when I realized this running thing is for me. It's this, this little game I'm playing with my brain where I know I'm gonna do it, but I wake up, I'm like, "Ugh." And then Marshall's barking, "Brrr! Brr!" Mar- Mar- I put him in the backyard and he's like, "Come on, bitch!"

    30. BS

      Yeah, he wants to go.

  8. 26:4031:59

Sauna vs. steam science, arena cold floors, and brutal Brazil/Abu Dhabi heat stories

    1. JR

Sauna, yeah. And, and someone who asked me about the steam room versus sauna, I asked Rhonda Patrick, and, uh, there's, there hasn't really been studies done on the sauna, or the steam room rather, that show the benefits of the sauna. They're both hot as shit.

    2. BS

      They're both hot as shit.

    3. JR

They're both hot as shit, probably has some benefit. The only difference is that the sauna can get way hotter 'cause it's a dry heat. So the sauna can get... You know, my sauna, I've had it up to more than 190.

    4. BS

      We sat-

    5. JR

I fucked up and had it at 200.

    6. BS

We sat in that sauna in Boston, you're a serial killer in there. 10 more minutes, Joe Rogan was dying.

    7. JR

      (laughs)

    8. BS

I was like, "Uh, I think I'm set, man. I think I'm kinda set. I'm all red like a lobster."

    9. JR

You just gotta go... You just gotta just go empty in there.

    10. BS

I know. I hear ya, but I was good, man.

    11. JR

      I know.

    12. BS

Like, we were in there for, uh, a minute. Jamie dipped out super early.

    13. JR

Oh, I was out 10 minutes before you guys. (laughs) He was there before everybody. (laughs)

    14. BS

      Oh, were you?

    15. JR

      (laughs)

    16. BS

      I didn't know that.

    17. JR

He was there before me. Yeah. 'Cause mostly when you left, it went...

    18. BS

      Before me.

    19. JR

Pussy. Oh, no, I'm just kidding.

    20. BS

No, no, no, Jamie got there first.

    21. JR

Little beast. Shout out to Equinox in Boston, great fucking gym.

    22. BS

That was a good night, man.

    23. JR

Yeah, they keep it at 170. That's what most people think it should be, 170. But if you was 170 with steam, man, you're getting cooked in there.

    24. BS

      (sighs) .

    25. JR

That's not good. I don't think you can take that heat. So, the idea is that the sauna, because it's a dry heat for the most part... I know sometimes people throw some water on the rocks-

    26. BS

      Yeah.

    27. JR

... but it's a dry heat for the most part, and that, that is what you want because that's what your body responds to the... Just the actual temperature and produces those heat shock proteins.

    28. BS

      It makes sense.

    29. JR

      Totally makes sense.

    30. BS

You know what's weird is sometimes in the UFC, and you can feel this too, if it's at a hockey arena, like T-Mobile or the... Sometimes the, when you get into the locker room and get in that crowd, it's freezing.

  9. 31:5935:33

Barefoot running, plantar fasciitis fears, and the disgusting callus-cutting video

    1. JR

... feet were sore today. I had to run in regular running shoes 'cause my feet are sore.

    2. BS

      From the Vibrams?

    3. JR

From, yeah. From the, just the pounding.

    4. BS

      The pounding.

    5. JR

And I don't... I'm scared of that plantar fasciitis. Have you ever had it?

    6. BS

      I don't know if you've got it.

    7. JR

      No.

    8. BS

Get your mind right. Let's go and get on the... There's a reason there's technology, son. Let's quit running barefoot these days.

    9. JR

No, no, no, no. I think it just... The barefoot thing strengthens your feet up.

    10. BS

      (sighs)

    11. JR

I think it just takes time. I'm just being real careful.

    12. BS

      Be super careful.

    13. JR

      Yeah.

    14. BS

      It's a nightmare.

    15. JR

      I'm sure.

    16. BS

Tom Cruise had to deal with it.

    17. JR

      I know.

    18. BS

I've dealt with it at night where I had to get shots, injections in my foot. Horrible.

    19. JR

And with Tom Cruise's it was the same thing. It was coming back too quickly. Like, he, he had a knee injury, right? So after his knee injury-

    20. BS

      Yeah.

    21. JR

... then he just tried to get way back into shape way quick and fucked his feet up.

    22. BS

      Mine was just b-

    23. JR

      (clears throat)

    24. BS

I think from being so big and just running. I was doing, you know-

    25. JR

      Mm-hmm.

    26. BS

... miles, and miles, and miles, and miles. 'Cause I love running. I l- It's literally my favorite thing to do.

    27. JR

Neil Brennan did it on a... He got plantar from a treadmill from wearing those, uh, Vibrams.

    28. BS

If, if you're... They say you gotta work into 'em.

    29. JR

      Gotta work into 'em.

    30. BS

You just don't just wanna go straight barefoot and just start doing work.

Brian Ortega’s rise, Holloway matchup talk, and what makes Ortega’s guillotine special

    1. JR

How about that Brian Ortega? (laughs)

    2. BS

(laughs) . On another note, how about Brian Ortega, man? I don't... On my show yesterday night, it was awkward 'cause me and Brian are super close. And I don't know what it is because same thing with Stipe. Whenever I know these guys, it's like I know 'em from when, when I trained with 'em and I've seen 'em in that light. Like, with Brian Ortega, I'd corner him before his, uh, one of his fights before he got to the UFC, and I knew him as that Brian Ortega where all jujitsu, you know, cardio for days, but terrified to fight. Like, I know him as, as that Brian, and now he's evolved into the number one featherweight in the world. So when I, when he got the Frankie Edgar fight, I was like, "God, that's..." I just feel like it's a terrible matchup, man. I'm telling Heno, I'm like, "What, what's he gonna do?" And Heno's like, "Don't worry, man. Don't worry." And so, on my show, which Brian and Heno listen to, they're like, "Dude..." They come in, they're like, "How are you gonna pick against me?" I'm like, "No, no. I said, my brain-"... went with Frankie just because it's Frankie Edgar, he's a legend. My heart wanted you, Brian. He's like, "Dude, it hurt my feelings." I'm like, "I don't, I don't... I'm sorry, man." Like I... And I don't know what it is. It was Stipe too.

    3. JR

      Hmm.

    4. BS

Whenever I see him, I, I know him as that version of them. It's a problem that I have. I like this gap. I don't know what's going on.

    5. JR

Uh, people always do that. They do that. They remember someone by what they were when they were at their worst.

    6. BS

It's not even their worst, but it's in their infancy-

    7. JR

      Yeah.

    8. BS

      ... of their, of their-

    9. JR

      Well-

    10. BS

      ... of their careers.

    11. JR

Well, let's not even say their worst, just say a lesser version of who they are now.

    12. BS

      Correct.

    13. JR

Right? It's like, do you ever get that feeling when you go back to high school? Like, I... If I'm around someone from high school, I feel like a loser. (laughs)

    14. BS

      I-

    15. JR

You know? This is a weird feeling.

    16. BS

No, 100%. When I go back-

    17. JR

      Yeah.

    18. BS

... to Denver, I'm, I'm almost not myself because I feel like this almost, yeah, almost like this-

    19. JR

      Yeah.

    20. BS

      ... loser.

    21. JR

      A loser.

    22. BS

      Yeah.

    23. JR

Because, yeah. Because, you remember back who you were when you were insecure and starting out-

    24. BS

      Correct.

    25. JR

... in life, and just... That's a normal thing, you know. They always say that about comedy clubs. Like, if you start out at a club, that club will never respect you. They respect you when you leave and, you know, maybe you get a TV show or something like that, and then come back, and they're like, "Okay, yeah, I remember when you sucked though."

    26. BS

      Yeah.

    27. JR

Like, they remember when you sucked.

    28. BS

      Yeah.

    29. JR

I always had a... I had a problem with that in Boston at first.

    30. BS

      Really?

Cyborg dominance, thin 145 roster problems, and the Amanda Nunes super-fight argument

    1. BS

Dude, speaking of people getting fucked up, how about that girl Cyborg fight?

    2. JR

      (inhales deeply)

    3. BS

She looked scared. When she got hit with the first one-

    4. JR

      Oh, yeah.

    5. BS

... her eyes were like, "Oh my God." And God bless her, man, because your first fight in UFC, here you go. This, this is what you always wanted. Here's Cyborg main event, short notice. Enjoy that.

    6. JR

Yeah, that's kind of a crazy thing to do, right?

    7. BS

Title shot, your first fight ever in the UFC.

    8. JR

Title shot and first fight ever. Nobody knows... Literally nobody in the UFC knows who you are.

    9. BS

UFC didn't even have a picture up of her till the-

    10. JR

      Yeah.

    11. BS

      ... week of the fight.

    12. JR

You've never... Uh, I mean, she got submitted by Tonya Evinger.

    13. BS

      (smacks lips) That's tough.

    14. JR

She submitted Tonya and then Tonya submitted her. And we know that she's a 135-er. Yeah, that's her, like, wincing in pain as Cyborg lowers the boom arm.

    15. BS

      She took Cyborg down though.

    16. JR

      She did.

    17. BS

      That weird...

    18. JR

Yeah, well the... That was obviously-

    19. BS

      Ankle pick.

    20. JR

... a strategy. The strategy was to close the distance, get that clinch, drag Cyborg to the ground. She's a 135-er man. She really is not big enough.

    21. BS

But for Cyborg, it's like, "What do you want me to do, man?" Like, there's no one in the division.

    22. JR

What is, uh, stopping that Megan Anderson chick from coming over?

    23. BS

      Her work visa.

    24. JR

      What, she doesn't have it?

    25. BS

She, she, she was here i- she was here illegally or something like that. I know that was the holdup there.

    26. JR

      Oh.

    27. BS

      Some bullshit.

    28. JR

      Lawyers get on that.

    29. BS

'Cause I know, man. Let's go.

    30. JR

      Yeah.
