(wind blowing) Anyway, so welcome back. I'm joined on the long-awaited super podcast, Sunny Webster, Zack George, Leon and John from the Lean Machines.
- LMLeon (The Lean Machines)
Hi.
- ZGZack George
Say hello, everyone.
- LMLeon (The Lean Machines)
How you doing? Hello.
- SWSonny Webster
How you doing?
- CWChris Williamson
What's happening? Mic's over here. (laughs)
- LMLeon (The Lean Machines)
(laughs) Nailed it. (laughs)
- CWChris Williamson
So we asked online for some suggestions for people to ask you questions, ahead of Battle Cancers big event tomorrow. First question, how are you guys feeling for the comp tomorrow? You've seen the workouts now, you know what's coming up. How are you feeling?
- ZGZack George
It's just gonna be fun to compete with the boys. It's just gonna be a laugh.
- LMLeon (The Lean Machines)
Yeah.
- SWSonny Webster
Very different workout to what we're used to.
- ZGZack George
Yeah, I'm feeling a little bit stressed because obviously I'm the biggest athlete out of all four of us here, so...
- LMLeon (The Lean Machines)
(laughs)
- CWChris Williamson
(laughs)
- SWSonny Webster
He's got a lot of weight to carry.
- ZGZack George
Right. Yeah.
- LMLeon (The Lean Machines)
I'm the biggest, you don't need to carry me.
- ZGZack George
Normally, normally when I'm on my own, it's, it's hard. But with these three to carry as well, it's, I don't know how I'm going to get through. But it'll be fun, I would say.
- SWSonny Webster
I don't wanna run.
- ZGZack George
(laughs) Are there any, are there any workouts?
- LMLeon (The Lean Machines)
(laughs) I'm sure there's one workout where you all have to run.
- CWChris Williamson
Yeah.
- ZGZack George
You have to run all the way around.
- SWSonny Webster
And there's a carrying one.
- ZGZack George
50 kilometer.
- SWSonny Webster
I've got to carry Sunny.
- LMLeon (The Lean Machines)
(laughs) Sunny's dead last.
- ZGZack George
(laughs) Who's gonna carry you?
- SWSonny Webster
Yeah, they'll be sweeping up when they come across the line.
- LMLeon (The Lean Machines)
(laughs)
- 15:00 – 28:28
Yeah. …
- ZGZack George
- SWSonny Webster
Yeah.
- JMJohn (The Lean Machines)
So has it grown back?
- ZGZack George
Yeah, it's growing back now.
- SWSonny Webster
Is it thicker?
- ZGZack George
Yeah, it's thicker on the-
- JMJohn (The Lean Machines)
Mercifully around the outsides and he got this really short bit in the middle.
- ZGZack George
Yeah. (laughs) In the middle it's just like a bald stamp.
- SWSonny Webster
(laughs)
- ZGZack George
Because it hasn't been growing. It was brilliant.
- JMJohn (The Lean Machines)
Oh my God.
- ZGZack George
It was so funny, yeah.
- JMJohn (The Lean Machines)
Is it too late to start weightlifting at 18 years old?
- SWSonny Webster
A lot of people have been asking this recently, but like...
- ZGZack George
Depends what the goal is though, I guess.
- JMJohn (The Lean Machines)
Do you think that this is a...
- ZGZack George
What level you'll get to.
- JMJohn (The Lean Machines)
Do you think that this is a byproduct of the fact that a lot of people that are good at the sport do it-
- SWSonny Webster
Just go bring it later. Yeah.
- JMJohn (The Lean Machines)
... do it, do it young? Like you talk about the fact you've done it since you were 11, 12 years old, et cetera.
- SWSonny Webster
Yeah. Of course for me-
- ZGZack George
He's been doing it for three years though.
- SWSonny Webster
... it comes so naturally.
- ZGZack George
(laughs)
- SWSonny Webster
But at the end of the day more and more people are getting into weight lifting later. It depends like, if you want to be a competitive top level weight lifter starting at 18, that is quite late. But then to say that, like my old training partner Brad, he started at 18, he went to Commonwealth Games. So I don't think that's too late, it just needed to be sensible and have like probably a background from another sport that's going to carry over, because your transition could be quite quick.
- ZGZack George
I started 20 and...
- SWSonny Webster
You know, like for example, Zach's numbers, he's like nearly lifting, you know, what's, what're your two bests, Zach can do?
Snatch was at 125 and clean did at 155.
Which are big numbers, yeah. So 25, 65 for someone who's only been lifting three years. But obviously you didn't start till how old?
I started lifting properly when I was 25. Yeah.
