    Catch up 103. Come…

    1. CW

Catch up 103. Come round so fast, don't they?

    2. JO

You'd think we'd have caught up by now, wouldn't you?

    3. CW

      I went to America.

    4. JO

      Twice.

    5. CW

      As far as I'm concerned.

    6. JO

You were, you were on a podcast with Elon Musk.

    7. CW

I shared some oxygen with Elon Musk, yeah.

    8. JO

Right. (laughs) You're trying to tell a story. (laughs)

    9. YU

We're trying to get through this podcast, wrecking it. Absolutely destroying it.

    10. JO

The listeners who've tuned in not to hear you two-

    11. YU

      You did yoga.

    12. CW

      Just say silly things.

    13. YU

It's our, this is our only purpose on the podcast, to just derail your story.

    14. JO

We've got nothing interesting to say.

    15. CW

Do you know what it is as well? Like, people can say that they think that Americans are too positive or like, over the top, which is probably, probably a little bit fair, but in my experience, Americans are so much more polite than the Brits.

    16. JO

The whole Marvel shit, and this is going to offend a lot of people, but I really struggle with it.

    17. CW

      Careful, careful. BMB's gonna-

    18. JO

      Yeah.

    19. YU

Have you seen any of them?

    20. JO

      Yeah.

    21. YU

      Which ones?

    22. JO

There's a guy with a big glove. Big bloke, big glove.

    23. YU

      Is it called Big Fist?

    24. JO

And like little midget gems that he has to put in the glove. And when he puts the midget gems in the glove-

    25. YU

      (laughs)

    26. JO

... (laughs) he, uh, he kills those people.

    27. CW

      Hang on.

    28. JO

      Are you serious?

    29. YU

      Yeah.

    30. CW

      Sorry.

  2. 15:0030:00

    Oh, okay. …

    1. CW

it's just the maddest thing to see now. There's, for people who don't know, Bird, Lime, uh, I think it's like Up and something else are brands of scooter companies-

    2. JO

      Oh, okay.

    3. CW

... who have just dropped these 24 kilometer range electric mini scooters, like what you'd see kids riding around on, um, schoolchildren. But they've got a little trigger on them which, when you push it, accelerates up to about 16 miles an hour and a little brake, and everyone is just whizzing around on these scooters. And you open it like a, um, one of those ride-on, uh, bikes that you can get in the UK at the moment.

    4. YU

      It's like a micro scooter.

    5. CW

      With an electric motor.

    6. YU

Is it 'cause the town is so fast that you need something to get you around?

    7. CW

It's because a lot of people already skate and bike, and there's heavily pedestrianized areas that are built for, or um, I guess, riding areas that are built for exactly that.

    8. YU

What's the problem with normal bicycles?

    9. CW

      That they're not as cool.

    10. YU

      Okay.

    11. CW

And they don't go as fast. Like, unless you're really gunning it-

    12. YU

And you have to, you have to be absolutely everywhere.

    13. CW

... you have to use it. So every different iteration of scooter and electric vehicle is now being used by these people. So you've got, like, an electric scooter one, then you've got a bike one where you can both pedal and, uh, use the electric motor to go even faster, and they're fucking rapid. Um, and there's a skateboard one now where you're just a skateboard with a remote control, and you scan it, and you can just deposit them wherever you stop and-

    14. JO

So it's, it's exactly like the bikes in the UK.

    15. CW

      Yes, yeah.

    16. JO

      But much better.

    17. CW

Much better, faster, more, um, like cheaper as well. It's a dollar to start and like, I think it's like 15 cent a minute. It's like 10p a minute to ride however far you want.

    18. JO

      I suppose you're using power, aren't you?

    19. CW

      Yeah. And then there's a-

    20. YU

Do you have to dock it in certain stations?

    21. CW

No, so there's the, an entire sub-, uh, market of chargers so people get paid to charge these things. You sign up as a charger, take the things home with you, plug them into your wall, and then you get money based on how many you charge.

    22. YU

Oh. I'm so looking forward to this, like, decentralization of ............................ So with the Tesla thing as well, you know, they're saying you can, if you get a Tesla that has the, the full self-driving unit, you can then Uber it out to people when you're not using it. So it can take you to work, and then you just leave it to just taxi people around.

    23. CW

Is that really what they've said?

    24. JO

      Apparently, yeah.

    25. YU

There's an internal, internal facing camera if someone, like, spunks or vomits in your car, and then you can always clean that up. (laughs)

    26. JO

      Or both, at once.

    27. YU

VMD was just like trying to...

    28. JO

      (laughs)

    29. YU

Um, yeah, or both, and then you can just charge them for it. So um-

    30. JO

      Just automatically as well.

  3. 30:0045:00

    Nine and Three Quarters.…

    1. CW

      and there's, like-

    2. YU

      Nine and Three Quarters.

    3. CW

... Platform Nine and Three Quarters-

    4. YU

      Yeah.

    5. CW

... and the train's sticking out. And then they do, um, live musicals where they've got magical frogs and, like ...

    6. YU

      (laughs)

    7. CW

      It's j- it's j- unreal.

    8. YU

      Mm-hmm.

    9. CW

Like, everything about it is sick, and even the-

    10. YU

So is it someone's job to be the magical frog?

    11. CW

... no, so the magical frog's like a hand puppet that sing. So it's got five singers.

    12. YU

So, it's still someone's job, then.

    13. CW

      It's someone's hand job.

    14. YU

Hand, hand, hand job to do.

    15. CW

      It's a hand job.

    16. YU

      Okay.

    17. CW

      You get your hand-

    18. JO

      They're the best, aren't they?

    19. CW

... and you put it in the frog. I don't think that hand jobs are the best.

    20. JO

      As a job.

    21. CW

As a job. He only has one. His other hand's free.

    22. YU

Oh, okay, so you can shake hands with people like that.

    23. CW

      Yeah.

    24. YU

      At the same time. Yeah.

    25. JO

      (laughs)

    26. CW

      That's it.

    27. JO

I just think things in America, everything in America's done properly, isn't it?

    28. CW

      So, I'm gonna-

    29. JO

Like, they, they don't, they, there's no half measures in America, it's like, to the max.

    30. CW

Do you know what it is as well, like, people can say that they think that Americans are too positive or like, over the top, which is probably, probably a little bit fair, but in my experience, Americans are so much more polite than the Brits.

  4. 45:001:00:00

    Yeah, but if he's,…

    1. CW

      this is constant.

    2. YU

Yeah, but if he's, if he's constantly becoming a millionaire, like-

    3. CW

      Yeah.

    4. YU

... there'll be a time when he becomes a millionaire, it's like, "Oh, enough, enough."

    5. CW

I'm not sure that there is. I think that he said-

    6. YU

      He just keeps going.

    7. CW

"This is the reason that my wife bites her nails because he just-"

    8. YU

      Oh, God.

    9. CW

      "... constantly plays around with-"

    10. YU

      She's ragging the bank account.

    11. CW

      (laughs)

    12. YU

      Throwing it off the walls.

    13. CW

      Whiplash.

    14. YU

Seeing that, that graph on Monzo would be like whoo!

    15. CW

Yeah. Up and, up and down, yeah.

    16. YU

The, I think the, I hear constantly that like the, the self-tracking wearables world-

    17. CW

      Mm-hmm.

    18. YU

... like, that's where there's gonna be the most, um-

    19. CW

      Mm-hmm.

    20. YU

... jump in and advancement. You know, like d- I, uh, before, it won't be long before there's an implant that you wear that me- that monitors your markers.

    21. CW

      I think-

    22. YU

It creeps me out, that whole prospect.

    23. CW

I think that would be fantastic. Like, waking up and there's an app just giving you your life. You're a chartered accountant.

    24. YU

Yeah, I just want ... Just give me graphs and data.

    25. CW

      Just give me-

    26. YU

      Charts and trends.

    27. CW

But the price you pay for that, there's a guy who does a really haunting video about the, what's it called, 23andMe? And they're like doing DNA analysis stuff. Oh, yeah, the DNA stuff.

    28. YU

Saying that you only need a certain critical mass of people to, to do it and then you can draw these inferences and you can use it for forensic things. So if someone's committed, someone's committed a crime, you can then find who it is through like three levels of facts, of relationship. And so, like they, he was saying how they, basically the, some intelligence agency found who committed this crime just from Googling DNA data.

    29. CW

      Jesus.

    30. YU

And finding like three people who it could be and then speaking to their family and-

  5. 1:00:001:07:56

    (laughs) …

    1. CW

    2. JO

      (laughs)

    3. YU

Yeah, I wanna be sick and I'm sure VMD wants to be sick even more at the, like... just-

    4. CW

      He's being sick.

    5. YU

'Cause the cost per second of filming-

    6. CW

      Yeah.

    7. YU

... with those levels of cameras-

    8. CW

      Oh, God.

    9. YU

... and I imagine the ha- like, the, the hardware, and then I'm... also, like, you, you're gonna get a swordfish that comes and, like, breaks one of the lenses and every-

    10. CW

      Mm-hmm.

    11. YU

... everyone is like (groans) .

    12. CW

      Yeah.

    13. YU

      And, like-

    14. JO

      Yeah, well, I think-

    15. YU

... the shots that they get, you think, "How did they get that from four angles in such high def?"

    16. CW

      Yeah.

    17. YU

Like, how long were they filming for?

    18. JO

      This close.

    19. YU

      Yeah.

    20. JO

O- also, the... I imagine there's a... there must be this... when something's happening and you're focusing on getting it, you're thinking, like, "Oh, I hope-"

    21. CW

      If I fuck this.

    22. JO

"... I'm recording. I hope I'm recording," or, like, "Oh, no, I'm running outta battery," right? Something like that. You can imagine the... it just must be-

    23. YU

      Disgusting.

    24. JO

Why you just can't think about it.

    25. CW

If you trip over D- David Attenborough's foot, like, while you're tracking, so you're panning along-

    26. YU

      (laughs) Because then he's there.

    27. CW

The dolphins... after, after 13 days of watching, the dolphins have finally arrived, and as you're going along you, like, trip over David Attenborough-He's having a banan- he's having a banana. He's having a sit-down.

    28. JO

      (laughs)

    29. YU

He's s- standing there in the arctic with-

    30. CW

Here we see a dolphin. (laughs)
