Day-drinking setup: whiskey, ice, and catching up

    1. JR

      (humming)

    2. BS

      No, no whiskey, bro?

    3. JR

      Do you want some?

    4. BS

      Yeah, hell yeah.

    5. JR

      You want a drink?

    6. BS

      Yeah.

    7. JR

      Really?

    8. BS

Why not, bro? You've had a long day.

    9. JR

Okay. Let's day drink. Hold on.

    10. BS

      Yeah, let's get a little-

    11. NA

I'll get it, I'll get it, I'll get it.

    12. JR

Okay. You want to pause it?

    13. BS

      Why not?

    14. NA

Okay. No, you guys talk. I'll get it.

    15. JR

Okay. Jamie's gonna get the booze. Look at that. Jamie leaves us alone to get the booze. Thank you, Jamie.

    16. BS

Look at that. Real, real pro.

Colby Covington vs. Robbie Lawler: the win that changed the conversation

    1. JR

Get some ice too. Beautiful. So, lot of fucking shit going on, man. Lot of shit going on. How about that Colby Covington fella, huh?

    2. BS

      Bro.

    3. JR

Dude. Everybody better shut the fuck up now. He's for real.

    4. BS

      He's for reals.

    5. JR

Anybody who didn't think he was for real, after that Robbie Lawler fight, you gotta go, "Wow."

    6. BS

Well, the problem is, is he talks so much shit, which I find hilarious. And it's y- you're tuning in to watch him lose.

    7. JR

      Yeah.

    8. BS

Which is, he's doing it right, 'cause to, in all honesty, we like him 'cause we're balls deep in UFC and MMA. But like, my brother, who's not that big of a fan, is like, "This is all he does?" I'm like, "I know." You, you gotta understand though, what he's doing to this guy is amazing.

    9. JR

      Yeah.

    10. BS

And he's gonna do it for five rounds, for 25 minutes, and he wears you out. It's, to me, it's fascinating.

    11. JR

      It is fascinating, the cardio.

    12. BS

But it's not, but it's not entertaining for a general fan, typically. He's not knocking dudes out.

    13. JR

      Mm-hmm.

    14. BS

He's not a lot of submissions.

    15. JR

      I see what you're saying.

    16. BS

      You know what I'm saying?

    17. JR

      Yeah, no.

    18. BS

So for the, for the general fan, like, "Oh, and this guy talks all this shit?" But he's doing it right, because he's talking all that shit, you're like, "Dude, I want to see this guy get fucked up." Even Jon Jones posted, uh, "You let everyone down." You know, like, uh, uh, "Robbie Lawler let everybody down." You know what I'm saying? 'Cause he wants, ev- everybody wants Colby to lose.

    19. JR

      Right.

    20. BS

Colby's doing the exact... He, everyone's playing into his game plan, and I love it.

    21. JR

Well, that's how Floyd Mayweather became so rich. Floyd Waymo- Mayweather did not become so rich because his fights are so exciting. His fights in his early career were way more exciting.

    22. BS

He was a savage early on.

    23. JR

      Yeah, he could-

    24. BS

      He would go forward.

    25. JR

      ... put himself at risk.

    26. BS

      Yeah.

    27. JR

But he broke his hands a bunch of times.

    28. BS

      Correct.

    29. JR

And, you know, and also realized, like, this is not the way to have a long career and walk out of it with all your brains intact.

    30. BS

Well, think, remember, think how good Jon Fitch was.

  3. 2:204:07

Keto, road weight gain, and the fitness math of touring

    1. NA

Do you want... We have, that's all we have left right here.

    2. JR

Uh, but either one of those is good. This is all we have in this room?

    3. NA

      Yeah.

    4. JR

We have a bunch of that, um...

    5. NA

      Buffalo Trace stuff.

    6. BS

      What's the Buffalo Trace?

    7. JR

The, the Buffalo Trace. Do we have Buffalo Trace in the back?

    8. BS

      I don't trust skinny bottles.

    9. JR

      Yeah, it seems weird, right?

    10. BS

      Yeah.

    11. JR

      It's for girls.

    12. BS

      Don't trust skinny girls-

    13. JR

      It's girl whiskey.

    14. BS

      ... with skinny bottles, bro.

    15. JR

      Canadian whiskey and maple syrup.

    16. BS

      No, can't do maple.

    17. JR

      What is that?

    18. BS

      I'm keto, bro.

    19. JR

      Are you really?

    20. BS

      Straight keto, bro.

    21. JR

Are you? When did that happen?

    22. BS

I sent, I sent you and Brian a text. Your, your boy was up to 273.

    23. JR

What happened? Dude, you got to 273? (laughs)

    24. BS

      (laughs)

    25. JR

      What were you eating?

    26. BS

      Road life, dog. Road dog.

    27. JR

      Oh, road life. Yeah.

    28. BS

'Cause when I, when I get into towns, and there's all this, you know, if you're in Nashville or you're in Philly or wherever-

    29. JR

      Mm-hmm.

    30. BS

      ... there's great food.

  4. 4:0710:54

Why Covington’s style works—and how it matches up with Kamaru Usman

    1. JR

The Colby Covington thing is, um... Look, what he did, if, if you do- if you want to put it in perspective for a regular person, Robbie Lawler is one of the biggest fucking savages to ever compete in the sport. He's an animal. And Colby shut him down. He shut everything down. He shut his entire game down. And he did it with an unprecedented work rate. He made, he was punching, one punch every two seconds.

    2. BS

      Nuts.

    3. JR

Which is nuts. I mean, that is, uh, for it, to do that over five fucking rounds against one of the greatest welterweights of all time-

    4. BS

      Hall of Famer.

    5. JR

... in Robbie Lawler, and win every single fucking round.

    6. BS

      Some 10-8 round I thought.

    7. JR

      Yeah, for sure.

    8. BS

I was like, "Oh, this isn't even close."

    9. JR

Yeah, I mean, not even close. I mean, Robbie occasionally would w- swing and connect, and then Colby would immediately hit him three or four times more, and then take him down or clinch with him or beat him up. And it was amazing.

    10. BS

      Colby's striking's not terrible either.

    11. JR

      It's very good.

    12. BS

      He looked pretty damn good.

    13. JR

It's very technical, and the, the volume-

    14. BS

      The volume.

    15. JR

      ... is incredible.

    16. BS

But here, here's my thing. If, if I'm fighting Colby, like if I'm, uh, Kamaru Usman, if I'm fighting Colby, I'm getting a guy like Cam Hanes. If I see my opponent running with Cam Hanes-

    17. JR

      Yeah.

    18. BS

... I'm, I'm reaching out to another ultra-marathoner figuring it out.

    19. JR

      Well, Kamaru can't run.

    20. BS

That's right, he can't do road work. His knees are fucked up.

    21. JR

But still- Yes. Oh, yeah, it's not getting any better. His knees are mangled. He's just-

    22. BS

      But he's doing something right.

    23. JR

Well, his cardio's off the charts too, but it's just, he does different things. You can do a lot of different things to work your cardio. You don't-

    24. BS

      Swimming and stuff?

    25. JR

Sure. Swimming, um, you can do a lot of the-

    26. BS

      The row.

    27. JR

Yeah, the, uh, the assault bike, um, you know, the, um, that Echo Bike that Rogue makes. That is as good as fucking anything.

    28. BS

      The Jacob ladder?

    29. JR

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. The, uh-

    30. BS

      Dude, that Peloton-

  5. 10:5415:07

Usman vs. Woodley, fighter branding, and the UFC’s promotional lens

    1. BS

Now here's the question for you, is what's more impressive, what Colby did to Robbie Lawler, or what Kamaru Usman did to Tyrone Woodley?

    2. JR

It's a very good question. Well, obviously, Tyron Woodley was the champion, and Robbie Lawler was several years removed from the title. So you have to look at it that way, right? Tyron took the title from Robbie with a one-punch knockout. And Robbie's had some, some losses since then.

    3. BS

      Some wars, dude.

    4. JR

Yeah, some wars since then. The Ben Askren fight in particular.

    5. BS

Kamaru beat Woodley when he was fucking woodly.

    6. JR

Yes, yes. But according to many people, Woodley was injured going into that fight. He's had some pretty significant problems with his hand.

    7. BS

      Something was up with him.

    8. JR

      Yes. Yes.

    9. BS

      He just seemed off.

    10. JR

And he's also, I mean, I don't know how much of a factor this is, but he also released a record with Wiz Khalifa. He was rapping. He was doing-

    11. BS

Yeah. He had his TMZ show.

    12. JR

He's doing a lot. And I love the fact that he's doing that, because Tyron Woodley's a smart man. He realizes he's in his 30s, and how much more time does he have as an athletic career?

    13. BS

Oh, he's very talented in all aspe- aspects.

    14. JR

Very talented, very smart. And his rapping's good, man. I listen to his shit.

    15. BS

      I didn't mind it either.

    16. JR

      It's fucking good.

    17. BS

      Yeah.

    18. JR

      It's good.

    19. BS

      Yeah.

    20. JR

      It's not cringey at all.

    21. BS

      No.

    22. JR

It's fucking good. You could, you could see him being a successful rapper, 100%.

    23. BS

He'll be successful in whatever he does after fighting.

    24. JR

      Anything he does.

    25. BS

      Yeah.

    26. JR

Anything he, he's smart, he's ambitious. He, he-

    27. BS

      He's been in 1,000 movies.

    28. JR

      He grinds.

    29. BS

      Yes.

    30. JR

      He's a fucking hardworking man.

  6. 15:0720:26

Weight classes, career choices, and Luke Rockhold’s move to 205

    1. JR

No, they didn't. But there's gonna be guys where he looks amazing against, like fucking d- uh, Darren Till. He made Darren Till...

    2. BS

      (laughs)

    3. JR

He shut Darren Till down. Darren Till-

    4. BS

      That's a, that's, that's a shame to me.

    5. JR

      Yes.

    6. BS

The Dar- the Darren Till story right now... And his story is not over, he's a young kid, but the way he was handled. And I know, you know, they've exploded guys in the spotlight and it does work out, but that... And that is professional sports, that's UFC. But with Darren Till, you look at all the talent that he had and it's just, man.

    7. JR

      He still got talent.

    8. BS

Oh, no, he, he's gonna be fine.

    9. JR

      He's so big.

    10. BS

      It's fucking tough, man.

    11. JR

I think he's cutting way too much weight to make 170. I really do. I mean, he's... That kid, you stand next to him, he looks like a light heavyweight.

    12. BS

I'm with you. And I, and I've always been the guy who goes, "Man, guys should go up weight classes." And now when Max Holloway went to 55 against Dustin Poirier, d- you know, it was a good fight, but he looks way better at 45.

    13. JR

      Well, what about Dustin Poirier?

    14. BS

      Luke Rockhold at 85.

    15. JR

But Dustin Poirier going to 155 made his career. He was 145-

    16. BS

      No, I know.

    17. JR

He was s- struggling, goes to 55, makes his career.

    18. BS

He looks great. I know. I know.

    19. JR

I mean, now he's an easier chance.

    20. BS

I know. Dos Anjos at 70.

    21. JR

      Sure.

    22. BS

There, there's a bunch of cases for it.

    23. JR

While Dos Anjos at 70, though, has not won the title and...

    24. BS

But he started off hot as fuck-

    25. JR

      Yes.

    26. BS

... and he's running into some problems, but-

    27. JR

He's running into a lot of really tough guys.

    28. BS

      ... he's also older, though.

    29. JR

      Yes.

    30. BS

      Yeah. He's older.

  7. 20:2628:23

Jon Jones’ future threats: Santos fight, Walker/Anderson, and ‘nice guys’ marketing

    1. JR

Johnny Walker is fighting someone good. Who's he fighting?

    2. BS

He's fighting your boy who was just on, the wrestler, the black dude.

    3. JR

      Oh, Corey Anderson.

    4. BS

Corey Anderson. They were talking shit to each other.

    5. JR

      That's a good fight.

    6. BS

That's in, that's in New York.

    7. JR

Woo, that's a good... Corey ha- Corey has crazy cardio, crazy cardio.

    8. BS

That's a great fight. Let's see what, if Johnny Walker's-

    9. JR

      Yes. Yeah.

    10. BS

'Cause if you beat Corey Anderson, you're ready to go. You beat him, we're going Sizzler.

    11. JR

Yes, yes. Or if Corey beats him, he's going Sizzler.

    12. BS

      Corey's al- Corey's already there.

    13. JR

      Johnny Walker, Corey Anderson.

    14. BS

      Corey's already an elite guy.

    15. JR

Well, he is an elite guy, but he's not being talked about in terms of a title shot.

    16. BS

      'Cause of his style.

    17. JR

And that's very frustrating to him. Yeah, but that style is fucking hard to handle, man. He's a-

    18. BS

It doesn't matter, they're not in the business of that.

    19. JR

But look at fucking, look at Colby Covington. It's a similar style, just constant pressure.

    20. BS

      Yeah, you're right.

    21. JR

      And, you know-

    22. BS

But he talks a lot of shit Colby did to get there.

    23. JR

Colby does, yeah. Well, Corey's a really nice guy and his-

    24. BS

Nice guys finish last, don't they?

    25. JR

      Bullshit. Sometimes they win.

    26. BS

      Really?

    27. JR

      Yes, he can fucking win.

    28. BS

In the, in the, in the... No, he c- he can win, for sure.

    29. JR

He's, he's the dark horse of that division.

    30. BS

It's gonna take a lot of work, though-

  8. 28:2331:41

PED talk and ‘tainted supplements’: testing, narratives, and Joe’s Onnit cautionary tale

    1. BS

He- here's the only other caveat to that, and I don't wanna open this can of worms. That was also the first time he's been under strict testing.

    2. JR

      Mm-hmm.

    3. BS

That's what the naysayers are saying, "Well, that is the first time maybe little Pico wasn't around."

    4. JR

      (slaps table) I don't know.

    5. BS

And h- h- here, here's my de- defense of that, being a Jon Jones dick sucker. Even with P- d- you can fucking fill up anyone who he fights on whatever PDs you want and he's still beating him.

    6. JR

      Mm-hmm.

    7. BS

What- whatever he's doing, if- wh- whether he's taking things or not, the- you could give his freaking opponents as much as they want to, they're not beating him.

    8. JR

      That's a tough argument, though.

    9. BS

      You think?

    10. JR

I don't know if that's nece- Yeah, I don't know if that's necessarily true. You fill up Thiago Santos full of fucking Anadrol 50, he might run right through Jon Jones-

    11. BS

Talking about that Brazilian acai. He... (laughs)

    12. JR

(laughs) Yeah, you might be right. He might fuckin'...

    13. BS

He might kick his head off.

    14. JR

He, he might throw some fucking haymakers at you.

    15. BS

      That Vitor Belfort spinning kick?

    16. JR

Yeah, who knows, man? Who knows?

    17. BS

Uh, I still think Jon... He, he's just... He's too smart, too technical.

    18. JR

      I s- I don't know. I mean-

    19. BS

      I don't either.

    20. JR

      Look-

    21. BS

B- but we don't... And we don't have to know.

    22. JR

      We don't have to know.

    23. BS

      'Cause that testing is strict.

    24. JR

Yeah. I think... I legitimately believe that what he got was through tainted means, and I don't even know if it was supplements. You know, the big theory was that he got cocaine that was laced with creatine.

    25. BS

      I hope that's the problem.

    26. JR

'Cause cocaine gets cut up with creatine. Apparently, according to someone who I know who really knows their shit, it was de- I mean, this is not... An ex- this is an expert. He said this is very common, that when you buy cheap creatine, um, cheap creatine often has other shit in it, because you're buying it from China and from other places that have unscrupulous mixing th- And I... Listen, as one of the owners of Onnit, I know that this... We never had our stuff test positive for steroids, but what we did have is when we looked at the early batches of Alpha Brain, we had it independently tested. You know, when we first... When Aubrey and I first opened Onnit, we didn't know what the fuck we were doing, in terms of... We hadn't, uh, run a supplement company before, and there was a lot of learning to do. And one of the things that we learned was that when you're buying stuff and then you're having stuff mixed, the people that are mixing it, if you don't get the very best people, you're getting people that mix stuff that don't clean out their vats.

    27. BS

So you might get Winstrol in there or whatever.

    28. JR

You could get anything in there. We never got s-

    29. BS

      That's not shit I want.

    30. JR

We never got steroids in ours, but probably 'cause with the stuff we're buying is nootropics, which are just, uh, nutrients that enhance brain function. So, the, the people that were selling stuff were selling similar things, vitamins and the like. So, b- but we did get our stuff tainted...... in a sense, with other nutrients that weren't supposed to be in there. So then we had to do some investigation, and then we figured out what the problem was. And we adjusted our methods, and we changed the way w- we changed the people we work with, and we, we did a lot of different things. But if you're buying cheap creatine, that's what c- that's what coke dealers use. Joe, why is he buying cheap creatine?

Chappelle on tour: Tacoma Dome madness, rockstar logistics, and leaving California

    1. JR

Yeah, yeah, yeah. We went to see, uh, uh, Once Upon a Time in America-

    2. BS

      Do you like it?

    3. JR

... at 1:00 in the morning. Dave rented out the entire, uh, movie theater. We do this fucking sold-out show in the Tacoma Dome, we break the all-time attendance record for the Tacoma Dome, 25,000 people. It was madness, right? We're flying high. It's insane. It was an insane show.

    4. BS

Who, who, who's else is ... Who opens for you guys?

    5. JR

Well, it's Ashley Barnhill, she goes on, she does 10 minutes, and then Ian Edwards goes on-

    6. BS

      Monster.

    7. JR

... murders it. And then I go on, murdered it. It was a fucking crazy intermission. There's a DJ, he's got a hype man, chugga, chugga, chugga, chugga, chugga.

    8. BS

      What?

    9. JR

People are get drinking, fucking f- lights and everything. It's madness. Okay, then Donell Rawlings goes on.

    10. BS

      It's a show.

    11. JR

      Murders-

    12. BS

      Legend.

    13. JR

... murders. Then Dave goes on, lights the place on fire, uh, uh, pisses gasoline on the flames. Then afterwards, he and I go on stage together and we take Q&A with the crowd.

    14. BS

And what do you do together?

    15. JR

Donell's got a microphone. He's going into the crowd with 20-fucking-5000 people. People are rushing the stage. It's madness. I mean, madness. What-

    16. BS

      What questions did you get?

    17. JR

Ah, it was all, uh, random shit. I'm a rich bitch. People are just a ... Everyone's drunk.

    18. BS

I'm sure Dave hates that, by the way.

    19. JR

The show is five hours old by the time this is happening.

    20. BS

      Wow.

    21. JR

I'm not exaggerating. We go on stage. The show's supposed to start at 8:00, probably starts at 8:30, 9:00, 10:00, 11:00, 12:00. The show was at least, at least three and a half, four hours old by the time it was over. So the show ends like, uh, 12:30-ish. We go immediately from the arena straight to a movie theater that David rented out. We have a private screening of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood at 1:00 in the morning.

    22. BS

      (laughs)

    23. JR

Dave's eating mushrooms that some fucking guy gave him in the crowd.

    24. BS

      Did you eat them too?

    25. JR

      No.

    26. NA

      (laughs)

    27. BS

      Too smart for that, man.

    28. JR

No. Fool me once, shame on you.

    29. BS

      (laughs)

    30. NA

      (laughs)

Cars, luxury brands, and action-star rabbit holes (Ferrari, Porsche, Fast & Furious)

    1. JR

Can I tell you... Ever tell you I ran into him at a gas station? Some guy pulls up in a fucking car that doesn't even look like it's from this planet.

    2. BS

      (laughs)

    3. JR

Some strange SUV, some weird fucking... I don't know what it's called, but I looked at it. I was like, "What the fuck is that thing?"

    4. BS

Like one of those apocalypse tank?

    5. JR

Weird, weird-looking thing that is, it's b-... I forget what it's based on. It's based on, like, the frame of a Jeep Wrangler, and they build this insane, you know, like, $500,000 fucking SUV. I don't know, I'm like, "Who is Dr-" and the window rolled down. "What's up, Joe?" And it's Jamie Foxx. I'm like, "Oh, what are you doing, Jamie?"

    6. BS

      No. (laughs)

    7. JR

I'm like, "What is this?" And his friend was selling them. His friend sold it. He probably gave it to Jamie to drive around and advertise.

    8. BS

For sure. I think I remember he sold.

    9. JR

Yeah, and I was like, "This is the craziest looking car I've ever seen."

    10. BS

      This is crazy.

    11. JR

It's so weird-looking. You know what it is?

    12. NA

      They're, like, boxy, right?

    13. JR

      Yeah.

    14. NA

But then they have squinty little lights. I've seen it recently, yeah.

    15. JR

      Yeah, they have, like-

    16. NA

I don't, I don't know how to even find it.

    17. BS

      Yeah.

    18. NA

I don't know how to even find it.

    19. JR

      Yeah, just Google-

    20. BS

      Uh, I will-

    21. NA

      All right, yeah.

    22. JR

      ... Jamie Foxx crazy SUV.

    23. NA

All right, I got crazy expensive Jeep Wranglers that I got so far.

    24. BS

Why I know this, I don't know, but it's, uh, uh, Chris Brown drives one in the new, his new video where he dances with the housegirl, whatever.

    25. JR

Oh, he's got one of them too?

    26. BS

      Yeah.

    27. NA

      Oh, yeah, it is.

    28. JR

They're probably giving them away to people.

    29. BS

      For sure.

    30. NA

      Rezvani Tank.

    4. BS

    5. JR
