Crawford’s stance-switching style and reading opponents in real time

    1. JR

Ladies and gentlemen, one of the best boxers on planet Earth and his trainer, (slaps table) Bo Mack and Terence Crawford. Gentlemen, thank you very much for coming here.

    2. BM

      Thank you, man.

    3. JR

      We're live now.

    4. TC

      Appreciate it, appreciate it. (laughs)

    5. BM

      (laughs)

    6. JR

Hey, man, I'm a big fan of yours. I've... We've talked about you many times on this podcast. I'm a, I'm a huge fan of the way you switch stances. You know, you switch, s- switch stances as smooth as anybody ever. Like f- like, you gotta go back to Marvin Hagler to find a champ that switched stances like as fluidly as you. It's pretty, pretty impressive stuff, man.

    7. TC

      A lot of practice.

    8. JR

Have you always been doing that?

    9. TC

A lot of practice. Yeah, since I was little. I remember getting in trouble 'cause I used to always switch 'em. My coach used to always say, "You need to worry about fighting-"

    10. JR

      (laughs)

    11. TC

"...the one style first and perfecting that before you try to, try to, uh, switch and do a different style." But I always switched, so it got to the point where there was just like, "All right, well, if you gonna fight like that, we gonna train you like that."

    12. JR

Wow, so you forced it through.

    13. TC

      Right.

    14. JR

Wow. Now, when you first started out, was there anybody that influenced you to switch like that, or was it just something you felt naturally?

    15. TC

      It was just naturally.

    16. JR

      Wow.

    17. TC

It was just like, "All right, this not working, so I gotta do something else."

    18. JR

      Just make it more tricky.

    19. TC

      Right.

    20. JR

Yeah, well, that's, that's part of what's interesting about watching you fights... Wa- Watching you fight is that you could see you trying to figure out what's up. Like, first rounds with... when, when you fight is one of my favorite things to watch 'cause I see you measuring dudes, I see things happening, and you're switching stances, and then when you start finding the timing. It's like, timing is one of the more fascinating things to watch about boxing, 'cause a guy who has perfect timing and perfect p- Like, when you see a guy make a read and then execute and it's perfect, it's one of the most beautiful things in all of sports.

    21. TC

Right, right. It's like you, you know, you watching their every move and then you just dissecting 'em slowly.

    22. JR

How do you think... Do you think about it like... When you, when you start a round, a, a first round of a fight, is it different for every fighter, or do you always wanna do that? Do you always wanna, like, put them into the computer?

    23. TC

No, it's different, it's different. Like, sometimes I just wanna go out there and just be like, "All right, I'm gonna see what this dude got, see if he can take it."

    24. JR

      Just go right to him?

    25. TC

Yeah. And then sometimes I just be like, "All right, I'm gonna take my time and, you know, figure him out, see how fast he is, see, you know, what things he like to do and what he d- don't like to do, or see if I move this way, his reaction." Just certain things.

    26. JR

It's, uh, you know... Well, you came to the UFC this weekend, and, uh, you know, obviously I love MMA, but one of the things that I love about boxing is when you take away all the elements, you take away wrestling and kicking and all that stuff, you get the highest level of ex- exchanges and punches.

  2. 2:414:20

Boxing heroes, film study, and staying out of trouble through the gym

    1. TC

      (coughs)

    2. JR

And you get to see with guys like you, guys like Canelo or Floyd or the, the top level boxers, you get to see what's possible with guys that are training with the best scientific methods and with all the knowledge of all the past fighters. I mean, when you were growing up, who... What was the, the fighter that influenced you the most?

    3. TC

Well, hands down, Floyd Mayweather and Roy Jones Jr. You know, I used to love watching Roy Jones Jr. I'm pretty sure everybody-

    4. JR

      Everybody did.

    5. TC

... was a fan of Roy. But set aside Roy, I always watched Floyd Mayweather and Pernell Whitaker.

    6. JR

      Yes.

    7. TC

Uh, I was too young for Sugar Ray Leonard and them, so...

    8. JR

      I'm old enough for that.

    9. TC

      (laughs)

    10. JR

I, I was there for the Sugar Ray Leonard days, I was there for Sugar Ray Tommy Hearns, the, the, the, the Sugar Ray Duran. I, I was there for all that stuff.

    11. TC

But I, I, I watched everything. Uh, when I was a... when I was young, my coach, Mitch Minor, he used to always take me to his house and watch boxing tapes. That was to keep me off, off the streets and keep me out of trouble until I went to the gym.

    12. JR

      Is he still around?

    13. TC

      Nah, he passed.

    14. JR

Damn, he probably like, "Look at that."

    15. TC

      Yeah, yeah.

    16. JR

"Boy, did that work out." (laughs)

    17. TC

      (laughs)

    18. BM

      (laughs)

    19. JR

You know, we talk about an investment in time.

    20. TC

      Right.

    21. JR

That, that worked out tremendously. Yeah, the, the... It's always... Uh, in our culture, there's a special place for the highest level of boxers. There's like a special place of, uh, admiration. And I just feel like with guys like Lomachenko, with guys like you, with Canelo and Triple G, this is a great time for boxing. It's fun to watch, man. There's so many... Errol Spence Jr., there's so many elite boxers right now. It's like a really exciting time.

    22. TC

      For sure, for sure.

  3. 4:208:03

Legacy talk: Hall of Fame confidence and the Spence fight business barrier

    1. JR

Do you recognize your place in history? Do you recognize that, like, you're, you're a special dude?

    2. TC

Of course, of course. Like, I always tell people when they, uh, mention me and Errol Spence, "You know, of course I want to fight," I tell everybody that. I always say, "With or without him, I'm going to the Hall of Fame." When you look at all the things that I've accomplished in the sport of boxing, people that's in the Hall of Fame didn't even accomplish that. You know, so I was... I just tell people, "I don't need him, he really need me."

    3. JR

      Well, we need it.

    4. TC

      (laughs)

    5. BM

      (laughs)

    6. TC

      Boxing... Right? Don't you agree?

    7. BM

Yeah, boxing do need that fight.

    8. JR

Boxing needs it. I mean, that's one of the beau- beautiful things about when Canelo and Triple G do get together, is you see these guys in their respective weight classes that are in their prime. It's fun. You know, like, that's what everybody wants to see.

    9. TC

      That's what it's all about.

    10. JR

      That's the fight, right?

    11. TC

      That's what it's all about.

    12. BM

And to stop a whole lot of barber- barbershop conversations.

    13. JR

      Yes.

    14. BM

      (laughs)

    15. TC

      (laughs)

    16. JR

We need to stop a whole lot of comedy club conversations-

    17. BM

      Yeah.

    18. JR

... barbershop, garage, everywhere. Yeah, that's the, that's the fight to make in your weight class right now, right?

    19. TC

      For sure.

    20. JR

      What's hold... What's the holdup?

    21. TC

      You gotta ask them.

    22. JR

      Oh, it's them.

    23. TC

      (laughs)

    24. JR

Well, everybody has to hold out a little bit, right, to get the best deal, right?

    25. BM

      Yeah, that's cool, that's cool.

    26. TC

So, you know, uh, it's, it's all about business, but at the same time, uh, my side of, of the deal is ready whenever.

    27. BM

And you can see all the interviews out there, man. You can see where if it's Terence or myself or Bob or anybody that's affiliated with Team Crawford, we all say we want the fight, you know.

    28. JR

      Yeah.

    29. BM

We could have a fight tomorrow, you know, if we wanted to. So... But we know in reality it won't happen-

    30. TC

      But- (laughs)

  4. 8:0311:24

After retirement: giving back through a home gym and working with kids

    1. JR

What about after you're done? When, when your career's over, when you've retired, do you think you'd do some promoting then or training? What would you do?

    2. TC

No, I'd just be l- uh, in my gym back at home, you know. My coach got us a gym and just put my time and effort into the kids in the gym and my five kids that I have.

    3. JR

Beautiful. Yeah. That's a, that's a, that's a solid plan. You know? You don't need to get involved in that promoting shit.

    4. BM

Now, he, he, he do get in the gym sometimes and, and work with the fighters.

    5. TC

      (laughs)

    6. JR

      Do you?

    7. TC

      Yeah.

    8. BM

      Yeah.

    9. TC

      (laughs)

    10. JR

      Why is that funny?

    11. TC

Because it's, it's funny to see him work with them because after about two rounds, he goes, "I can't do this shit, man."

    12. JR

      (laughs)

    13. BM

      (laughs)

    14. TC

      (laughs)

    15. JR

      'Cause they're not listening?

    16. TC

No, man. It's like you telling them over and over-

    17. JR

      Mm-hmm.

    18. TC

... to do one little simple thing and like ... Just say you tell them, "Keep your right hand up."

    19. JR

      Right.

    20. TC

And they keep going like this.

    21. BM

      (laughs)

    22. TC

      Keep it like ...

    23. JR

Are you talking about brand new people?

    24. TC

      Like, yeah, like even-

    25. BM

      Oh.

    26. TC

Even, even boxers that's been boxing for years that they really don't have the fundamentals down to a T. And you're like, "Dude, you've been boxing too long for you to still be making the same mistake."

    27. BM

      Mm.

    28. TC

And it's like, I only could say certain things for so c- for certain learn- for c- for certain learning. And then it's just like, all right, I ain't saying it no more.

    29. JR

Well, yeah, your opinion is as valuable as anybody alive. You're one of the best fucking boxers ever. So you're a, a beginning boxer and Terence Crawford's teaching you something, you're not listening?

    30. TC

      You're probably nervous as shit.

  5. 11:2416:27

Work ethic as the separator: lessons from Floyd and building a complete engine

    1. TC

And that's one thing I took from Floyd Mayweather. You will always see him-

    2. JR

      Yep.

    3. TC

      ... working out.

    4. JR

      Yeah.

    5. TC

I don't care if he was at a, a bar, you'll see him running from the bar. He got his little workout clothes in his little TMT, uh, van, and he just run home.

    6. JR

      Yeah.

    7. TC

Like, or you'll see him 3:00 in the morning, "Man, let's go work out." You know? And that's what I admire the most of is his work ethic.

    8. JR

His work ethic's off the chart. This is the only way you be that good. There's no other way. I mean, yeah, he understands boxing at a level that, I mean, he grew up with it, having his dad and his uncle and all that. The, the family was ... So many great boxers around him all the time. But he ... You don't get that good without i- insane work ethic.

    9. TC

      There's no-

    10. JR

      There's no shortcuts.

    11. TC

No, not at all. I, I have never seen nobody ...Like, put as much work in as Floyd. So that's why, you know, for me, I'm like thinking to myself, "I gotta work twice as harder, you know, if I wanna get above him." Because I never wanna be like anybody. I always wanna be myself, but I wanna surpass the people that was in front of me.

    12. JR

Was it, um, eye-opening when you got to watch him train?

    13. TC

Of course, of course. You know, when I was younger, it lets me know that I wasn't working as hard.

    14. JR

      Yeah.

    15. TC

So now, when, when fighters come to my camp or I bring in some sparring partners or some friends that's professional that just wanna, you know, come to camp and just experience just being in camp with a world champion, they all say the same thing. "Man, I thought I was working hard 'til I came up here, man. You work, man, you work too hard." And, and it ain't f- for some people, 'cause some people they just be like, "Oh, I can't do it today." Like-

    16. JR

      (laughs)

    17. TC

... "Nah, I'ma let y'all do them two. I'ma go to the gym, but I ain't gonna do the other stuff." And I just be like, "Man, come on, man." They be like, "Man, my body." Be like, "Man, see, that's what's gonna determine winning and losing, you complaining about your body when you can rest later, you know?"

    18. JR

Right. What other stuff are you trying to get- get them to do? I know you do a lot of stair running, right?

    19. TC

I do a lot of everything. I do yoga, I do-

    20. JR

      Do you really?

    21. TC

... strength conditioning. I do swimming.

    22. JR

      Hot yoga, too.

    23. TC

      (laughs)

    24. JR

You do hot yoga? I love that.

    25. TC

Hey, Joe, I used to do it too, dog. (laughs)

    26. JR

      (laughs)

    27. TC

      (laughs)

    28. JR

      I believe you.

    29. TC

      Man.

    30. JR

Listen, man. Everybody can do it.

  6. 16:2718:11

Kids’ sports, MMA vs boxing damage, and how fighters know when to stop

    1. JR

And your kids are wrestlers, right?

    2. TC

      Yeah.

    3. JR

      That's awesome.

    4. TC

      Yeah.

    5. JR

Do you think your kids will ever fight MMA?

    6. TC

Nah. Actually, I'm on ... I'm trying to convert 'em to baseball.

    7. JR

      Really?

    8. TC

Probably in the next year. You know, because it ain't, it ain't that much money in wrestling.

    9. JR

      It's true.

    10. TC

You know, when you look at the MMA fighters, uh, they ain't making a lot of money to get beat up like they getting beat up. Like, look at, uh, Pettis. He broke his feet, right? You know?

    11. JR

He ... Yeah, it looked like he broke one of his ankles, maybe.

    12. TC

      Yeah.

    13. JR

      Or at least hurt it.

    14. TC

I'm pretty sure he didn't make over $300,000 for that shot. That fight.

    15. JR

I'd like to know. See if they find out how much Anthony Pettis made for that fight.

    16. GU

      He did break his foot.

    17. TC

He broke his foot, for sure?

    18. GU

      Mm-hmm, yes.

    19. JR

Oh, yeah. He was walking around, uh, or being pushed around in a wheelchair today on Instagram.

    20. GU

      Mm-hmm.

    21. JR

      Yeah, it's rough.

    22. TC

      You see people get kneed-

    23. JR

      Mm-hmm.

    24. TC

... kicked in the face, teeth.

    25. JR

Do you look at it as being more brutal than boxing?

    26. TC

      (clicks tongue) Yeah.

    27. JR

      Yeah? You like-

    28. TC

You take, you take more risks in, in, in UFC.

    29. JR

      You think so?

    30. TC

      Boxing, more head injuries.

  7. 18:1124:34

Marvin Hagler stories: walking away, Italian action movies, and cold-weather grit

    1. JR

Just go out on top.... like, Marvin Hagler was one of the only ones ever do it. He went out on top, another switch hitter.

    2. TC

      Right.

    3. JR

Marvin Hagler was the only one outta all the greats who lost that fight, controversial loss to Sugar Ray Leonard, was like, "Fuck this, I'm done." Just walked away.

    4. TC

Didn't he come back? One- one fight after that?

    5. JR

      Nope, nope, never.

    6. TC

      Okay.

    7. JR

      Never came back.

    8. TC

So w- w- his last fight was Ray Leonard, wasn't it?

    9. JR

Yep, yep. That was it. Controversial loss to Leonard, became a movie star in Italy. You ever seen his movies in Italy?

    10. TC

      Nah, I just know he-

    11. JR

      Wanna, wanna watch some clips?

    12. TC

      (laughs)

    13. JR

It's hilarious. Yeah, pull up Marvin Hagler fucking people up. He's like a, a movie star.

    14. TC

      (laughs)

    15. JR

He does, like, these crazy Italian movies.

    16. TC

      How much did he make?

    17. JR

      What is this?

    18. TC

This is how much he made for it.

    19. JR

      $155,000, wow.

    20. TC

He had a... Another $355,000 if he won, but-

    21. JR

      So-

    22. TC

      Can you see?

    23. JR

... Diaz made a flat $250,000 for the win. Yeah. The- they used to, before the Reebok deal, they used to make much more than that-

    24. TC

      Way more, for sponsorships.

    25. JR

      ... from sponsorships. Yeah.

    26. TC

'Cause, uh, I got a buddy, Mersad Bektiq, you know-

    27. JR

Yeah, I know that guy. He's really good.

    28. TC

      From Lincoln.

    29. JR

      Very talented.

    30. TC

      Nebraska.

  8. 24:3439:46

Altitude camp in Colorado Springs: the Manitou steps, routines, and planning

    1. JR

So when, when I see you doing those, uh, those stair runs, you do that quite a bit, right?

    2. TC

      Right, every Sunday.

    3. JR

Where do you do that at?

    4. TC

      At, in Colorado Springs.

    5. JR

Well, you don't not, well, you don't, probably won't tell anybody where you go.

    6. TC

      Oh, they know.

    7. JR

They know? Oh, they go there right-

    8. TC

      It's, it's in Colorado Springs.

    9. JR

Oh, okay. It's... That's a famous spot, right?

    10. TC

      Yeah, Manitou Springs.

    11. JR

How many steps is that, that whole thing?

    12. BM

      Pshh...

    13. JR

      Something crazy, right?

    14. TC

      Some thousands.

    15. BM

      It's, it's a mile and a half up, I believe.

    16. TC

      No, it's a mile.

    17. BM

      A mile?

    18. JR

A mile up a hill. How long does it take you to get up there?

    19. TC

      Probably like 35 minutes, 34.

    20. JR

That's a fucking horrible run, a mile and a half.

    21. TC

      Yeah, but you're not running.

    22. JR

      Up a hill.

    23. TC

You walk... We walk it, but some people run it.

    24. JR

      Oh, you walk it?

    25. TC

Yeah. That's insane, them people that be running, insane, 'cause the air getting thinner and thinner as you go. And then the steps, you got some steps that's like this, that's small, and then you got some steps where you gotta really reach.

    26. JR

      Oh.

    27. TC

      Like, you know?

    28. JR

So if you're running and you slip-

    29. TC

      Yeah.

    30. JR

      ... it's a fucked up tumble.

Heavyweight boxing’s resurgence: Wilder’s power, Ruiz-Joshua drama, and testing

    1. JR

What a character. It's interesting too, like, the heavyweight division has now become the focal point of boxing again. It's very exciting.

    2. TC

      That's good.

    3. JR

Like, for ... Yeah, for a long time, Wladimir Klitschko was the heavyweight champ of the world and for whatever reason, nobody gave a fuck. It was weird.

    4. GU

Because he was dominating for all those years.

    5. JR

He was jab and clutch, jab and clutch. He was-

    6. TC

I think it's because we didn't have the American champion, you know?

    7. JR

      Yeah, for sure.

    8. TC

So everybody was like, "Oh, forget it." (laughs) He went ... (taps hand) died.

    9. JR

There probably has something to do with it. (clears throat) But if he was fighting in st- like, if he was fighting the way Deon- Deontay Wilder does, who cares if he's from the moon?

    10. TC

      Right. (laughs)

    11. JR

You know? He's starting people like that-

    12. TC

      Yeah.

    13. JR

... like, we wanna see that guy fight. Like, you don't care if that guy's from fucking Brazil or wherever he's from.

    14. TC

      When he-

    15. JR

We ... When he land that right hand, it's- Woo!

    16. TC

      ... it's good night.

    17. JR

      God damn.

    18. GU

      (laughs)

    19. TC

      (laughs)

    20. JR

It's one of those punches where people just go ... They ... You see people in the audience going, "Ooh."

    21. GU

      (laughs)

    22. TC

      (laughs)

    23. JR

      "God, he hits hard."

    24. TC

Even when he don't fully extend, it be like ... (slaps leg)

    25. JR

The crazy thing is when he fought Tyson Fury, he was 209. 209. That's nothing to p- And he punches so fucking hard, it's crazy. That dude is a, an anomaly. The fact that he won a bronze medal in the Olympics three years after taking up boxing-

    26. TC

      Right.

    27. JR

      ... it's, it's insane. It's just insane.

    28. TC

Yeah. 'Cause there ... A lot of people, they asked me, 'cause we, we was in the same, you know, uh, trials in 2007. And they was like, "Do you ever remember Deontay Wilder in the, in the amateurs?" I said, "Man, he came outta nowhere cracking people."

    29. JR

      (laughs)

    30. GU

      (laughs)

Rumors, publicity stunts, and Rogan’s Fear Factor behind-the-scenes chaos

    1. JR

Like Richard Gere with that gerbil up his ass, remember that one?

    2. BM

      (laughs)

    3. TC

      (laughs)

    4. JR

      Do you remember that rumor?

    5. BM

      I heard that. Yeah.

    6. TC

      No.

    7. JR

Everybody heard that. You never heard that?

    8. TC

He's had a gerbil up his ass? (laughs)

    9. JR

You think you heard it, right?

    10. TC

      Yeah, I heard it. (laughs)

    11. JR

Tell them, tell them the rumor.

    12. BM

It's just... (laughs) I just heard the rumor. I don't know how it happened.

    13. JR

When we were kids, when we were kids, um, there was a rumor that Richard Gere had to go to the hospital to get a gerbil taken out of his ass.

    14. BM

      (laughs)

    15. JR

Now, (clears throat) I grew up in the East Coast. My friend Eddie grew up in California. He heard the same story. I was like, "This is the same goddamn rumor." Like how'd this rumor get across the country? We're the same age.

    16. TC

      Right.

    17. JR

No internet. The rumor made it all the way across the country when we were in high school.

    18. TC

So was it true or not?

    19. JR

      Probably not.

    20. BM

      (laughs)

    21. TC

      (laughs)

    22. JR

I think you can get a gerbil out yourself. You don't need to go to a hospital.

    23. BM

      (laughs)

    24. TC

      (laughs)

    25. JR

You know? That- that is not- not worth the embarrassment. You'll take some time to go to the store and buy some tweezers.

    26. TC

      All right. (laughs)

    27. JR

But you're, uh, you don't need to go to the hospital.

    28. TC

      (laughs)

    29. JR

Just get a mirror and some tweezers. We can handle this. We don't need to let everybody know our business.

    30. TC

      Oh, man. All right.

The Benavidez grudge: trash talk, emotional control, and tactical adjustments

    1. JR

Who was that, the Mexican gentleman that you fought recently that was talking a lot of shit and you stopped him?

    2. BM

      Benavidez.

    3. TC

      Benavidez.

    4. JR

      That's right.

    5. TC

      Yeah, yeah.

    6. JR

That, that seemed like a particularly satisfying one for you.

    7. TC

      Yeah.

    8. JR

'Cause there was a lot of shit talking leading up to that fight.

    9. BM

You talk a lot of shit, man.

    10. TC

      For years.

    11. JR

There's certain times we watch guys talk shit and I go, "Son."

    12. BM

      (laughs)

    13. JR

      "Son, slow down."

    14. TC

      (Laughs) Yeah.

    15. BM

      (laughs)

    16. JR

"This is, this is not a good idea."

    17. TC

But it just came outta nowhere, like, I never said nothing to that dude, never did nothing to that dude, like, and he just out the blue just for years, like, I'm ducking him. I'm like, "Dude, you went up in weight, I'm at 140." Like, when I was at 135 he was talking about fighting me. He was at 140. I got up to 140, he won a little fight and then he moved up in weight and I'm like, "Dude, like, you're nobody for me to be worried about." So then it got to the point where he was like, "Oh, well, they made me an offer to fight you and you ducked me," and this... So he started telling everybody I ducked him, I've been ducking him since 140, so. In the press conference I said, "Did y'all ever offer me or him a fight, to fight each other?" And they was like, "No." So, so where he come up with that at? He's like, "Well, it don't matter, we fighting right now, so I'm sorry."

    18. JR

      It was a good fight.

    19. TC

      Yeah.

    20. JR

It was a good fight. It was a good fight, too, to showcase you, you know, particularly the knockout. And that was a beautiful combination, man, when, when you clipped him.

    21. TC

      Right.

    22. JR

And then he gets up and then you put him away. When you watch a fight like that where you have a guy who talks shit and then you wind up fucking him up, is it ever more satisfying?

    23. TC

      Oh, yeah.

    24. JR

'Cause you seem to enjoy it. It's like-

    25. TC

      Yeah, yeah, yeah.

    26. JR

... the best fighters enjoy putting a beating on someone.

    27. TC

      Of course. Like-

    28. JR

      (laughs)

    29. TC

... going into the fight, I had to calm my emotions down.

    30. JR

      'Cause of the anger?

Boxing’s TV shakeup and Pacquiao breakdown: commentary, judging, and matchups

    1. JR

Oh, interesting, interesting. Well, there's so many different outlets for boxing now, you know? You know, there's PBC, there's Fox, there's... You know, ESPN is putting on high caliber fights now too.

    2. TC

      Right.

    3. JR

It's very interesting. Uh, but HBO's out of the game. Doesn't that feel weird?

    4. TC

It does, being that, that, that was the go-to channel to watch, uh, boxing when I was coming up. Only people you had on Showtime was Mike Tyson.

    5. JR

And it was the best commentary crew too. It was Jim Lampley, Max Kellerman, Roy Jones Jr., sometimes George Foreman.

    6. TC

      Mm-hmm.

    7. JR

      You know, Larry Merchant-

    8. TC

      Emanuel Stewart.

    9. JR

... when he was doing it. Yeah, man.

    10. TC

      Emanuel Stewart.

    11. JR

Emanuel Stewart and Harold Letterman would come in between rounds-

    12. TC

      Yeah.

    13. JR

... and tell... give you his score.

    14. TC

      (laughs)

    15. JR

It was fucking great. I miss that.

    16. TC

      Yeah.

    17. JR

Don't you miss that? I mean-

    18. TC

      Oh, yeah.

    19. JR

... Harold Letterman, rest in peace. He passed away recently. Um, didn't he? Did, right?

    20. TC

      Yeah, yeah, yeah. He passed.

    21. JR

He did, he did. Um, but I, I miss that man. Jim Lampley was fucking great and Max Kellerman was great. It's like you don't have that... There's not a commentary team like that right now in, in boxing.

    22. TC

      Right.

    23. JR

Is there? Am I, am I wrong?

    24. TC

No, not to the, to the level of their expertise.

    25. JR

Why don't they have those guys go over to one of these streaming services like DAZN or ESPN or something? It just seems like that's the team, right?

    26. TC

      Yeah. Yeah, but-

    27. JR

Andre Ward. Andre Ward's fantastic at it.

    28. TC

      Oh, yeah.

    29. JR

      He's coming on here too.

    30. TC

      Yeah.

Competitive downtime: pool hustles, poker psychology, chess prep, and camp ‘daycare’

    1. JR

He's a killer pool player. Did you know that about Pacquiao?

    2. BM

      No, I didn't.

    3. JR

Like world class. Like he could play pool professionally.

    4. TC

      Me too.

    5. JR

      Really?

    6. TC

      Yeah, I be too.

    7. JR

You can play? Oh, we gotta play then.

    8. TC

      Yeah, I heard you got-

    9. JR

      Yeah.

    10. TC

... got your little personal sticks.

    11. JR

      I'm pretty good. Yeah.

    12. TC

      Yeah.

    13. JR

      You good?

    14. TC

      Yeah.

    15. JR

Okay. What kind- what do you play?

    16. TC

      Whatever you wanna play.

    17. JR

You play like nine ball, 10 ball?

    18. TC

      Whatever.

    19. JR

      Okay, we'll play. Cool.

    20. TC

You can... Hey, so if I leave five balls on the table, you owe me.

    21. JR

      If you leave-

    22. TC

Five of your balls on the table.

    23. JR

... five balls on the ta- my ba- what? We were playing eight-ball?

    24. TC

      We can play eight-ball.

    25. JR

      That's nonsense. That's a nonsense game. Eight-ball, that's a silly game. You're trying to get me-

    26. TC

      (laughs)

    27. JR

... leave my balls on the table? Why would I do that?

    28. TC

      No, I'm saying-

    29. JR

      Right.

    30. TC

      ... if- if I win-
