Q&A 101

Jonny & Yusef from PropaneFitness.com are back again. This time we asked for questions from listeners at home, and oh boy did we get some interesting ones... We talk honestly about our relationships with each other, open up regarding our own mental health battles, and elucidate what is probably the best short-form life advice we can give you. Plus we work out what is the biggest animal we can single handedly cling film to a lamppost. Listen through until the end to find out what episodes and topics we have coming up and hear me begin to articulate "My Why". Also... This probably ranks as my favourite episode to record so far. The questions are so wide ranging and either interesting or ridiculous; both of which are fantastic to answer. It's a credit to the community who tune into these podcasts, so thank you. - Listen to all episodes online. CHAPTERS

  1. 0:00 – 2:54

Setting up the first Modern Wisdom Q&A (and immediate chaos)

Chris is joined by Jonny and Yusef from Propane Fitness for the show’s first Q&A episode, fueled by listener-submitted Instagram questions. They set ground rules (some anonymous questions) and immediately derail into banter about hair, usernames, and recording the episode on multiple cameras.

  2. 2:54 – 5:25

Do you track macros? When it helps, when it’s unnecessary, and why it’s hard

The trio debate macro tracking: Jonny still tracks, while Chris and Yusef explain why they often don’t. They discuss how tracking can be a temporary tool to learn habits, and how adherence/personality affects whether it’s sustainable.

  3. 5:25 – 10:29

Daily routines: morning light, meditation, hospital shifts, and evening struggles

A listener asks for current daily routines, prompting each host to outline their structure. Chris emphasizes morning light exposure, journaling/reading/meditation, training, and admits evenings are his weak spot; Yusef details training plus hospital work; Jonny shares mobility, meditation, reading, and journaling.

  4. 10:29 – 12:21

Optimizing the day: stop work at 3 PM, Parkinson’s Law, and training time experiments

Jonny explains experimenting with training later and imposing a hard stop to the workday. They discuss how deadlines compress work (Parkinson’s Law), and the practical friction of a busier gym and daily time windows shaped by relationships.

  5. 12:21 – 18:14

Absurd hypotheticals: clingfilming animals and speaking to dogs

The Q&A swerves into playful hypotheticals: the biggest animal you could clingfilm to a lamppost and what you’d say if you could talk to dogs for 60 seconds. The humor reveals how they reason about docility, logistics, and what they’d actually want to learn from animals.

  6. 18:14 – 25:26

CrossFit mass gain + internet flirting + five-year visions

They answer how to ‘get massive’ while doing CrossFit, then pivot into Tinder jokes and playful audience callouts. The tone turns more reflective as they answer where they see themselves in five years—business growth, retreats, competition goals, and building Modern Wisdom.

  7. 25:26 – 26:53

Love Island’s impact: identity, integrity, and whether he’d do it again

Chris answers a recurring question: how life would differ without Love Island. He frames it less as fame and more as a catalyst for self-examination and integrity, later explaining he would consider returning now for the platform benefits.

  8. 26:53 – 29:26

Drugs/PEDs in lifting: ethics, risks, and informed decision-making

They discuss drug use and performance enhancement with a pragmatic ethical lens. The emphasis is on not cheating in tested sports, understanding long-term consequences, and avoiding reckless ‘forum science’ when hormones are involved.

  9. 29:26 – 43:12

Best recurring content: what they re-read, focus vs multitasking, and implementing advice

Asked what they return to most, they share favorite articles/videos and meta-lessons about execution. The conversation turns into a critique of multitasking and ‘information hoarding,’ pushing toward reminders, systems, and doing the basics consistently.

  10. 43:12 – 54:37

Embarrassing stories + the blunt fat-loss answer everyone needs

The hosts share their most embarrassing moments—graphic, awkward, and very human. They then pivot to the anonymous ‘How do I lose weight?’ question with a blunt but accurate answer: calorie deficit, supported by resources and tools.

  11. 54:37 – 59:20

Training goals and CrossFit development: endurance, competitions, and rehab

They outline short-term training goals—powerlifting totals, rehab, gymnastics skills, and CrossFit competition aspirations. Chris identifies endurance as the limiting factor for his CrossFit performance and explains why work capacity under fatigue matters more than maximal strength.

  12. 59:20 – 1:22:04

Mindfulness origins: Buddhism, depression, and friends who hold you to standards

A deep segment on why they got into mindfulness and mental health practices. They cover Buddhist concepts (impermanence/unsatisfactoriness/non-self), Chris’s depressive episodes and anxiety from nightlife work, and the role of strong friendships in honest accountability.

  13. 1:22:04 – 1:28:52

Career direction + advice for young people: goals, ego, and learning habits

They answer how to choose a career path and what to do if you dislike your current job, using frameworks like ‘money no object’ and a values audit. They also give advice for a 17-year-old: set multi-domain goals, build reading habits, watch ego, and embrace being wrong.

  14. 1:28:52 – 1:45:52

Body fat, muscle gain, overtraining myths, and closing announcements

They address whether staying 10–15% body fat matters for hypertrophy, arguing for a practical ‘sweet spot’ and avoiding extremes. The episode closes with upcoming guest teasers, reminders to subscribe, and plans for more topic-focused episodes.
